KBM is currently seeking Field Technicians with proven technical skills to join our Thunder Bay team to support our FRI data collection program in 2025. Field Technicians are responsible for contributing to all aspects of FRI data collection (forest mensuration, coarse woody debris measurement, vegetation and tree species identification and soil classification). While candidates with a strong background in forest resource inventory data collection are preferred, specific job training will be provided for all successful candidates. FRI plot locations are not always truck accessible and often require UTV (or snow machine) operation or long walks (~1km) through the bush to access. Our field crews work rotating shifts during the season when working in remote locations. This schedule is flexible and may change depending on the location of a given project. Outside of the FRI program, KBM Field Services complete a variety of other projects annually, including Forest Carbon Inventories, Aerial Forest Health Mapping, Stereo-photo Forest Interpretation, Environmental Due Diligence Surveys, etc. Successful candidates may be positioned to work on other projects depending on their experience and aptitude. Typically, the field season runs from early May – November, but other projects may start as early as January or February. In-person training for this position will be provided. Job Overview:
We are seeking a skilled Technician to join our team. This role involves the installation, repair, and maintenance of insulated panels, ACM siding, flashing and trim work, cooler and freezer doors, man doors, and door equipment. The Field Technician will also handle job preparation, stock parts, ensure site cleanliness, and complete work orders and time sheets. Additional tasks may be assigned by the Coordinator or Job Lead as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Install IMPs, ACM siding, vapor barriers, flashing and bars, caulking and sealant.
  • Complete work orders, timesheets, and other required documentation accurately and on time.
  • Maintain a clean, operational work truck and ensure it is stocked with necessary parts.
  • Report low stock levels and manage parts reordering.
  • Safely dispose of materials removed from job sites and maintain a clean, safe work environment.
  • Continuously improve product knowledge to provide excellent customer service.
Qualifications:
  • Experience operating aerial work platforms and forklifts.
  • Knowledge of various insulated panel systems, ACM siding and doors.
  • Experience with metal trim installation and the use of spray foam, silicone, and butyl.

A day in the Life:


Confirm with customer that everything is still on schedule


Drive your company truck to the shop and prep all equipment for install


Travel to location (typically 3-6 hours one-way)


Complete pre-job safety paperwork


With a safety mindset, install equipment while keeping workspace tidy (1-6 hours)


Check-in with customer, test equipment, and complete inventory paperwork


Leave location and head home OR book a hotel in the closest town and continue home the next morning.


*We strongly encourage hotel stays to avoid tired, night driving*


Key Responsibilities:


Completion of safety documentation (Pre-Job Assessments, Pre-Job Inspections, etc.) at every single worksite.


Service and installation of rig intercoms, cellular boosters, satellite dishes, portable cellular towers, and other communication equipment.


Diligent management of customer site and staging area equipment and inventory.


Assist in keeping shop supplies and equipment clean; organized and field ready.


Process and completion of service tickets; perform administrative functions relating to invoice records in a timely fashion.


Complete standard service reports, invoicing packages, and other administrative requirements as needed.


Maintain all company property, including field truck, service tools, phone, and equipment, in a clean working, and professional state.


Work with and carry equipment, hand tools, and specialized test equipment.


Out-of-town travel is required. A need to stay in a personnel camp or hotel is required.


Perform other related duties as assigned by management or indicated by responsibilities.

Qualifications:


A willingness to drive to remote drilling and completion operations


Must be comfortable with heights. Climbing drilling rigs (derricks) up to 160 is a necessity


A team-oriented attitude where not only your personal safety is a priority, but also the safety of those working around you


A keen understanding of computer software and hardware with troubleshooting abilities


A self-driven desire to learn about new and emerging technologies


A disposition that is open to coaching and hands-on training with a willingness to share ideas and introduce processes that may improve overall efficiencies


A desire to interact with customers on service calls in a courteous and professional manner


Ability to communicate effectively and clearly by phone, email, and text messaging

What You'll Do

  • Complete and submit Operations reports, Daily Time Tickets, Time Sheets, Vehicle Mileage Logs and any other required and requested documentation in a timely manner.
  • Assist in routine responsibilities including attendance and participation on various levels of staff meetings, physical inventory counts, parts and supplies pick-ups and office/shop/vehicle maintenance/cleaning.
  • Maintain relevant certifications in order to access worksites and workplaces.
  • Travel may be required within North America.

What You Bring:

  • A technical diploma and/or relevant work experience and at minimum of 2 years' experience working in the field.
  • Current H2S Alive, First Aid and Confined Space certifications are desirable, however Questor will provide training for the chosen candidate.
  • HVAC or electrical certification and/or Power Engineering experience would be considered an asset.
  • Ability to work independently while following established Health and Safety and Department of Transportation procedures.
  • Available for customer service call outs including nights and weekends.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills fostering long term customer relations.
  • Move equipment 50 lbs or more.
  • Clean Driver's abstract and valid passport.

**GENERAL DESCRIPTION:**
The Senior Field Technician should possess excellent communication skills including verbal, written, and telephone etiquette. The Senior Field Technician will be responsible for offering support to all associates and systems in the company. The chosen candidate will have above average ability to interpret, analyze, troubleshoot and resolve technical problems. Provide both on site and remote field level IT technical support for our districts across Ontario.
Assist in the planning and execution of technical projects as required. As a Field Technician, the minimum responsibilities are:

Technical level support for IOS and Android devices (Primarily phones)

Technical level support for Microsoft O365 Environment

Technical level support for Windows Operating Systems

Technical level support to install and setup network printers

Strong understanding of Ethernet cabling types, and their termination

Familiarity with Cisco IOS and Meraki Products

Familiarity with Citrix environments

Familiarity with fiber optic cabling

Familiarity with Ubiquiti Products and their Unifi OS.

Familiarity with Audio/Visual equipment such as Video Teleconferencing devices, projectors, and any presentation hardware

**Applicants should have:**

* Experience with Cat and or Komatsu/Deere/Hitachi Equipment
* Ability to work independently
* Journeyman or Red Seal Heavy Equipment Technician - Off Road and/or On Road
* Good Problem Solving Skills
* Valid drivers license – abstract required
* Enjoy working in a team environment
* 2 to 3 years experience work on Heavy Duty Off Road Equipment
* Potential employee’s to need valid Off road equipment ticket from their province, if not in possession of Red seal, or AB Off Road ticket; be willing to challenge AB exam and/or Red seal within 6 months
* Supply own tooling with the exception of larger shop tools

**Job Duties to Include:**

* Running repair on off road heavy trucks, heavy construction equipment, diesel and diesel electric mining machinery
* Repairs on bulldozers, graders, dump truck and excavators
* Will require ability to troubleshoot and inspect equipment to detect faults and malfunctions, determine extent of repair required, adjust equipment and repair or replace defective parts
* Instruct apprentices, keep maintenance reports and documentation

**Pay Structure:**

* Industry competitive wages, and above
* $44hr to $53/hr – Depending on Experience
* Overtime at time and half after 8 hours/day
* When in the field, Hotels/Condo are paid, travel time paid, as well living out allowance
* This is a permanent full time position

**Other Requirements:**

* Pre employment Medical exam
* Some sites we travel to require you pass a drug screen

**Shift Structures**:

* Guaranteed minimum of 44 Hrs/week – Overtime available and paid at time and a half and 8hrs per day/44 hours a week
* Shift Structure - Monday - Friday. Saturday work may be required depending on work load

* Mechanics must be willing to travel to remote job sites, travel time, accommodations, and living out allowance paid for

We are a Heavy Equipment Sales and Service company with five locations and refurbish/ repair late model Cat/Deere/Hitachi heavy construction equipment. We are also a Sany, Rokbak Articulated Trucks dealer, as well as a Cummins, Isuzu, Yanmar, Deutz and Scania Certified repair center. (Dealer training is available for technicians interested). We are a family run business that believes its employees are its greatest asset, we do all we can to ensure our employees are satisfied with their position within our company.

We run a fleet of late model 3 and 5 Ton service trucks – our trucks are top of the line, and we run only 1 technician per truck.

Service trucks are equipped with Crane, welder, charge/boost capabilities, diagnostic laptop and software, 3/4" impact and larger tooling, additional tooling required for OEM diagnostics
