LOCATION: 1040 Brookes Street, North Bay, ON

Under the direction and supervision of the Child Care Supervisor, the Education Assistant is responsible for the delivery of child and parent programs that support early learning and development of children aged 0 12 years old.

The Education Assistant will engage children and families to provide intervention for the improved development of the physical, intellectual, social, spiritual and emotional well-being of the participating children. This includes implementation of the Ministry of Educations How Does Learning Happen? The Education Assistant will aim to engage parents and caregivers while making meaningful connections. This position will be based at the North Bay Indigenous Hub. The Education Assistant will participate in the process of community development for strengthening community wellness that is congruent with the overall Vision, Mission and Values for the North Bay Indigenous Hub.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum two years direct work experience with children and early learning
  • Experience working in a child care and/or EarlyON program setting is an asset
  • Knowledge or passion for learning of Indigenous culture, history and ways of being
  • Knowledge of Child and Family Services Act
  • Knowledge of Indigenous language is an asset
  • Demonstrated experience in time management
  • A recent (within 3 months) Criminal/Police Records Check and Vulnerable Persons Check
  • Proof or willing to obtain certificates of completion for privacy training and occupational health and safety training
  • Current First Aid and CPR with AED
  • A valid Ontario Class G Drivers License

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of Indigenous wellness and priorities
  • Knowledge of community-based childrens programs and services
  • Assist facilitation and coordination skills for groups
  • Experience and/or understanding of the benefits of sensory interventions
  • Assist in program design, development, implementation and evaluation design and measurement which integrates
    western and traditional practice or approaches

  • Desire to thoroughly learn or demonstrated understanding of Indigenous history, culture and ways of being

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supporting the implementation of emergent play-based curriculum and pedagogical recording
  • Supporting and promoting positive relationships between children and their families
  • Support the school readiness program
  • Collaborating with the team to offer activities such as field trips, community cultural events or activity days
  • Active team player and contribute towards NBIH Child Care Centre goals and standards
  • Assist with cleaning and sanitization duties
  • Cooperate with break and lunch coverage and openness to support vacation and sick time coverage when necessary
  • Follow and support NBIH Child Care Centres curriculum
  • Adhere to NBIH reporting guidelines and documentation requirements
  • Communicate regularly with peers, supervisor and families
  • Supporting parents, children, families to connect with multi-disciplinary diagnostic teams, other supports and services
  • Developing linkages with other community-based early childhood related services.

1st Class Collaborative Intervention Support Services (CISS) is a Private ECS Operator funded through Alberta Education, partnering with 1st Class Childcare to provide Early Intervention Support to children with diverse needs within the programs between 2.8 years and 4.8 years of age. 1st Class CISS is seeking Education Assistants to work collaboratively with 1st Class Childcare programs to see all children reach their highest potential, under the guidance of a Certificated Teacher and therapy team. ABOUT THE ROLE
We are seeking a highly dedicated and organized Education Support Assistant who is looking for an enriching experience to be part of the Fort McKay First Nation (FMFN) Education team. The Education Support Assistant supports the Post Secondary Education Coordinator and the Education Administrative team in the delivery and administration of the FMFN post-secondary education program and Education support services, available to Fort McKay First Nation members. Based out of Elsie Fabian school and reporting directly to the Education Director, this is a permanent full-time position, based on seventy-five (75) hours bi-weekly.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist in the planning, development and implementation of programs and services for the Education Department.
  • Provide administrative assistance and support to the administrative team and Education Director as requested.
  • Process all new student application forms and inform them of approval process, policy and guidelines.  
  • Assist with processing applications, student invoices, documentation and maintain accurate files and records for all PSE student files each semester.
  • Ensure students maintain their responsibilities outlined in the post-secondary program policy.  
  • Update and maintain the PSE student database to ensure accurate records for all PSE students.
  • Establish and maintain excellent rapport with students, and refer them to academic support services, as needed.
  • Assist with new student orientation and conduct post-secondary student interviews relating to their progress, grades, attendance and if there are any issues concerning students attending post-secondary.
  • Provide information and appropriate websites so students may apply for bursaries or scholarships.
  • Assist with all reporting, data entry, filing, documentation, meeting minutes and administrative functions for the PSE program.
  • Continue education through upgrading and review of current related literature.
  • Compile and prepare data, statistics and requirements for monthly, quarterly and annual reports as requested by the Education Director.
  • Assist Elsie Fabian school administrative team as required.  
  • Assist PSE Coordinator with email communication, correspondence and phone calls to track and monitor student progress.
  • Assist with the organization and coordination of community education and/or engagement sessions related to education and the post-secondary education program.
  • Other duties as assigned.

KEY REQUIREMENTS
  • High school Diploma or equivalent
  • Diploma in Business Administration, Education, Social Services, Career Counseling or another related field is required
  • Minimum of one-year related experience
  • Strong computer skills. Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office.  (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc)
  • Ability to speak either Dene or Cree language an asset
  • Experience working in a First Nations community including knowledge of First Nations culture, traditions and values is a definite asset
  • A valid Class 5 drivers license and Clean Drivers Abstract
  • Criminal Record Check with vulnerable sector is required

Responsibilities (Position Details):

As the Education Coordinator Assistant, you participate in the centre's operations, including working with multiple people, from centre staff to teachers, parents, and, of course, the students! You will work directly with the Education Coordinator as a key staff member with the following responsibilities:

  • help inform inquiring parents about our Oxford Learning programs
  • organize schedules for students, staff, and teachers
  • set up and administer assessments
  • establish and oversee student learning programs
  • liaise with members of the community (schools, sports teams, and local businesses)
  • maintain contact with parents and meeting with them to discuss their child's progress
  • ensure that the Oxford Learning philosophy is being maintained throughout the centre
  • create a fun and energetic learning environment on a daily basis

  • Script, produce, and edit educational materials highlighting product knowledge, service rituals, and sales techniques.
  • Optimize digital formats using field feedback and analytics to boost engagement and retention.
  • Field Coaching & Retail Support
  • Equip field teams and Beauty Advisors with training toolkits and on-demand learning resources.
  • Conduct market visits to assess training impact, coach on best practices, and gather feedback for continuous improvement.
  • Support onboarding and ongoing development through structured learning paths and reinforcement strategies.


Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with Sales, Marketing, and Creative teams to ensure training aligns with brand strategy, messaging, and campaign goals.
  • Manage the education calendar, including training agendas for onboarding, launches, and seasonal activations.
  • Support education initiatives at events, masterclasses, retailer trainings, and consumer-facing experiences.


Operations & Reporting

  • Oversee inventory and allocation of education tools, training kits, and visual merchandising materials.
  • Track participation, measure training effectiveness through KPIs, and generate post-training reports with key insights and recommendations.
  • Identify skill gaps and propose targeted education solutions to drive retail performance and elevate customer experience.


Innovation & Industry Insight

  • Stay informed on industry trends, retail innovations, and competitor strategies to evolve the learner experience continuously.
  • Champion creativity and new formats that enhance engagement and reflect brand positioning across diverse channels.


Qualification, Experience and skillset

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher with 5+ years of experience in beauty/skincare education, sales training, or field coaching.
  • Experience with premium or luxury beauty retailers; Sephora background is a strong asset.
  • Strong grasp of consumer behavior and adult learning principles; able to tailor education for diverse audiences and formats
  • Engaging presenter and facilitator, capable of motivating teams in both virtual and in-person settings
  • Skilled in creating impactful e-learning content, product storytelling, and branded webinars
  • Data-driven, with the ability to assess training impact and optimize based on KPIs and feedback
  • Experienced in designing training programs that support knowledge retention and in-store performance
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office; familiarity with Canva, Google Suite, or other visual tools is a plus
  • Background in video content creation, including scripting and editing, is a strong advantage
  • Bilingual (English & French) is an asset
  • Team player with cross-functional collaboration experience (Sales, Marketing, Creative)
  • Willing and able to travel as needed, including some weekends, for training, store visits, and events
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle

Purpose:

This role is crucial in ensuring Thessalon First Nation students with special needs receive strong support and resources to thrive academically and developmentally to pursue post-secondary education. The role enables our children to attain their goals and career aspirations. Integrating Anishinaabe holistic learning approaches for our students align to Thessalon First Nations vision of committing to our students success.

Responsibilities:

  1. Instructional Leadership : Develop and implement instructional programs tailored to the needs of students with disabilities.
  2. Staff Supervision : Supervise and support special education teachers and staff, ensuring they are effectively implementing educational plans.
  3. Data Management : Ensure accurate collection and recording of student data to monitor progress and inform instruction to achieve measurable progress for success.
  4. Collaboration : Work closely with general education teachers, parents, elders, and other partners in a meaningful way to create a positive and supportive learning environment.
  5. Compliance : Ensure that all programs and services comply with educational and curriculum provincial standards and policies.
  6. Professional Development : Provide ongoing training and professional development opportunities for staff.
  7. Behavior Management : Develop and implement behavior management plans to address the needs of students with behavioral and mental health challenges.
  8. Resource Coordination : Coordinate resources and services to support students' educational and developmental needs.

Qualifications:

  • Education : Bachelor's or Masters degree in Special Education or a related field.
  • Experience : Several years of experience in special education, including teaching and administrative roles.
  • Skills : Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills; ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups; knowledge of special education laws and regulations. The candidate must also possess and demonstrate their integration of land-based learning, Indigenous approaches to teachings, access and involvement from Indigenous elders to support student experiential learning.
  • Knowledge : Of the Indian Act and expert knowledge of the Residential School and their lasting impact on Anishinaabe people is a must.
  • Must possess a Valid Drivers License and reliable transportation .



Accountability

The Special Education Lead is directly accountable to the Thessalon First Nation Interim Education Director.

Salary Pay Band Range:

$75 000.00 - $90 000.00.

THE POSITION

You will embody the heart of our educational mission through your caring approach and collaboration with the multidisciplinary team, driving the application of a variety of special education methods geared towards providing each young person with the support they need to thrive and succeed, whatever their background and needs.

THE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work in synergy with the teaching team, families and external resources to provide targeted support for students with special needs.
  • Innovate in support methods and design customized learning strategies.
  • Contribute actively, in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team, to the creation, development and implementation of personalized intervention plans.
  • Monitor student progress and encourage an open, stimulating environment conducive to learning.
  • Develop, organize and lead diversified activities to reinforce various student competencies.
  • Provide direct academic support, particularly in basic skills, lessons and homework.
  • Adopt a proactive approach to supporting students in their adaptation and behavioral management, using optimal and adapted communication techniques.
  • Provide information on social issues and refer students and their families to specialized resources, as needed.
  • Manage the supervision of students requiring specific follow-up after sanctions and organize their school reintegration.
  • Ensure the safety and support of students requiring special attention during school transportation, if necessary.
  • Rigorously document observations and interventions, keep student files up to date, and prepare detailed reports.
  • Manage the administration of medication according to medical and school guidelines, and intervene in first aid, if necessary.
  • Guide and train new team members and supervise support staff tasks related to technical operations.
  • Carry out any additional tasks adapted to emerging needs.



  • Hold a college diploma in Special Education Techniques or a diploma/certificate recognized as equivalent.
  • Be fluent in written and oral English. Knowledge of French would be an asset.
  • Have experience with students with behavioral and academic difficulties.
  • Valid first-aid certificate.
