The Co-op Student Support Specialist plays a vital role in assisting students as they prepare for co-op work terms and future career opportunities. This position focuses on reviewing and providing feedback on students’ application materials, helping them navigate the co-op program requirements, and collaborating with campus partners to ensure a seamless co-op experience. This role is not instructional or teaching-focused but centers on reviewing, advising, and coordinating support for students’ job search readiness.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review and provide feedback on students’ résumés, cover letters, and other job application materials to ensure accuracy and professionalism.
  • Assist students with understanding co-op program requirements and timelines.
  • Provide guidance and resources related to interview preparation, job search strategies, and professional communication.
  • Support students in identifying and matching with appropriate co-op job opportunities that align with their skills and career goals.
  • Participate in and support the delivery of career-related workshops, job fairs, and campus events.
  • Monitor and track student progress throughout the co-op process, including applications, interviews, and placements.
  • Collaborate with faculty, student services, and other internal stakeholders to align co-op program objectives with academic and institutional goals.

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education in a relevant field such as career development, education, human resources, business, or related disciplines.
  • Experience working in a student services, career services, or administrative support role is an asset.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and engage with diverse student populations.
  • Familiarity with co-op programs or experiential learning is considered an asset.

POSITION SCOPE:

Under the direction of the Education Services Manager, and in accordance with the policies and procedures as set out by Atikameksheng Anishnawbek, the In-School Student Support Worker will primarily provide support to individual elementary students in the school setting with assignments and reinforce learning and retention concepts.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education

A diploma in Early Childhood Education, Developmental Service Worker, Educational Assistant, Child and Youth
Care Worker, or related field

Valid Ontario Class 'G' Driver's License with clean drivers abstract

Criminal Reference Check and Vulnerable Sector Check annually and at time of offer

First Aid and CPR with AED Certification


Knowledge and Skills

Knowledge of the IEP, Behavior Safety Plans, and Behavior Management Plans

Broad knowledge of child and youth development

Exude high levels of patience

Excellent problem-solving skills

Excellent negotiation and mediation skills

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Advocate to ensure educational resources are available

Assist student(s) in developing social, life and learning skills

Assist student(s) to learn and complete assigned activities and assignments as directed by the teacher

Accompany and supervise student(s) during activities in school gymnasium, laboratories, libraries, resource
centres, and on field trips

ABOUT THE ROLE
We are seeking a highly dedicated and organized Education Support Assistant who is looking for an enriching experience to be part of the Fort McKay First Nation (FMFN) Education team. The Education Support Assistant supports the Post Secondary Education Coordinator and the Education Administrative team in the delivery and administration of the FMFN post-secondary education program and Education support services, available to Fort McKay First Nation members. Based out of Elsie Fabian school and reporting directly to the Education Director, this is a permanent full-time position, based on seventy-five (75) hours bi-weekly.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist in the planning, development and implementation of programs and services for the Education Department.
  • Provide administrative assistance and support to the administrative team and Education Director as requested.
  • Process all new student application forms and inform them of approval process, policy and guidelines.  
  • Assist with processing applications, student invoices, documentation and maintain accurate files and records for all PSE student files each semester.
  • Ensure students maintain their responsibilities outlined in the post-secondary program policy.  
  • Update and maintain the PSE student database to ensure accurate records for all PSE students.
  • Establish and maintain excellent rapport with students, and refer them to academic support services, as needed.
  • Assist with new student orientation and conduct post-secondary student interviews relating to their progress, grades, attendance and if there are any issues concerning students attending post-secondary.
  • Provide information and appropriate websites so students may apply for bursaries or scholarships.
  • Assist with all reporting, data entry, filing, documentation, meeting minutes and administrative functions for the PSE program.
  • Continue education through upgrading and review of current related literature.
  • Compile and prepare data, statistics and requirements for monthly, quarterly and annual reports as requested by the Education Director.
  • Assist Elsie Fabian school administrative team as required.  
  • Assist PSE Coordinator with email communication, correspondence and phone calls to track and monitor student progress.
  • Assist with the organization and coordination of community education and/or engagement sessions related to education and the post-secondary education program.
  • Other duties as assigned.

KEY REQUIREMENTS
  • High school Diploma or equivalent
  • Diploma in Business Administration, Education, Social Services, Career Counseling or another related field is required
  • Minimum of one-year related experience
  • Strong computer skills. Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office.  (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc)
  • Ability to speak either Dene or Cree language an asset
  • Experience working in a First Nations community including knowledge of First Nations culture, traditions and values is a definite asset
  • A valid Class 5 drivers license and Clean Drivers Abstract
  • Criminal Record Check with vulnerable sector is required

ABOUT THE ROLE
We are seeking passionate Teaching Assistant Supervisor’s (TAS) who are looking for an enriching experience to be part of the school team. Our TAS’s are responsible for supporting and developing Fort McKay students, while focusing on the delivery of exceptional educational services. These are casual on-call positions reporting directly to the Principal of Elsie Fabian School.

Duties:

Responsible for aiding in planning and implementing learning activities and providing a wide range of stimulating material.

Responsible for helping with organizing the learning environment and overseeing activities that foster all areas of the child's emotional, cognitive, social and physical development. This includes play-based learning programs and small or large group activities.

Plan and organize activities for children.

Assist in record keeping and help maintain the equipment.

Plan and maintain a high-quality environment that protects the health, security and well-being of children.

Assess the abilities, interests and needs of children and discuss progress or problems with parents and other staff members.

Required to submit written observations on children.

Support children in the development of their self-help skills and independence.

Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with co-workers and community service providers working with children.

Attend staff meetings and professional development opportunities as required.

Work in partnership to maintain cleanliness and organization of classroom materials.

Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Must have working experience in a child care centre in Canada. 

Certified in Standard First Aid and CPR training level C

Clear Police Vulnerable Sector Criminal Check

Medical clearance and up to date immunizations

Working knowledge of ELECT and How Does Learning Happen

Candidates should possess the ability to demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication and be able to work as part of committed and dedicated team
