-Assigns, delegates, and evaluates the activities of the nursing department,

Qualifications:

The qualifications needed to join our family are as follows:

-Current registration and in good standing as a Registered Nurse or Registered Practical Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario,
-Current CPR & First Aid Certificate,
-Demonstrated experience with medication administration (if medications provided),
-Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office,
-3 – 5 years of leadership roles in the senior housing industry,
-Knowledge and understanding of the Retirement Homes Act and other applicable legislation,
-Demonstrated understanding of/empathy for the needs of seniors,
-Demonstrated experience in managing a budget,
-Effective communication and leadership skills,

ABOUT WILLIAMS LAKE FIRST NATION (WLFN)


The Williams Lake First Nation (WLFN), or the Texelcemc (people of WLFN) have belonged to the Secwepemc (or Shuswap) Nation for over 6500 years. Today, the WLFN community includes a growing population of over 800 registered members who live on reserve in Sugar Cane, in nearby Williams Lake, BC, and across the globe.

POSITION

The Elders Health and Wellness Liaison (Navigator) will be responsible for providing in-home support, social care, and wellness-focused services to Elders living in community. The Elders Wellness Liaison (Navigator) will work in collaboration with Elders, families, healthcare professionals (including dieticians, physiotherapists, mental health professionals), and community partners to ensure holistic care and quality of life for Elders living at home. The Elders Health and Wellness Navigator will report to the Interim Director of Health and Wellness.


Employment Type

Full-Time term for 9 months (30-35 hours per week) with the possibility of extension. Start October 1st, 2025 - June 30th, 2026.

Probation Period

3 months from the date of hire.

Education Required

  • Bachelors degree: Health Sciences, Human Kinetics, or related field.

Experience Required

  • Previous experience working with Indigenous Community/Organization.
  • Experience providing wellness support services.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Knowledge of wellness strategies, assessment processes, rehabilitation supports.
  • Conflict resolution and crisis intervention skills.


Overtime Status

Non-exempt.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Providing in-home assistance to Elders living in community, including light housekeeping, laundry, meal preparation, and errands.
  2. Implement dietician and healthcare plans to support nutrition and chronic disease management.
  3. Offer social support and culturally safe companionship to reduce isolation and enhance well-being.
  4. Conduct or assist with basic mobility and safety assessments, support fall prevention strategies.
  5. Work collaboratively with health professionals and caregivers to monitor and report changes in Elders health or behavior.
  6. Advocate for culturally appropriate and trauma-informed care for Indigenous clients.
  7. Document visits, observations, and progress in accordance with organizational policies.
  1. Maintain strict confidentiality and respect for Elders privacy and autonomy.
  2. Maintain open communications with the WLFN team.
  3. Provide support to Health and Wellness Department team members for wellness initiatives, community-based events, community programming, and member support as needed.
  4. Supports the mission, vision, and values of Williams Lake First Nation.
  5. Contributes to the WLFNs ongoing success by accomplishing other duties as required or assigned.

The Adjunct Faculty Member in Health & Wellness is a pivotal contributor to our dynamic department, operating under the supervision of the Program Director. This role is centered on academic responsibilities, which encompass crafting course syllabi, delivering approved curricula on campus, and ensuring the seamless integration of theory, research, and practice grounded in best practices within one or more of the concentrations, including Health and Wellness, Human Resources, and Gender and Sexuality. Their dedication to enhancing course content and fostering a rich learning environment is essential, along with serving on thesis committees and acting as a faculty reader for capstone projects. With a focus on promoting social justice and effectively mentoring graduate students, the Adjunct Faculty Member is vital in fulfilling our mission of preparing socially responsible practitioners in areas of Health and Wellness.

Education/Experience:

  • An earned terminal doctoral degree Psychology from an accredited university or a related discipline is preferred.
  • At least one to two (1-2) years’ experience in university/college level teaching preferred.
  • Experience in course designing, developing, and implementing training materials
  • Have a strong command of presentation software(s) and technology

Certifications/Licenses:

  • Registration with appropriate regulatory body or association based on the discipline/expertise (e.g., CPHR, SHRM, Canadian Psychological Association, etc.)
