**Job Description**
AECOM Buildings + Place, is seeking a motivated and skilled **Electrical Design Engineer** to help lead buildings projects (commercial, institutional, light industrial facilities, such as Water and Wastewater Treatment Plants and Sewage Lift Stations) This position can be based out of **Ottawa** office with opportunities for hybrid work. Some travel to nearby cities may be required. This role offers opportunities for career growth.
AECOM Buildings + Places Canada (B+P Canada) is a vibrant and growing fully integrated team spanning architecture, all the building's engineering disciplines, landscape architecture, urban planning, urban design, economics and asset management for design and infrastructure projects. Project assignments may include, although not limited to: Municipal, Commercial, Institutional projects, Justice, Education and Government.
**Major Responsibilities:**
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
+ Developing various types of reports including schematic design, design development, building assessment, and design build/assist scope of work documents
+ Preparing electrical drawings and specifications
+ Implement design concept through the preparation and production of drawings to detail lighting, power, fire alarm, and specialty low voltage systems rough-ins (i.e. telecom., intrusion control, security, CCTV, door access controls, etc.)
+ Providing technical and administrative support through all phases of the project
+ Conduct necessary research to gather industry, field, and project specific data
+ Ensuring design conforms with all applicable codes and standards.
+ Working with prime consultants, engineering consultants, and contractors; responding to technical queries
+ Construction administration responsibilities:
+ Attending site meetings and site reviews complete with reports
+ Shop drawing reviews
+ SI and CCN preparations.
+ Contractors change quotation reviews
+ Progress billing reviews
+ Fire alarm verification report reviews
+ Able to work tight schedules, control project budgets and motivate staff to do the same
+ Sound judgment supported by excellent technical, analytical and problem-solving skills
+ Well organized, self-directed work habits with a demonstrated ability to prioritize and schedule tasks managing multiple projects simultaneously in a dynamic environment
**Qualifications**
**Minimum Requirements:**
In order to be considered for the position, candidates must possess, at a very minimum:
+ Bachelor's Degree in Engineering
+ Two (2)+ years of experience in the engineering consulting industry in a building engineering group
+ Holding or the ability to obtain Secret Level security clearance
**Preferred Requirements:**
+ Prefer an individual with five (5+) with extensive electrical design experience on transportation-related buildings and facilities such as subway stations.
+ Experience with Electrical load calculations, lighting design and analysis a plus
+ Familiarity with OESC,OBC, IEEE, NFPA, and other industry standards and codes
+ Experience in designing electrical power and lighting systems
+ Knowledge with power analysis tools such as SKM and/or ETAP
+ Proficient in the use of computers for making engineering calculations, spreadsheets, and report writing
+ Familiarity with providing guidance and support for others within a department
+ Analytical, technical and problem-solving skills and abilities
+ Ability to communicate, coordinate, and work well with others both internally and externally
+ Strong verbal and written communication skills and commitment to technical excellence and quality
+ Self-motivated and proactive
+ Analytical, resourceful and detailed oriented
+ A good team player and decision maker.
+ Valid driver's license
+ Additional certifications such as LEED, LC, CEM, RCDD etc. are a bonus
+ Communications system design experience is a plus
+ Experience with IES energy modeling tool is desirable
+ Some Project Management experience and training desired
**Additional Information**
+ Company paid relocation is not available for this position

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $85,000.00 - $10,000.00.

PURPOSE OF POSITION:
The Electrical Design Engineer is responsible for the design of low and medium voltage power systems and acts as the primary technical interface for the equipment they are assigned.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
· Create bill of material and drawing packages for manufacture for equipment of moderate complexity.
· Independently performs design, troubleshooting and commissioning job functions as needed to support IEM equipment.
· Support production during the equipment manufacturing phase and testing by answering any technical inquiries.
· Work with mechanical designers to layout out and create front views/plan views of switchgear and switchboards.
· Select components and create detailed bills of materials for our products
· Write sequence of operation documents to define automatic system functionality.
· Work with test and field service teams to verify system operation to the design and written sequence of operations.
· Collaborate with other IEM teams to support equipment demonstrations in the factory, providing hands-on technical expertise and guidance to ensure successful execution of the factory witness test.
· Perform design job functions as needed to support IEM’s products and to achieve customer goals
· Independently support sales and the project management team in answering customer questions as it relates to the design.
· Complete short field assignments where troubleshooting, design consultation, customer meetings, or engineering support is required (generally less than 5 days at a time and not to exceed 15% of total time)
COMPETENCIES:
· Understanding of electrical engineering principles and applications as they apply to the power industry, including codes, standards, and design practices.
· Experienced in utilizing AutoCAD for electrical design.
· Understanding of mechanical layout and considerations.

Role and Responsibilities
- Organize and prioritize daily work requirements regularly.
- Update and maintain project planner.
- Design and development of high frequency transformers in various geometries such as EE, EF, EFD, ETD, EP, EPC, PQ, P core, ET, UT and custom geometries up to 500 kHz.
- Design and development of low frequency transformers for power applications- up to 100 KVA, single and 3 phase.
- Design and development of various inductor types such as resonant inductors, PFC choke, low frequency inductors, Rectifier Inductors and high current inductors up to 300 Amps and above, single and 3 phase.
- Design and develop magnetics for various converters such as LLC converters, Forward converters, Fly back converters, Full and Half Bridge converters, Buck-Boost converters etc.
- Perform testing of power transformers up to 100KVA with voltage range up to 20KV as per IEC standards including Partial Discharge Testing.
- Perform / assist with product development, including Prototype development: Build, test and prepare first article inspection reports.
- Create and update manufacturing product RFQs, BOMs - ROUTERS & Drawings.
- Assist with Nonconforming product analysis, disposition and corrective action
- Assist with test set-ups, incoming, in-process and final inspections and test results data entry and reporting.
- Assist with assigned Quality Program Continuous Improvement projects.
- Assist with ISO 9001, and AS9100D QMS audits.
- Assist in supporting ROHS & REACH compliance requirements.
- Assist in implementation of other quality systems as required.
- Provide support and training assistance to manufacturing Supervisors and operators as required.
- Perform production machine setups as required.
- Assist in building and testing prototypes to specifications.
- Provide customer support as needed.
- Suggest improvements to processes and procedures via the yearly continuous improvement plans targeting efficiency, cost savings, quality improvements, etc.
- Magnetics design optimization with respect to quality, reliability, MTBF and cost.

Qualifications and Education Requirements
- Degree: Completion of a two- or three-year college program in electrical or electronics engineering or equivalent.
- Minimum 5 years of hand-on experience in Design and Development of Magnetics.
- Strong understanding of design methodologies for various types of transformers and inductors as well as transformer Insulation systems and their associated safety standards.
- Possess in-depth knowledge of material selections for magnetics in accordance with UL/CSA insulation systems, IEC standards (e.g., UL1058, IEC60601 etc.)
- Proficient in Solid Works and AutoCAD.
- Proficient in Excel. Able to work with transformer design spreadsheets for simulation and optimization.

You'll report to the Engineering Director and take charge of electrical transformer design, ensuring compliance with internal standards and client specifications.
Main duties include:
* Designing transformers using industry and customer standards with design software tools.
* Producing technical drawings, BOMs, and documentation for production and procurement teams.
* Participating in design reviews with clients and failure investigations.
* Supporting sales, service, and other internal teams with technical expertise.
* Contributing to cost reduction, product improvement, and process innovation initiatives.
* Applying IEEE, CSA, IEC standards and Delta Star's design rules.
Your Profile :
* Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (required).
* P.Eng license is a strong asset.
* 3-5 years of experience in power transformer design.
* Proficient with analytical design tools, MS Office, and ERP systems (e.g., Dynamics D365).
* Knowledge of IEEE, CSA, and IEC standards.
* Strong client focus, quality-driven, deadline-oriented.
* Collaborative mindset in a multicultural environment.
* Bilingualism (French/English) is an asset.
Working Conditions :
* Permanent full-time position (37.5h/week)
