Mogo is seeking an Analytics Engineer who thrives at the intersection of business understanding and technical execution. In this dual-focus role, you will work closely with stakeholders across the finance business to define and build semantic models in Snowflake, while also contributing to upcoming data migration initiatives that involve rebuilding and modernizing our core Python-based ETL pipelines.
This position is a 50/50 blend of business-facing semantic modeling and production-grade data engineering, offering a unique opportunity to drive both insight accessibility and data infrastructure modernization. You will become the subject matter expert (SME) for Mogo’s core consumer finance products and help shape the next generation of AI-powered analytics at Mogo.
Base salary for this role: $80,000 - $100,000 CAD
What You’ll Do & Key Responsibilities:
1. Business-Facing Semantic Modeling (50%)
- Design and maintain semantic data models in Snowflake to support our products, powering self-service analytics via Cortex Analyst.
- Partner with Finance, Product, and Risk teams to define KPIs, translate business logic into reusable data models, and ensure consistent reporting.
- Collaborate on the development of an AI-powered chatbot using Streamlit (Python) that answers natural language questions based on semantic models.
- Act as the SME for Mogo’s core consumer finance products, ensuring models are well-aligned with business workflows and financial reporting needs.
- Support and lead aspects of data migration initiatives by analyzing, redesigning, and implementing production-grade Python ETL pipelines.
- Ensure new data pipelines are reliable, scalable, and observable, with appropriate documentation and governance.
- Work closely with other teams to integrate ETL pipelines into the broader production environment.
- Embody and model Mogo’s high-performance attributes: ownership, collaboration, innovation, speed, and impact.
- Share knowledge and best practices across teams to foster data-driven decision-making.
- 4–7 years experience in a data engineering, analytics engineering, or hybrid data role.
- Strong proficiency in Python for building, testing, and maintaining ETL workflows.
- Experience building or maintaining semantic data models in Snowflake or similar platforms.
- Strong understanding of SQL, data modeling, and dimensional modeling practices.
- Ability to work closely with stakeholders to capture requirements and translate them into robust data structures.
- Experience working with AI powered analytics tools or interfaces (e.g., Cortex Analyst, conversational analytics).
- Familiarity with best practices in production-grade ETL deployment: testing, monitoring, observability.
- Experience with data orchestration tools (e.g., Talend, Airflow).
- Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Looker)
- Familiarity with financial services, particularly lending, credit risk, or loan servicing.
- Experience contributing to data platform modernization or migration initiatives.
- Lending business teams rely on your semantic models for fast, self-serve answers to critical questions.
- You have redesigned and deployed reliable Python ETLs that support Mogo’s modern data infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities
Data Acquisition & Management
- Stakeholder Coordination: Liaise with internal teams to define data collection requirements and priorities, maintaining clear documentation on collection needs.
- Data Collection: Perform on-site data recording using our systems and directly obtain datasets from key stakeholders or customers.
- Data Storage & Archiving: Manage and organize large datasets across various storage solutions, including Google Cloud (GCloud) and local Network Attached Storage (NAS), ensuring data is secure, accessible, and up-to-date.
Data Processing & Validation
- Lidar Pre-processing: Conduct initial alignment and pre-validation of raw Lidar point cloud data to ensure its quality and usability.
- Data Validation & Quality Assurance: Design, Develop and Perform rigorous validation processes on labeled data received from vendors to confirm it meets our standards before being integrated into training or validation sets.
- Dataset Management: Handle the strategic splitting of datasets for training and validation purposes. Identify and document errors or inconsistencies in current datasets and coordinate with labeling teams for corrections.
- Validation & Regression Framework: Add new datasets into our validation framework, which includes creating precise Areas of Interest (AOIs) and generating new baseline performance metrics.
Labeling & Process Improvement
- Labeling Coordination: Manage the end-to-end labeling process by sending data to our labeling partners, tracking their progress, and serving as the primary technical point of contact.
- Documentation: Own and update all labeling documentation, including defining new classes and clarifying labeling instructions to ensure data consistency.
- Metrics & Reporting: Continuously improve the metrics and reports used for our validation, performance and regression testing, adding new parameters as needed to enhance our evaluation framework.
- Automation & Efficiency: Run, maintain, and improve our pre-labeling pipeline to increase the efficiency of our data operations.
- Tool & Industry Research: Conduct industry research to identify and evaluate new tools and technologies that can make our labeling and data management processes more efficient.
Qualifications & Skills
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
