Reporting to the Production Manager, the Shipping and Receiving Supervisor provides leadership and direction through strong communication and teamwork for the activities of the shipping and receiving team to safely achieve shipping schedules and goals. This is a full-time permanent position located in Brampton, Ontario. The language of operation for this role is English and Spanish.

Duties for this position include the following:

  • Ensure the department is run in a safe, professional manner. Ensure safety equipment and PPE is inspected daily and used/worn as required.
  • Supervise and motivate the shipping and receiving dock staff to promote a productive and cooperative work environment.
  • Work effectively with Supervisors and Managers to coordinate shipping schedules for manufacturing and properly plan for mixed product loads. Work with them to resolve questions regarding shipping schedules or product unavailable for shipment as scheduled.
  • Communicate with Customer Service frequently to ensure that they are aware of scheduled shipments and any shipping issues which may arise.
  • Administer reconsignment of freight, refusals, problems with delivery, returned merchandise, etc. as necessary.
  • Ensure that department personnel are aware of the Standard Operating Procedures and work instructions applying to their job, and that they are performing all functions in compliance with these procedures.
  • Administer customer requests for special services and act as liaison with Credit to process the appropriate debits.
  • Schedule all shipments, monitor shipping schedule, ensure that appropriate product is available, and staged for shipment as scheduled. Group shipments as appropriate. Call carriers to schedule trucks/call customers to schedule pick-ups. Prepare Bills.
  • Receiving: Ensure all incoming goods are unloaded properly, material is checked, counts are verified, and all paperwork associated with incoming freight is processed correctly. Unload trucks and process paperwork related to receiving as necessary.
  • Store raw material inventory efficiently.
  • Maintain accuracy of inventory through cycle counts and the timely reporting of all inventory transactions.
  • Actively participate in annual physical inventory.
  • Maintain dock and equipment in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Actively participate in "5S" procedures and all Continuous Improvement efforts. Document daily task performed on "5S" task board. Actively participate in Kaizen events and ensure that continuous improvement efforts are carried out effectively.
  • Perform any and all other duties as assigned by manager.

This position requires the following Skills and abilities:

  • Bachelor's degree in Logistics, materials, and supply chain management
  • Certified Supply Chain Specialist from APICS / ASCM
  • At least 5 years of experience leading a shipping and receiving team in a lead or supervisory position.
  • Good organizational skills, detail oriented, and with the ability to interact positively with others, both within and outside the organization in a very hectic environment.
  • Knowledgeable of math, with the ability to add and subtract whole numbers.
  • Knowledge of proper methods to safely load and unload materials on trucks to minimize product damage.
  • Knowledge of carriers serving the area.
  • Knowledge of inventory control concepts and procedures.
  • Knowledge of SAP.
  • Ability to communicate with carriers and customers effectively.
  • Ability to ensure that inventory is kept undamaged and inventory counts are accurate.
  • Ability to use a RF Scanner.

Management of Distribution Shifts

  • Manage the day-to-day activities on the distribution shift.

  • Responsible for ensuring all associates are aware of operating / safety procedures.
  • Support the quality control function in distribution.
Health and Safety
  • Maintain the safety of the department to ensure the team works in a “safety culture” environment.
  • Conduct monthly safety crew meeting.
Housekeeping
  • Maintain work area to exceed expected levels of cleanliness and orderliness and implement 5 S culture.
Other Duties
  • Other duties as described by your manager.
Experience & Education:
  • 2-5 years of leadership experience - supervisory or lead hand.
  • Ability to create, deliver and monitor personal and subordinate’s developmental plans.
  • 2-5 years Distribution/Shipping & Receiving experience.

Position Overview


A well-established national distribution company is seeking a hands-on, driven Distribution Centre Supervisor to oversee second-shift operations. The ideal candidate is a proactive leader who thrives in fast-paced environments and is motivated by operational excellence, continuous improvement, and team development.

This role plays a key part in ensuring the efficiency and accuracy of daily warehouse functions — with a future focus on owning and leading truck routing and fleet scheduling responsibilities. Strong Excel skills and analytical thinking are essential.


Key Responsibilities


Operational Oversight – Inbound & Outbound

  • Supervise receiving, picking, packing, shipping, and routing processes to ensure timely and accurate fulfillment.
  • Proactively manage workflow and resolve operational bottlenecks.
  • Maintain inventory accuracy through proper receiving, put-away, and replenishment.
  • Oversee return processing (RMAs).
  • Ensure accurate and efficient truck loading during the second shift.

Team Leadership & Performance Management

Process Improvement & Analytics

  • Support implementation and maintenance of SOPs and best practices.

Safety & Compliance

  • Enforce safety protocols and regulatory compliance.
  • Conduct safety inspections and promote a “safety-first” culture.

Cross-Functional Collaboration & Customer Support

  • Liaise with internal teams (customer service, procurement, transportation).
  • Ensure smooth communication and shift handoffs.

Qualifications


  • 2+ years of supervisory or team leadership experience in distribution or warehouse operations.
  • Strong leadership and decision-making abilities in high-volume logistics environments.
  • Proven track record in managing performance constructively and effectively.
  • Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, dashboards).
  • Experience in routing, fleet scheduling, or dispatching is a strong asset.
  • Comfortable using WMS, RF scanners, forklifts, pallet jacks, reach trucks, and order pickers.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with emotional intelligence and conflict resolution abilities.
  • Forklift certification and ability to lift up to 50 lbs as required.

  • Safety, availability, and reliability of the Power Distribution System (PDS), including the power substation equipment, Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) equipment, power supply cabling, 'Stinger' system, and 'Blue Light Stations' (BLS).
  • Organizing and controlling the provision of maintenance vehicles, access to track level, materials, tools, equipment, training, manuals, and procedures for the PDS maintenance team.
  • Planning, coordinating, and assignment of all maintenance functions using the Maximo MMIS.
  • Direct oversight and auditing of work performed by the PDS technicians.
  • Developing and implementing techniques and procedures to ensure all maintenance functions are conducted safely, reliably, and efficiently.
  • Assessment, classification, and identification of the appropriate mitigation actions for system and component failures and emergency incident response within established guidelines.

Your role:

  • Understanding of fulfillment/distribution center/warehouse processes and flow

  • Demonstrated team-building skills, ability to manage change well and remain positive to changes

  • Ease of use with information technologies and proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite

  • Experience working with an integrated warehouse management system (WMS) and Transport management system (TMS)

  • Ability to react and make decisions quickly, team player attitude, and ability to work under pressure

Under the direction of the Operations Manager and based at our Varennes DDC (Direct Distribution Center), the Operations Supervisor is accountable for providing effective day to day management and leadership to their team. They effectively allocate and maintain work responsibilities to provide customer deliveries in a safe, efficient and damage-free environment. The Operations Supervisor will be responsible of a team of Forklift Operators and other Yard employees.

*Shift: Monday to Friday 6:00 am to 2:30 pm

** It is a lumber yard environment where orders are prepared and delivered to contractors, professionals, and construction sites**

Your role:
  • Accountable for providing effective leadership to their team and evaluating productivity; provide mentoring and build relationships with team members;

  • Provide coaching, counseling and training to ensure competence and that work is completed in a safe, efficient and accurate manner.

  • Accountable for establishing the setup of workflows base in delivery orders and scheduling.

  • Assign work to team considering available hours, skills sets and other resources to ensure operational targets are met. Also, works with customer service team member to coordinate loads and carriers.

  • Promote safety in the work environment and ensures all safety rules and procedures are followed. Identifies problem areas and arranges training when necessary.

  • Prepare and actively participates in the annual performance review process.

  • Investigates new logistical innovations that would enhance overall facility performance.

  • Identify and assist in implementing process improvements

  • Attend job-related courses yearly to remain current on industry trends & best practices.

  • Conduct routine meetings with staff and encourages input in order to promote job enrichment and increase overall job satisfaction.
