Your Role:

This position provides facilities support of Global Relay's mission critical data center facilities, server environments and related infrastructure. This includes specification, installation, maintenance and testing of mechanical equipment, electrical equipment, server and storage systems within established standards, as well as development and maintenance of data center support systems such as automated system provisioning, asset tracking, space planning, cable management, equipment monitoring and maintenance. The primary focus of this position will be around facilities support, including electrical, HVAC, and building maintenance and repairs. Activities require timely troubleshooting of hardware including servers, mechanical systems, electrical systems and use of monitoring application software and operating systems to monitor, diagnose and resolve unique, non-recurring problems. These responsibilities require independent and team-based analyses, initiative and good judgment, communication and problem solving while working with little supervision. This role will be primarily facilities related.

Your Job:

  • Ensure facility is maintained to highest standards possible to ensure 100% uptime is achieved.
  • HVAC systems maintenance, filter replacements, motor swaps, cleaning and inspections
  • Daily, weekly and monthly inspections of facility, logging of results, and planning of repairs and maintenance.
  • Electrical system inspections, testing and documenting.
  • Receiving, unpacking, assembling, racking and cabling of servers, storage systems and related components.
  • Ability to lift and move large and awkward equipment safely.
  • Light fabrication, metalwork and construction as part of facility expansion and changes.
  • Building maintenance including; pressure washing, painting, basic repairs of doors and hardware.
  • Assist operations staff with the installation, configuration and ongoing usability of servers, storage systems, peripheral equipment and software
  • Maintain a well-organized list of inventory of all equipment and parts.
  • Perform rotating shift coverage to meet all support needs as needed.
  • Willing to do shift work, including night shifts and emergency coverage as needed.
  • Liaise with contractors to ensure system availability and highest standards of work are upheld.
  • Assist in ongoing facilities improvements.
  • Assist in 3rd party technical audits as needed
  • Management of storage spaces and hardware and equipment storage.
  • Waste Management of packing materials and refuse produced as part of facility operations.
  • Destruction of decommissioned IT equipment prior to disposal.
  • Basic janitorial tasks as required, loading recycling bins, wiping down of surfaces, etc.

About You:

The successful candidate will have a High School diploma or higher education. Experience in supporting facilities and data center needs within a mission critical environment, or have an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that is relevant to the role.

Essential qualifications include:

  • Familiarity with mechanical equipment systems (CRAC, CRAH, evaporative cooling) required.
  • Knowledge of electrical power distribution systems and how they are used in a data center.
  • Metalworking, Fabrication and construction skills to conduct repairs and installations of equipment.
  • Experience with complex building and mechanical system controls.
  • Excellent judgement skills in making critical decisions.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in both verbal and written English
  • Strong organization skill and initiatives
  • Strong documentation skills.
  • Comfortable working under pressure in a fast-paced environment
  • Computer skills in Word, Excel, Outlook.
  • Basic CADCAM skills an asset.
  • Resourcefulness in problem solving abilities
  • Excellent cable management skills required. Pictures of previous cabling jobs would be an asset.
  • Experience working in a mission critical data center facility an asset
  • Demonstrated ability to work both collaboratively in a team environment as well as independently in an effective and organized manner in a complex and challenging environment
  • Previous experience working in an environment with formally structured change management process would be considered an asset
  • Ability to work in a team environment as well as independently as needed
  • Ability to learn on the fly and take on additional roles and responsibilities
  • Proper use of PPE as needed for the various duties being preformed.

Working conditions:

Working conditions entail working in the following environments:

  • Extended periods of work in Data Center spaces, which can be noisy and have temperature extremes (10*c to 40*c)
  • Working outside on building repairs and maintenance (pressure washing, painting)
  • Working at a desk to complete documentation
  • Extended periods of standing or working on one's feet

Physical requirements:

This position requires the following abilities:

  • Lift and carry 50Lbs, and has prolonged periods of standing
  • Climb ladders and work from them
  • Work with power tools such as drills, saws, pressure washers
  • Work with hand tools such wrenches, sockets, screwdrivers, pliers

Global Relay advertises the pay range for this role in compliance with British Columbia's pay transparency laws. Individual pay rates are determined by evaluating factors such as expertise, skills, education, and professional background.

Queue Management / Reporting

  • Reviews work orders in the queue and handles skilled requests which require deep understanding of standard operating procedures and adherence to commitment times

  • Maintains detailed written records of all work activity

  • Ensures any necessary reporting is complete and accurate; executes ad-hoc reporting requests

  • Creates Purchase Orders (PO's) and Purchase requests (PR's)

  • Assigns locks and keys for both Equinix and customer keys, where applicable

  • Supports creating reports to customers (e.g. power or access)

  • Updates local asset databases and other systems

Installations

  • Handles requests requiring skilled rack and stack support of customer equipment

  • Able to read skilled installation spreadsheet plans and supports implementing installations accordingly

  • Supports the building and installation of difficult and challenging installs; which may include: intra-cage fiber tray, ladder rack, customer equipment and cabinets; overhead cable trays, cage mesh, cabinets, and cable management/support systems; grounds cabinets and two-post racks; performs tape changes and back-up updates

  • Recognizes and raises advanced capacity concerns for infrastructure expansions needs and cabling

  • Performs quality checks on both cross-connects and on-site support tickets, and suggests improvements

Cross-Connect

  • Supports challenging datacenter cross-connect work requiring deep understanding of operating procedures for installs, terminations, modifications, and testing

  • Installs and tests challenging cross-connect circuits, which may include: switched, multiplexed, etc.

Testing / Troubleshooting

  • Supports skilled requests on standard layer 1, 2 and 3 cross connect certification testing

  • Supports the troubleshooting of skilled circuits (i.e., switched, multiplexed, etc.)

  • Supports advanced testing and troubleshooting

Stakeholder Partnership

  • Monitors stock levels and proactively addresses needs for reordering of materials in partnership with proper teams

  • Provides escalation support for work order expedites

  • Partners with internal stakeholders on cross functional work

Customer Management

  • Supports customer satisfaction through timely and precise order execution and quality assurance checks

The targeted pay range for this position in the following location is / locations are:

Canada : 67,200 - 100,800 CAD / Annual

+ Responsible for the overall development and implementation of standardized Risk Management activities.
+ Responsible for putting a roadmap for the unit's business planning and execution
+ Leading reviews of program/project issues, and developing risk mitigation strategies and claims avoidance policy, strategy, and objectives.

+ Developing and undertaking advanced Quantitative Risk Analysis including Cost, Schedule and integrated Cost and Schedule analyses, to enable robust forecasting and tracking of risk exposure.
+ Assist in the execution and maintenance of Construction risk management service framework, including data use case execution that reflect project/program direction and opportunities
+ Conduct constructability reviews, schedule critical reviews, and scrutinize cost estimates, understanding areas of uncertainty
+ Facilitation of workshops in the client's environment, using advanced methods for risk, value and lessons learnt processes.
+ Assist in the development of ad hoc Construction risk communiques supporting decision points in the project.
+ Review project document, analyze project data and develop Construction Risk Registers.

+ Experience in quantitative/qualitative cost/schedule risk assessments within Construction Management, Civil Engineering, and Program and Project Management.
+ Extensive experience in the application of Quantitative Risk Analysis (QRA) techniques and tools, for example: @Risk and Primavera Risk Analysis (previously Pertmaster), including the analysis of complex logic-linked cost-loaded schedules.
+ Familiarity with Monte Carlo simulation and any experience with applicable software, such as P6 Risk Analyzer, or Crystal Ball an asset.

**Qualifications**
**Required/minimum qualifications**

**Required/minimum qualifications**
+ High school diploma, GED, or equivalent and basic knowledge of computer hardware and components AND 1+ year(s) experience supporting IT equipment or related technology
+ OR equivalent experience.
+ Ability to work 12-hour shifts, including shift assignments during non-standard business hours that may include evening, nighttime, weekends and/or holidays.
+ As indicated, in the job description, this role has a travel requirement of up to 25% which means you may be required to travel, from time to time, as part of this role.
+ Microsoft is committed to upholding the French language's status and ensuring its use in the workplace where applicable. However, for this specific role, proficiency in English is a bona fide occupational requirement due to technical and specialized tasks requiring the use of English to meet customer needs while working in an integrated fashion with colleagues around the world. **Other Requirements:**
This role requires the ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
+ Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
+ Reliability Status screening: This position requires that the successful candidate obtain and maintain a Reliability Status security screening with the Government of Canada. Microsoft will work with individuals on a case-by-case basis to determine if the requisite screening can be obtained within required timelines.
**Additional or preferred qualifications**

+ Applicable certifications: CompTIA (A+, Server+, Network+), Basic Structure Cabling (BSC).
Data Center Technicians ATR-C - The typical base pay range for this role across Canada is CAD $59,000 - CAD $94,300 per year.
