ABOUT THE ROLE
We are seeking a highly dedicated and organized Education Support Assistant who is looking for an enriching experience to be part of the Fort McKay First Nation (FMFN) Education team. The Education Support Assistant supports the Post Secondary Education Coordinator and the Education Administrative team in the delivery and administration of the FMFN post-secondary education program and Education support services, available to Fort McKay First Nation members. Based out of Elsie Fabian school and reporting directly to the Education Director, this is a permanent full-time position, based on seventy-five (75) hours bi-weekly.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist in the planning, development and implementation of programs and services for the Education Department.
  • Provide administrative assistance and support to the administrative team and Education Director as requested.
  • Process all new student application forms and inform them of approval process, policy and guidelines.  
  • Assist with processing applications, student invoices, documentation and maintain accurate files and records for all PSE student files each semester.
  • Ensure students maintain their responsibilities outlined in the post-secondary program policy.  
  • Update and maintain the PSE student database to ensure accurate records for all PSE students.
  • Establish and maintain excellent rapport with students, and refer them to academic support services, as needed.
  • Assist with new student orientation and conduct post-secondary student interviews relating to their progress, grades, attendance and if there are any issues concerning students attending post-secondary.
  • Provide information and appropriate websites so students may apply for bursaries or scholarships.
  • Assist with all reporting, data entry, filing, documentation, meeting minutes and administrative functions for the PSE program.
  • Continue education through upgrading and review of current related literature.
  • Compile and prepare data, statistics and requirements for monthly, quarterly and annual reports as requested by the Education Director.
  • Assist Elsie Fabian school administrative team as required.  
  • Assist PSE Coordinator with email communication, correspondence and phone calls to track and monitor student progress.
  • Assist with the organization and coordination of community education and/or engagement sessions related to education and the post-secondary education program.
  • Other duties as assigned.

KEY REQUIREMENTS
  • High school Diploma or equivalent
  • Diploma in Business Administration, Education, Social Services, Career Counseling or another related field is required
  • Minimum of one-year related experience
  • Strong computer skills. Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office.  (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc)
  • Ability to speak either Dene or Cree language an asset
  • Experience working in a First Nations community including knowledge of First Nations culture, traditions and values is a definite asset
  • A valid Class 5 drivers license and Clean Drivers Abstract
  • Criminal Record Check with vulnerable sector is required

Your Role

Reporting to Senior Manager, Physician Compensation, this role is responsible for developing and maintaining digital learning tools and educational resources for physicians.

DIGITAL LEARNING & WEBSITE TOOLS

  • Develop, update, and manage digital learning tools on the BC Family Doctors website related to physician compensation, such as the Simplified Fee Guide, Simplified LFP Guide, and Billing Question Library
  • Work collaboratively with other staff to create physician compensation-related content for the BC Family Doctors website, newsletters, and other communications vehicles, ensuring that the information is accurate, up to date, and meeting physician needs.
  • Work with physicians and subject matter experts to translate complex billing and compensation information into accessible, engaging learning content.
  • Track and evaluate user engagement with digital tools to inform updates and improvements.
  • Respond to user inquiries related to digital tools and educational content, escalating technical issues as appropriate.
  • Act as a point of contact with website contractors for technical issues and updates related to digital learning & website tools
  • Ensure digital content aligns with organizational standards for accessibility, branding, and quality.

BILLING SUPPORT & EDUCATION

  • Develop understanding of physician payment models, including the LFP Payment Model and fee-for-service
  • Provide billing support to physicians
  • Work with physician billing leads and subject matter experts to respond to billing inquiries and develop billing support resources
  • Track and collate physician billing inquiries and feedback to inform payment model improvements.
  • Contribute to planning and creation of billing education materials, such as toolkits, guides, and other digital learning materials

ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT

  • Provide logistical and administrative support for physician compensation-related activities.
  • Assist with preparing briefing notes, presentations, and other materials
  • Support information and file management for physician compensation-related work
  • Coordinate and attend webinars, conferences and events
  • Respond to general inquiries and provide communications support
  • Provide coverage for staff absences as needed
  • Provide other coordination and administrative support duties as required

What you Bring

  • A minimum of three years relevant experience
  • University degree or equivalent education, training, and experience
  • Tech-savviness with experience in website content management (e.g. WordPress) and/or learning management systems (LMS)
  • Education or experience in digital learning, adult education, or knowledge translation is an asset
  • Strong written communication skills with the ability to translate technical information into plain language
  • Meticulous attention to detail and excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a small team
  • Ability to prioritize and manage a varied workload
  • A positive, enthusiastic attitude; adaptability and resourcefulness
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with a community of physicians and physician organizations
  • Experience working in the healthcare, or social profit field is an asset
  • Residing in the Lower Mainland is required for attendance at meetings, conferences, and events

The Details

This is a one-year, full-time contract position (37.5 hours per week) with the possibility of extension. The role is based in Vancouver, with a salary range of $60,000 - $75,000 per annum, depending on qualifications and experience. We provide 4 weeks paid vacation plus an excellent benefits package. The anticipated start date is November 24, 2025.

We pride ourselves on having flexible work schedules and an engaging, supportive team atmosphere. Ours is a hybrid work environment, mixing remote work with 2-4 days per month in the office. Some evening and weekend work will be required.

Who We Are

The Mikisew Cree First Nation (Mikisew) has lived on the ancestral lands of the Athabasca Delta and Wood Buffalo National Park in northeastern Alberta since time immemorial. The lives of our members are linked to the land and to a close understanding of traditions, history and a natural way of life. Many of our members live in the hamlet of Fort Chipewyan, and our traditional lands range over a large portion of Athabasca oil sands deposits.


Who You Are

Mikisew is currently seeking a dedicated Early Childhood Learning and Development Support Worker based in Fort Chipewyan. The Early Childhood Learning and Development Support Worker will report to the Wellness Manager and primarily be responsible for assisting with the design, development and facilitation of Indigenous-focused, culturally safe early years drop-in parent/caregiver participation program and outreach to support Mikisew Cree First Nations children aged 0-6.

This position is in Fort Chipewyan but a hybrid model of working remoting from Fort McMurray with frequent travel weekly to the community will be considered.


Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Incorporate and coordinate activity-based programming for the different stages of a childs developmental growth including socio-emotional and cognitive development and inclusion for children who require additional support.
  • Assist with the design and facilitation of culturally safe, wholistic early years drop-in and outreach programming.
  • Provide activity coordination to involve Indigenous Elders/Knowledge Keepers to honor the teachings of our ancestors, incorporate traditional storytelling, culture, values, practices, Cree language, foods and child development activities into the program
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with representatives of community-based early childcare educators, health and service providers, community organizations, agencies and at the municipality, provincial and federal level.
  • Assist with development of programs to provide educational opportunities for preschool
  • Prepare and submit annual work plans/budgets and manage program according to funding terms and conditions.
  • Maintain accurate records and monthly program reporting. Assist with program evaluation and quality improvements
  • Prepare and utilize a variety of methods to promote the program in community
  • Research, integrate and share best practices in the early years field
  • Participate in Health Department Team meetings.
  • Other duties as required.



Qualifications

  • Early Childhood Education or acceptable combination of experience and training
  • Must have a valid First Aid and Infant CPR certification (or ability to obtain within 90 days of employment).
  • Must have a valid Food Safe certificate (or ability to obtain within 90 days of employment).
  • Valid provincial class 5 drivers license, and clean drivers abstract required.
  • 1 or more years experience working with families and children aged 0 6.
  • Working knowledge of Early Childhood Development and assessment tools.
  • Direct program delivery experience in the community social service sector with a demonstrated working knowledge of family-centered care, early intervention strategies, child development and community- based programs.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the opportunities, barriers and challenges that impact childrens outcomes.
  • Understanding about child development and the impact of disability and delay on growth and development.
  • Knowledge of Jordans Principle.
  • Understanding and knowledge of Indigenous culture, traditions, and social determinants of health.
  • Knowledge of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canadas Call to Action #12.


Other Requirements

  • Ability to organize time, set priorities and multi-task to meet various timelines.
  • Ability to work in a team environment with children, youth and families, and other professionals.
  • Possess exceptional judgement and always maintain high confidentiality in all interactions.
  • Previous related experience is considered a definite asset.
  • The ability to speak Cree is an asset.
  • Direct experience working with Mikisew Cree First Nation and in Fort Chipewyan is an asset.
  • Willing and able to work a flexible schedule and some overtime.
