**Job Description**
AECOM Buildings + Place, is seeking a motivated and skilled **Electrical Design Engineer** to help lead buildings projects (commercial, institutional, light industrial facilities, such as Water and Wastewater Treatment Plants and Sewage Lift Stations) This position can be based out of **Ottawa** office with opportunities for hybrid work. Some travel to nearby cities may be required. This role offers opportunities for career growth.
AECOM Buildings + Places Canada (B+P Canada) is a vibrant and growing fully integrated team spanning architecture, all the building's engineering disciplines, landscape architecture, urban planning, urban design, economics and asset management for design and infrastructure projects. Project assignments may include, although not limited to: Municipal, Commercial, Institutional projects, Justice, Education and Government.
**Major Responsibilities:**
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
+ Developing various types of reports including schematic design, design development, building assessment, and design build/assist scope of work documents
+ Preparing electrical drawings and specifications
+ Implement design concept through the preparation and production of drawings to detail lighting, power, fire alarm, and specialty low voltage systems rough-ins (i.e. telecom., intrusion control, security, CCTV, door access controls, etc.)
+ Providing technical and administrative support through all phases of the project
+ Conduct necessary research to gather industry, field, and project specific data
+ Ensuring design conforms with all applicable codes and standards.
+ Working with prime consultants, engineering consultants, and contractors; responding to technical queries
+ Construction administration responsibilities:
+ Attending site meetings and site reviews complete with reports
+ Shop drawing reviews
+ SI and CCN preparations.
+ Contractors change quotation reviews
+ Progress billing reviews
+ Fire alarm verification report reviews
+ Able to work tight schedules, control project budgets and motivate staff to do the same
+ Sound judgment supported by excellent technical, analytical and problem-solving skills
+ Well organized, self-directed work habits with a demonstrated ability to prioritize and schedule tasks managing multiple projects simultaneously in a dynamic environment
**Qualifications**
**Minimum Requirements:**
In order to be considered for the position, candidates must possess, at a very minimum:
+ Bachelor's Degree in Engineering
+ Two (2)+ years of experience in the engineering consulting industry in a building engineering group
+ Holding or the ability to obtain Secret Level security clearance
**Preferred Requirements:**
+ Prefer an individual with five (5+) with extensive electrical design experience on transportation-related buildings and facilities such as subway stations.
+ Experience with Electrical load calculations, lighting design and analysis a plus
+ Familiarity with OESC,OBC, IEEE, NFPA, and other industry standards and codes
+ Experience in designing electrical power and lighting systems
+ Knowledge with power analysis tools such as SKM and/or ETAP
+ Proficient in the use of computers for making engineering calculations, spreadsheets, and report writing
+ Familiarity with providing guidance and support for others within a department
+ Analytical, technical and problem-solving skills and abilities
+ Ability to communicate, coordinate, and work well with others both internally and externally
+ Strong verbal and written communication skills and commitment to technical excellence and quality
+ Self-motivated and proactive
+ Analytical, resourceful and detailed oriented
+ A good team player and decision maker.
+ Valid driver's license
+ Additional certifications such as LEED, LC, CEM, RCDD etc. are a bonus
+ Communications system design experience is a plus
+ Experience with IES energy modeling tool is desirable
+ Some Project Management experience and training desired

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $85,000.00 - $10,000.00.

Qualifications and Requirements:
  • Post-secondary Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field required.
  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering is an asset.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng) designation is required.
  • 5+ years of experience in Electrical Engineering for industrial, commercial, and/or institutional buildings.
  • Work experience designing HV substations, fire alarms, lighting, emergency power generation, MV and LV distribution systems, and large electrical systems.
  • Knowledge of applicable codes and standards such as the Canadian Electrical Code, Ontario Building Code (OBC), Canadian National Building Code (NBC), etc.
  • Ability to meet deadlines/successful completion of deliverables.
  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to work under pressure on various tasks.

Key Responsibilities
The Intermediate Discipline Engineer supports senior engineers in the design, coordination, and execution of projects within their area of specialization. This role requires technical competence, collaboration with internal and external teams, and the ability to deliver compliant, high-quality designs.

Design & Technical Execution

  • Perform design work for the assigned discipline in compliance with relevant codes and standards
  • Support drafting team with technical input and drawing markups

Project Coordination

  • Collaborate with architects, engineers, and consultants to coordinate designs

  • Support QA/QC reviews of project deliverables

About the role

Are you a skilled Senior Electrical Engineer with a passion for innovation and a knack for solving complex problems? We are looking for a Senior Electrical Engineer to join our dynamic Research and Development team. You'll have the exciting opportunity to collaborate with an awesome group of R&D gurus in the areas of firmware, electronics, mechanical, software, systems, sensor engineering, as well as oceanography at the forefront of oceanographic sensors and systems development. We are seeking a hands-on problem solver who can work independently, take responsibility, and deliver high-quality work. As a key member of a small team of technical experts, you must be dedicated, an effective communicator, and thrive in a fast-paced environment. Your ability to develop products with mixed-signal, very low power and low noise board-level designs will allow you to make a real and positive contribution to RBR products and for our customers. What you’ll do
  • Design, implement and bring through to production, board-level electronics for RBR's product lines

  • Design and develop mixed-signal, very low-power, low-noise circuits

  • Design of analog front-end and signal-processing circuits

  • Design low-noise, high-efficiency voltage regulators

  • Analyze system design trade-offs to optimize for conflicting requirements

  • Translate design specifications into functional electrical designs

  • Create detailed technical specifications and prototype verification plans

  • Contribute to overall architecture and feature design, ensuring design quality and product integrity for products released to production

  • Provide first-line support to production/assembly for electronics-related issues and second-line support to resolve customer issues

**What you can expect to do here:**
+ Participate in the design of plans, preliminary estimations and details for commercial and industrial building projects;
+ Electrical design for building Power distribution, Fire Alarm, Grounding, Lightning Protection, Emergency Power and Life Safety Generator systems
+ Provide day to day guidance to design team, be the design lead for their projects, client facing and representing WSP. Prepare calculation, conceptual and detail design, technical specification, installation details, permit / tender / post-tender services, and perform contract admin (CA) services to review shop drawings, RFI's, etc?
+ Preparing contract document, Professional signing and sealing, working with Project Managers (PMs), senior engineers, designers, 3D modelers to submit the project for permit and tender;
+ Take ownership of multiple concurrent projects as a Project Manager and Lead Engineer throughout the project life cycle;
**What you'll bring to WSP:**
+ Minimum Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering and registered P.Eng. with PEO;
+ 15 years of experience designing electrical systems for commercial and industrial building projects including but not limited to: power distribution, grounding, fire alarm, fire protection, lightning protection, arc flash study, emergency power and life safety; .
+ Complete understanding of building electrical engineering requirement, Codes and Standards, including but not limited to Ontario Building Codes (OBC), OESC, CEC, CSA, NFPA, IEEE, ASHRAE, etc.;
+ Strong technical background to guide and mentor intermediate and junior engineers;
+ Liaise with contractors and defend the electrical designs;
**Must be eligible for Reliability clearance

**Your Opportunity**
Our Ottawa office is looking for a highly motivated Senior/Intermediate Electrical Engineer to join our growing, multi-disciplinary team. Responsibilities include the design of electrical systems including power distribution, essential and life safety systems, lighting, power system studies, construction administration, preparing proposals and working closely with team members, project managers, internal and external clients, contractors and suppliers. **Your Key Responsibilities**
+ Accountable for assisting/leading with overall project electrical design; prioritizing quality while meeting deliverable deadlines, monitoring project scope, and adhering to project budgets.
+ Assist in leading project coordination meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants, owner and contractor, subcontractors, and vendors.
+ Participate/Lead client project requirement meetings, value analysis, and cost estimating.
+ Support / lead technical sections of assigned proposal pursuits.
+ Develop and manage project scope, budget, design approach, staffing and schedule for projects of varying sizes and complexities in coordination with the project manager.
+ Evaluate, select, specify, and design applicable electrical engineered systems or products required for the project, ranging from 120V to 44kV.
+ Support / lead the development of electrical design deliverables such as single line drawings, elementary and wiring diagrams, equipment specifications (including transformers, MCC (Motor Control Center), switchgear, substation equipment); power plans, conduit plans, cable schedules, system studies and protective relay settings.
+ Support / lead in the development of designs through sketches, electronic models, diagrams, and other visual formats including 3D design tools.
+ Coordinate across engineering disciplines within the project team to facilitate development of deliverables.
+ Lead / contribute to the preparation and coordination of the project specifications with construction support documents.
+ Contribute to our culture of continuous improvement by sharing lessons learned.
+ Local travel within the National Capital Region for site inspections and client meetings.
**Your Capabilities and Credentials**
+ Self-starter with experience navigating engineering design concerns and developing project scope documents, technical reports, cost estimating and project proposals.
+ Thorough understanding of design standards and codes for electrical power systems.
+ Knowledge of industry standards and electrical engineering design principles.
+ Familiar with design and operation of power systems ranging from 120V to 44kV.
+ Experienced in interpreting and applying the requirements within the Canadian Electrical Code, Ontario Electrical Safety Code, and Ontario Building Code.
+ Experienced in managing and leading electrical projects from the pursuit phase through design and construction.
+ Team player, collaborator with interpersonal skills with experience in managing and coordinating people.
+ Excellent oral and written communication skills, organizational skills and aptitude for problem solving.
+ Experience in managing multi-discipline projects and/or pursuits is an asset.
+ Familiarity with AutoCAD is an asset.

+ Experience working with Revit and BIM exposure is an asset.
+ Proficiency in verbal and written communication in French is considered an asset.
**Education and Experience**
Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in the province of Ontario (or eligible for registration).
License to practice engineering in Quebec is considered an asset.
Electrical design experience in low, medium and high voltage, systems lighting, power distribution, grounding, fire alarm, communications and security systems is considered an asset.
