The Williams Lake First Nation (WLFN), or the Texelcemc (people of WLFN) have belonged to the Secwepemc (or Shuswap) Nation for over 6500 years. Today, the WLFN community includes a growing population of over 800 registered members who live on reserve in Sugar Cane, in nearby Williams Lake, BC, and across the globe.

POSITION
The Elders Health and Wellness Liaison (Navigator) will be responsible for providing in-home support, social care, and wellness-focused services to Elders living in community. The Elders Wellness Liaison (Navigator) will work in collaboration with Elders, families, healthcare professionals (including dieticians, physiotherapists, mental health professionals), and community partners to ensure holistic care and quality of life for Elders living at home. The Elders Health and Wellness Navigator will report to the Interim Director of Health and Wellness.

The purposes of this position are:
- The Manager of Health Promotion is responsible for leading and managing staff who coordinate health promotion programs and initiatives within the First Nation community. They will collaborate to develop, implement, and evaluate strategies that promote health, wellness, and community well-being.
Duties:
The duties and responsibilities of this position are categorized into three main functions:
- Administration:
- Responsible to the Director of Health and Family Services for the effective and efficient administration of health promotion programs.
- Develops with staff, applications for grant and funding programs.
- Monitors and reports to Director of Health on approved budgets for Health Promotion
- Approves accounts payable, prepares purchase orders, prepares payroll documents for Health Promotion staff and develops and maintains documentation for respective funding agencies and submits same to the Finance Manager and Administrative Services for processing.
- Maintains, with staff, inventories of supplies, equipment and materials at an adequate level; replaces when required within the First Nation’s purchasing policy.
- Manages and directs the employees of the Health Promotion programs consistent with the policies and administrative processes of the Curve Lake First Nation.
- Evaluates employee performance; recommends the employment, promotion, disciplining and termination of related staff.
- Monitors government policies and legislation and recommends policy positions on issues of import to the Curve Lake First Nation.
- Researches and prepares statistical, financial, policy, and other reports as required by the Director of Health and Family Services
- Ensures adherence to Occupational Health and Safety procedures.
- Program Development and Implementation:
- Oversee development and implement comprehensive health promotion programs and initiatives that align with the First Nation's goals and priorities.
- Conduct needs assessments, research, and data analysis to identify community health needs and develop evidence-based strategies.
- Lead staff in their collaboration with community members, leaders, and organization to design culturally appropriate health promotion interventions.
- Ensure the integration of traditional knowledge and practices into health promotion activities.
- Community Engagement and Collaboration:
- Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with community members, elders, health professionals, and external organizations with staff.
- Facilitate community consultations and engagement processes to gather input and ensure programs meet community needs.

- Strong understanding of social determinants of health and their impact on First Nation communities.
- Knowledge of culturally sensitive and relevant health promotion materials and resources.

- Provide direct and indirect cultural and therapeutic support to children, adolescents and their families.
- Support Mental Health Therapists with assessments and case management as needed.
- Participate in case management and clinical care meetings, and the Indigenous Services Advisory Council.
- Develop collaborative relationships with community service providers to support a continuum of care.
- Provide professional development training to partner First Nation and Métis school staff and community service providers.
- Complete relevant electronic medical record documentation.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in social work, child and youth care, education, psychology or related field.
- Minimum of two years of practical experience in children’s mental health care.
- Experience working with Indigenous communities and being guided by Elders through teachings.
- Lived experience with Indigenous ceremony, practice, healing, cultures and spirituality.
- Proficient knowledge of Indigenous historical accounts, systemic barriers, intergenerational trauma and the impacts of colonization.
- Knowledge and proficiency in an Indigenous language is an asset.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license and access to a vehicle.

Position Summary
Seabird Island is committed to advancing holistic wellness and culturally centered healthcare. We are seeking a Traditional Wellness Specialist to join our team and support Seabird Islands Clinical Substance Use Programs, working collaboratively to enhance the holistic health, wellness, and recovery of community members struggling with substance use and addictions.
Under the direction of the Acting Department Manager of Community and Family Wellness, the Traditional Wellness Specialist ensures that service delivery is centered in First Nations worldviews, emphasizing holistic health and cultural approaches to healing from addictions. In collaboration with clinical team members, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and community partners, this role will develop and implement recovery focused wellness programs, facilitate traditional healing activities, and provide direct support to individuals, families, and the broader community to promote cultural continuity within substance use treatment services. The Specialist will also engage in outreach, education, crisis support, and partnership development to strengthen Seabirds overall approach to healing from addiction.
This is a two-year Term position with the possibility of extension.
What you'll do
The Traditional Wellness Specialist will work in collaboration with the Senior Clinical Substance UseProgram Lead and other program staff, including those from Fraser Health, to ensure culturallyappropriate, holistic, and trauma-informed support is embedded within Seabird Islands ClinicalSubstance Use Programs. All responsibilities will be carried out as part of a collaborative,interdisciplinary team approach, ensuring that cultural wellness and traditional healing practicescomplement clinical and therapeutic supports.
Addictions Program Development and Management:
- Design, develop, implement, and facilitate culturally based wellness and healing initiatives andland-based healing activities that promote connection to culture, identity, and community.
- Ensure all programs and services integrate First Nations traditions, values, and traditional healingpractices.
- In collaboration with clinical team members, develop individualized wellness and recovery plansfor community members and clients.
- Provide cultural mentorship and guidance to individuals preparing for or transitioning out oftreatment.
- Collaboratively support individuals in navigating treatment programs, and post-treatmentreintegration while incorporating cultural practices.
- Provide cultural supports to individuals and families in crisis due to substance use and relatedissues.
Community Engagement and Cultural Education:
- Facilitate traditional wellness activities, including healing circles, traditional plant walks,smudging, and cedar brushing, ensuring that clients in recovery have access to cultural practicesin a safe, respectful, and inclusive manner.
- Lead workshops and education sessions on traditional medicines, holistic wellness and recoverystrategies, and land-based healing practices.
- Provide cultural training, education, and guidance to staff, families, and community members toensure they understand traditional healing approaches in addiction recovery.
- Engage and coordinate with Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and community members in programdevelopment and service delivery, ensuring a continued presence of traditional healing inprogram settings.
Health and Wellness Support:
- Engage clients in a trauma-informed, person-centered approach to support emotional, social,physical, and mental health growth and stability in their recovery journey.
- Coordinate traditional-based healing activities to aid in emotional, social, physical, and mentalhealth stabilization.
- Assist individuals in developing coping and personal wellness strategies rooted in culturalteachings and traditional knowledge, working alongside clinical teams to ensure a balancedapproach.
- Provide traditional knowledge, ceremonies, and cultural teachings to strengthen resilience andpromote long-term wellness.
- Collaborate with harm reduction, mental health, treatment, primary care, housing, andemployment services to provide wrap-around support.
- Participate in multidisciplinary meetings and care planning to advocate for and integratetraditional wellness approaches within treatment services.
Collaboration and Partnership Building
- Establish and strengthen relationships with cultural practitioners, Elders, Knowledge Keepers,community champions, and First Nations-led healing networks to enhance traditional wellnessopportunities.
- Support the Senior Program Lead in partnership-building efforts with local and regional serviceproviders such as First Nations Health Authority, Fraser Health, and community-basedorganizations.
- Advocate for culturally safe and responsive addiction services within healthcare and socialservice networks.
- Work closely with management to ensure a positive and effective experience for clients andfamilies.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Complete all charting and documentation clearly, concisely, and factually.
- Prepare reports on program effectiveness and community impact.
- Maintain accurate records of client interactions, program activities, and community engagementefforts.
- Participate in regular team meetings to discuss client progress, service delivery improvements,and collaboration strategies.
- Contribute to funding proposals and program development reports, ensuring culturalprogramming remains supported and resourced.

What you bring
Qualifications
- Extensive knowledge of First Nations traditional wellness practices, holistic health, and culturalprotocols.
- Bachelor's degree in Health Sciences, Social Work, or a related field with a focus on First Nations health and wellness.
- Experience in program development, management, and evaluation.
- 2+ years of relevant experience working within First Nations communities, focusing on holisticwellness.
- Excellent communication, relationship-building skills and ability to work collaboratively with a diverseteam and community members.
Preferred:
