Responsibilities (Position Details):
As the Education Director, you participate in the centre's operations, including working with multiple people from centre staff to teachers, to parents, and of course, the students! You will work directly with the Centre Director as a key staff member with the following responsibilities:
- help inform inquiring parents about our Oxford Learning programs
- Organize schedules for students, staff, and teachers
- set up and administer assessments
- establish and oversee student learning programs
- liaise with members of the community (schools, sports teams, and local businesses)
- maintain contact with parents and meeting with them to discuss their child's progress
- ensure that the Oxford Learning philosophy is being maintained throughout the centre
- create a fun and energetic learning environment on a daily basis
- effectively master the Oxford Learning Teaching philosophy as well as coach other teaching members of the team

Under the direction and supervision of the Child Care Supervisor, the Education Assistant is responsible for the delivery of child and parent programs that support early learning and development of children aged 0 12 years old.
The Education Assistant will engage children and families to provide intervention for the improved development of the physical, intellectual, social, spiritual and emotional well-being of the participating children. HEABC has an opening for an Education Lead. Reporting to the Director, Education and Administrative Services, the Lead provides direction in all aspects of the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of education programs and services for HEABC staff and members.

ABOUT THE ROLE
We are seeking a highly dedicated and organized Education Support Assistant who is looking for an enriching experience to be part of the Fort McKay First Nation (FMFN) Education team. The Education Support Assistant supports the Post Secondary Education Coordinator and the Education Administrative team in the delivery and administration of the FMFN post-secondary education program and Education support services, available to Fort McKay First Nation members. Based out of Elsie Fabian school and reporting directly to the Education Director, this is a permanent full-time position, based on seventy-five (75) hours bi-weekly.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Assist in the planning, development and implementation of programs and services for the Education Department.
- Provide administrative assistance and support to the administrative team and Education Director as requested.
- Process all new student application forms and inform them of approval process, policy and guidelines.
- Assist with processing applications, student invoices, documentation and maintain accurate files and records for all PSE student files each semester.
- Ensure students maintain their responsibilities outlined in the post-secondary program policy.
- Update and maintain the PSE student database to ensure accurate records for all PSE students.
- Establish and maintain excellent rapport with students, and refer them to academic support services, as needed.
- Assist with new student orientation and conduct post-secondary student interviews relating to their progress, grades, attendance and if there are any issues concerning students attending post-secondary.
- Provide information and appropriate websites so students may apply for bursaries or scholarships.
- Assist with all reporting, data entry, filing, documentation, meeting minutes and administrative functions for the PSE program.
- Continue education through upgrading and review of current related literature.
- Compile and prepare data, statistics and requirements for monthly, quarterly and annual reports as requested by the Education Director.
- Assist Elsie Fabian school administrative team as required.
- Assist PSE Coordinator with email communication, correspondence and phone calls to track and monitor student progress.
- Assist with the organization and coordination of community education and/or engagement sessions related to education and the post-secondary education program.
- Other duties as assigned.
KEY REQUIREMENTS
- High school Diploma or equivalent
- Diploma in Business Administration, Education, Social Services, Career Counseling or another related field is required
- Minimum of one-year related experience
- Strong computer skills. Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office. (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc)
- Ability to speak either Dene or Cree language an asset
- Experience working in a First Nations community including knowledge of First Nations culture, traditions and values is a definite asset
- A valid Class 5 drivers license and Clean Drivers Abstract
- Criminal Record Check with vulnerable sector is required

This role is crucial in ensuring Thessalon First Nation students with special needs receive strong support and resources to thrive academically and developmentally to pursue post-secondary education. The role enables our children to attain their goals and career aspirations. Integrating Anishinaabe holistic learning approaches for our students align to Thessalon First Nations vision of committing to our students success.
Responsibilities:
- Instructional Leadership : Develop and implement instructional programs tailored to the needs of students with disabilities.
- Staff Supervision : Supervise and support special education teachers and staff, ensuring they are effectively implementing educational plans.
- Data Management : Ensure accurate collection and recording of student data to monitor progress and inform instruction to achieve measurable progress for success.
- Collaboration : Work closely with general education teachers, parents, elders, and other partners in a meaningful way to create a positive and supportive learning environment.
- Compliance : Ensure that all programs and services comply with educational and curriculum provincial standards and policies.
- Professional Development : Provide ongoing training and professional development opportunities for staff.
- Behavior Management : Develop and implement behavior management plans to address the needs of students with behavioral and mental health challenges.

Qualifications:
- Education : Bachelor's or Masters degree in Special Education or a related field.
- Experience : Several years of experience in special education, including teaching and administrative roles.
- Skills : Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills; ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups; knowledge of special education laws and regulations. The candidate must also possess and demonstrate their integration of land-based learning, Indigenous approaches to teachings, access and involvement from Indigenous elders to support student experiential learning.
- Knowledge : Of the Indian Act and expert knowledge of the Residential School and their lasting impact on Anishinaabe people is a must.
- Must possess a Valid Drivers License and reliable transportation .
Accountability
The Special Education Lead is directly accountable to the Thessalon First Nation Interim Education Director.
Salary Pay Band Range:
$75 000.00 - $90 000.00.
