Purpose of Role
Reporting to the Plant Manager, while working closely with other department leaders and managers, the Safety Specialist oversees Condair’s workplace health and safety programs and ensures compliance with all requirements. This individual will be responsible for helping prevent incidents in the workplace, promote a positive safety culture and ensuring that employees adhere to the Condair’s Health and Safety program.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty to a competent level. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
- Carries out workplace inspections and takes appropriate action to ensure compliance.
- Responds to and investigates concerns and complaints from workers and takes appropriate action.
- Investigates accidents and injuries that occur in the workplace and takes appropriate corrective actions.
- Assist injured workers with obtaining medical treatment. Ensure incident paperwork is completed. Report injuries to workers’ compensation insurance as required and follow-up on medical treatment, payments, etc. as required.
- Active member of the Joint Health and Safety Committee. Prepare meeting agendas, co-chair JHSC meetings, resolve/oversee meeting action items in a timely manner.
- Creates, updates, and maintains Condair’s Safe Operating Procedures, Safety Manual, and other policies as needed.
- Recommends changes in procedures and policies.
- Stays current on health and safety legislation both in Canada and USA.
- Participates in the delivery of educational programs and trainings to staff.
- Participates in the creation and monitoring of employee health and safety training courses.
- Assists in the health and safety training of new employees.
- Prepares and maintains various reports, documents, and forms.
- Adhere to the company’s Quality Assurance System and Health and Safety policies.
- Travel to the US and potentially overseas as needed approximately 20% of the time.
- Other duties as assigned by management.
Professional Skills, Qualifications, and Competencies
- Education and Experience: Occupational Health & Safety Certificate (or equivalent accreditation preferable). 4-5 years’ experience in a similar role required (preferably in manufacturing). Experience working with USA companies on OSHA-related requirements an asset.
- Language Skills: Fluent in English (reading, writing, spoken).
- Ability to Reason: Sense of urgency and results oriented. Ability to see and make decisions based on the big picture. Ability to deal with problems involving multiple variables. Ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks daily and demonstratable strategic thinking skills.
- Computer Skills: Experienced using Windows systems. Proficient user of MS Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
- Certificates/Licenses: Joint Health and Safety Committee Certification; First Aid/CPR certification. Valid passport and valid driver's license is required. Proven ability to work in Canada and the ability to travel both domestically and internationally as required.
- Other: Strong understanding of Occupational Health and Safety Act and related legislation. Understanding of USA OSHA and Workers’ Compensation an asset. Strong understanding of enforcement procedures.

# **Job Summary**
**How you will make an impact:**
You will be responsible for inspecting workplaces to ensure compliance with safety and environmental standards are called occupational health and safety (OHS) specialists.
**As a Health and Safety Specialist, you will:**
- Conduct HS Audits and monitor Corrective Action Plan development through regular worksite visits
- Contribute to the ongoing improvement of Compass’ Health and Safety system through program review, development, and implementation
- Deliver training through in person and web-based methods
- Participate in Operations and Health and Safety meetings
- Provide technical advice and guidance to our operations both in person and remotely

Reporting to the Director of HR, the Health & Safety Specialist is responsible for our safety program at BD Diesel. This role is responsible for developing, implementing, and continuously improving workplace health and safety initiatives to ensure compliance with WorkSafeBC regulations and industry best practices. The ideal candidate will be proactive in identifying risks, educating employees, and fostering a strong safety culture across all departments. As a key resource for the organization, this role will work closely with management, employees, and the Joint Health & Safety Committee (JHSC) to drive safety improvements and prevent workplace incidents.
This role is based in our Abbotsford location and this role is a fully onsite role.
Requirements
· Develop, implement, and maintain the company’s health and safety policies and programs to ensure compliance with WorkSafeBC and other applicable regulations.
· Conduct regular safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments to identify hazards and recommend corrective actions.
· Lead incident investigations, root cause analyses, and corrective action implementation to prevent recurrence.
· Develop and deliver safety training programs, including onboarding safety orientations, hansai meetings, and emergency response training.
· Monitor and Chair the Joint Health & Safety Committee (JHSC), ensuring effectiveness and compliance.
· Maintain records related to workplace training, injuries, incidents, safety audits, and compliance reporting.
· Develop, implement, and oversee equipment inspection protocols, ensuring all tools, machinery, and safety equipment are regularly checked, maintained, and compliant with regulatory standards.

· Assist managers and supervisors in implementing best practices for workplace safety.
· Support ergonomic assessments and initiatives to reduce workplace injuries.
· Stay current with regulatory changes and industry best practices, advising leadership on necessary adjustments.
· Provide safety support and consultation for Burnout Brands’ broader operations, including U.S. locations, as needed.

Education and Experience:
· Minimum 3 years of experience in a health and safety role, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial setting.
· Strong knowledge of WorkSafeBC regulations and other relevant occupational health and safety legislation.
· Certification in Occupational Health & Safety (e.g., CRSP, CHSC, or equivalent) is an asset.

We are currently seeking an EHS Specialist for one of our leading clients in the manufacturing industry.
Location:
Greater Toronto Area, ON
Responsibilities:
- Administer Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) programs and environmental initiatives to ensure compliance.
- Conduct thorough audits for ISO 14001, 18000, and IATF 16949 safety standards.
- Chair Joint Health and Safety Committee meetings and oversee investigations.
- Develop and implement effective training programs on safety protocols.
- Review and update policies to align with current legislation and best practices.
- Investigate workplace accidents and prepare comprehensive reports for management and regulatory bodies.
- Interact with local governmental authorities and maintain positive relationships.
- Manage hazardous waste disposal and storage following regulations.
- Conduct industrial hygiene assessments and Personal Protective Equipment evaluations.
- Schedule and support HSE sampling and testing, including air, water, and noise surveys.

- Minimum of 5 years of relevant health and safety experience in a manufacturing setting.

- Strong English communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Demonstrated leadership experience, including leading Joint Health and Safety Committees.
- Familiarity with WSIB claims procedures and ISO 14001 standards.
