OPPORTUNITY:

HEABC has an opening for an Education Lead. Reporting to the Director, Education and Administrative Services, the Lead provides direction in all aspects of the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of education programs and services for HEABC staff and members.

The Education Lead is responsible for:

  • Informing and regularly updating the Education Services strategic plan, in alignment with HEABCs key priorities, objectives, and areas of focus.
  • Working with HEABC staff to identify and prioritize the training and development needs of HEABC staff and members in support of key priorities and objectives.
  • Designing the learning architecture and developing various forms of educational content, including but not limited to eLearning modules, webinars, workshops, articles and documents, online educational resources/toolkits, etc.
  • Coordinating and facilitating education sessions, workshops, or other education events, both in person and virtual.
  • Developing and maintaining a robust process for evaluating the effectiveness of all HEABC education programs and services; maintaining accurate records of education programs and their outcomes and preparing detailed reports for senior leadership on how education programs are achieving their objectives.
  • Providing leadership and guidance to others using effective education techniques for adult learners in the workplace, as well as overseeing the development of training materials for internal and external parties.
  • Ensuring education content reflects and promotes diversity, equity and inclusion and cultural safety principles.

Required Experience & Knowledge:

  • University degree related to adult education or a related field.
  • Minimum of five (5) years recent, related experience in a leadership role, including or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Adult learning expertise: a sound understanding and experience working with adult learning principles.
  • Instructional design: a strong background in curriculum development with experience designing compelling educational experiences.
  • Presentation/Facilitation: experience presenting and/or facilitating adult education programs, sessions, or other education events.
  • Technical proficiency: advanced skillset using eLearning platforms, Learning Management Systems (LMS), and other relevant technology, including but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe PDF, presentation programs and relevant database programs.
  • Project management: planning, organizing, and executing training programs, managing their resources, budget, and timelines.

GENERAL SUMMARY

The Director of Education is responsible for delivering a high quality personal customer experience by ensuring that the ongoing educational needs of Sylvan families are met and that our education programs are delivered by teachers as designed.  To ensure a personal learning experience, the Director monitors student performance, meets regularly with families, and connects with school teachers to help ensure the application of skills learned in the classroom.  The Director also observes and coaches the teaching staff, ensuring robust instructional experiences.  When the Center Director is unavailable or not in the Center, the Director of Education serves as the point-of-contact for customers and manages Center operations.  

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Supports the Centre Director in delivering assessments to students, updating lesson plans, and preparing teaching materials.
  • Teach the Sylvan curriculum in a 3:1 setting to students when necessary. Candidate will interact with and motivate students during instruction, and evaluate and document student progress after instruction.
  • Manages and delivers all conference activities such as preparing conference materials and meeting with parents to keep families enrolled in Sylvan.
  • Ensures that all teachers are trained and certified to deliver Sylvan programs and monitors teachers performance.
  • Motivates and develops staff by providing ongoing learning opportunities.
  • Monitors student progress to ensure goals are achieved and ongoing family needs are met.
  • Conducts parent conferences on a regular and timely basis, with appropriate documentation.
  • Maintains regular contact with the schools via teacher conference either in-person, via e-mail or over the telephone.
  • Communicates with the Centre Director any concerns regarding student progress or instructor performance.
  • May also be required to make school visits, establish and maintain relationships with schools for partnership and marketing purposes.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED

  • Bachelor's Degree in Education or related field from an accredited university
  • Minimum of one or two years of teaching experience preferred; Experience in supervisor role preferred
  • Knowledge of current BC educational curriculum and policy
  • Previous retail and/or sales experience preferred
  • Be comfortable working with computers and have a good working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel. Knowledge of iPads and Zoom an asset.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

  • Proven ability to engage, motivate, and inspire students to learn 
  • Be hard-working, exude empathy and love working with children
  • Strong customer service, interpersonal, and communication skills

Responsibilities (Position Details):

As the Education Coordinator Assistant, you participate in the centre's operations, including working with multiple people, from centre staff to teachers, parents, and, of course, the students! You will work directly with the Education Coordinator as a key staff member with the following responsibilities:

  • help inform inquiring parents about our Oxford Learning programs
  • organize schedules for students, staff, and teachers
  • set up and administer assessments
  • establish and oversee student learning programs
  • liaise with members of the community (schools, sports teams, and local businesses)
  • maintain contact with parents and meeting with them to discuss their child's progress
  • ensure that the Oxford Learning philosophy is being maintained throughout the centre
  • create a fun and energetic learning environment on a daily basis

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Deputy Head of School as a member of the Middle Leadership Team, the Director of Outdoor Education is responsible for the academic, operational and administrative leadership for our schools outdoor education programming from Junior to Senior School. This also includes the Grade 11 Odyssey program and the yearly cohort. With a clear passion for serving students with dyslexia, the successful candidate will not only embody Fraser Academys mission, vision and values, but also provide inspired leadership through integrity, consistency and openness as they implement programming and the achievement of the Schools strategic goals.

They will also demonstrate strong relationship building, outdoor education and risk management skills in order to ensure a safe, caring and supportive experience for students and faculty that is key to promoting outdoor education, academic excellence and wellbeing. Finally, the successful candidate must model excellent practice, be energetic, forward thinking, highly accountable, a hands-on worker, and able to motivate those around them.


Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership and direction to the outdoor education programming, including planning/leading trips, recruiting faculty to support those trips, and designing the educational outcomes those trips are meant to provide.
  • Collaboratively lead the grade 11 semester long Odyssey program, where a select group of students complete 5 courses in the midst of extensive outdoor education opportunities and trips.
  • Teach the Life Science 11 and Human Geography components of the Odyssey program and support the instruction of the other courses within the program
  • Work with the staff to foster an innovative, collaborative, student-centered learning environment
  • Maintain a knowledge and understanding of current educational research, particularly pertaining to the education of students with dyslexia
  • Liaise with families regarding outdoor education, its importance for our student population, risk management and safety on outdoor education trips, and supporting student well-being and resilience building
  • Ensure the delivery and continuity of outdoor education throughout all grade levels taking into consideration scope and sequence, classroom practices, assessment, and cross-collaborative hands-on learning
  • Collaborate with colleagues on the Middle Leadership Team
  • Plan, manage and oversee the operational and logistical elements of the Outdoor Education program including, but not limited to the budget, schedule, and parent information sessions
  • Promote positive relationships with faculty in a School climate that is supportive and promotes a holistic approach to high performance while maintaining wellness
  • Work with members of the middle leaders team to build bridges across the Schools divisions and promote a well-connected School community
