5+ years of experience in a health and safety role in a manufacturing or industrial settings (mid-size to large enterprise)
Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field
Strong knowledge of local, provincial and federal HSE regulations and standards

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Work with and direct contractors to implement construction safety management systems and other safety requirements.
  • Provide safety leadership for both new and existing construction projects, including structural steel, mechanical, and electrical equipment installation.
  • Lead weekly contractor safety representatives’ meetings made up of trades working onsite.
  • Conduct formal safety audits of activities related to construction and equipment installation.
  • Review contractor JSA’s to confirm completeness and accuracy of work being performed.

What You Bring

  • Proven experience managing projects requiring critical thinking (kaizen), problem solving, data analysis, and verification.
  • Applied understanding of key regulatory frameworks including CSA, OHSA, ANSI, and NFPA standards.
  • NCSO designation (achieved or in progress) required.
  • CRSP designation (achieved or in progress) strongly preferred.

**ABOUT THE ROLE**
The Safety Supervisor is a pan-business role that is pivotal to growing our safety culture and ensuring compliance across the business. The position works closely with all levels of the business to ensure structured processes are developed and integrated into our management operating system at the field level. The Safety Supervisor needs to balance compliance, education and a practical knowledge of field work in their daily activities.
The Safety Supervisor is integral in maintaining the capability of the GVA Asphalt, Pave, Construction, Civil and Infrastructure operations organization to increase construction revenue and capability. This includes actively participating in building a culture of agility, collaboration, and empowerment enabling continuous improvement. + Monitor Site Docs (electronic safety platform) to ensure accountabilities are being completed.

Coordinates planning, administration, training, and enforcement of facility’s Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) program to ensure compliance with all company policies and local, state, and federal regulations. Identifies hazards and assesses risk to HSE, involving individuals to identify the appropriate safety controls, and providing advice on accident prevention and occupational health to management and employees.

  • Promotes occupational health and safety awareness throughout assigned facility.
  • Conducts ongoing safety inspections of facilities, operations, and equipment to ensure compliance and safe working environment for associates.
  • Monitors and enforces compliance to regulatory and company requirements
  • Implements standard HSE support using common tools provided by the Operations Excellence HSE Team
  • Conducts all necessary HSE Training, including new hire safety training and all other on-site trainings required for both hourly and management associates
  • Reviews SOP and observes site roles being performed to Develops Job Safety Analysis for each role within assigned site
  • Facilitates incident investigations, root cause analysis for sites. Presents findings to Safety Manager and/or Functional Safety team to partner on corrective actions.
  • Assists the Regional and or Campus HSE Managers with Safety Improvement Plan Implementations when necessary
  • Assists the Regional or Campus HSE Manager with start-ups, as necessary
  • Monitors and provides expertise and assistance on the Logics Incident Module
  • Identifies improvement opportunities for their site and supports the continuous improvement processes
  • Actively participates on assigned teams and/or projects, including site Health & Safety Committee and process improvement initiatives.

Required Education and Experience

  • Associates degree in environmental, safety, industrial hygiene or related field or equivalent experience (1-3 years of direct/dedicated safety experience), required
  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental, safety, industrial hygiene or related field, preferred
  • 1-3 years of safety experience, required
  • Supply Chain knowledge, preferred
  • Knowledge of CCOHS and other regulatory requirements, required

**Responsibilities:**
+ Lead, design, develop and implement initial and recurrent safety training programs for transportation personnel.
+ Supervise driver trainers, by establishing objectives, standards, work schedules and accountability for job performance.
+ Proactively recruit individuals to apply and train them to become School Bus Drivers
+ Provide classroom instruction and behind the wheel training of applicants and bus drivers to ensure successful completion of training and testing; recommend upgrades as necessary
+ Provide on-going training and performance evaluations for all Driver employees
+ Administer and maintain Company random drug/alcohol testing and pre-employment drug/alcohol testing program in conjunction with Corporate office.
+ Develop and conduct regularly scheduled Driver Safety Meetings.
+ Assume primary responsibility in responding to personal injury and vehicle accidents by on-scene investigation and preparing and submitting reports to the Corporate office in accordance with Company policy.
+ Investigate customer service complaints relative to safety issues and take appropriate corrective action.
+ Administer and maintain Company Safe Driver Award Program.
+ Exhibits the highest ethical best practices and personal integrity; Shares concerns about suspicious or inappropriate behavior with their supervisor or manager
**Qualifications**
+ High School diploma or equivalent. Some college preferred.
+ 3 years as a Trainer in school bus transportation industry desired
+ Supervisory experience preferred; specifically experience supervising/training a driver workforce
+ Must complete state certification program or Stock's Training Academy for school bus driver instructor. Equivalent work experience as a Trainer can be substituted as appropriate.
+ SBDI certification required; Commercial Driver's License with Passenger and School Bus Endorsements required;
+ No preventable accidents in the past 36 and acceptable driving performance in the past 36 months is required
+ Strong working knowledge of MS Office Software (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.) and transportation related software
+ Strong leadership skills and interpersonal skills
+ Strong organizational and group presentation skills
+ Well-developed multi-tasking and time management skills
+ Ability to provide direction, coaching and mentoring to employees while creating an environment that encourages and values input and feedback
+ Ability to respond to unanticipated events to ensure excellence in customer service.
+ Ability to Investigate claims and incidents of questionable conduct, accidents etc.
+ Computer literacy skills in word processing and spreadsheets
