Power Systems Electrician (QEC-25-035)

Rankin Inlet, Nunavut

Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, the Power System Electrician is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and overhauling electrical systems and equipment including engines, pumps, compressors, radiators, heat exchangers, lube oil systems, fuel oil systems, cooling systems, and other related subsystems.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Inspects, troubleshoots, and repairs electrical generation systems, subsystems, and equipment to ensure maximum productivity and quality.
  • Inspects, troubleshoots, and repairs emergency electrical systems, subsystems, and equipment and replaces as required.
  • Travels to remote communities to perform regular inspections, conduct preventative maintenance, install equipment, and perform general repairs to electrical generation systems.
  • Works in collaboration with the Engineering department to review design and equipment specifications to ensure projects meet all regulatory and QEC compliance standards.
  • Works in collaboration with related trades and staff to ensure on-time and on-budget completion of capital and O&M projects.
  • Maintains maintenance documentation and coordinates with Engineering, operators, maintenance staff, when amending documentation.
  • Provides on-site solutions or modifications to bring systems back online as quickly as possible during outage situations while mitigating risk to equipment.
  • Maintains a clean and safe work environment at all times and acts in a pro-active manner to make timely recommendations for continuous improvement of operations and equipment.
  • Coordinates with Stores to ensure appropriate electrical inventory and materials are ordered in advance of the annual sealift season.
  • Ensures work is conducted in accordance with all corporate policies and procedures; territorial, provincial, and national codes; and in compliance with all health, safety and environmental regulations.

Required Qualifications Include:

  • Knowledge of Nunavut, the land, language, and culture.
  • The ability to communicate in Inuktitut, Inuinnaqtun and/or French.

We offer a competitive salary range of $113,838.40 to $32,059.20 and a northern living allowance of 18,517.00 per annum. We also offer a comprehensive benefits package, including a defined-benefit pension program. Accommodation is not guaranteed at this point. Will be allocated when available. Your Role as Intermediate Electrical Engineer

In your role as an Intermediate Electrical Engineer, reporting to the Manager of Power Systems Engineering Services, you are responsible for performing engineering design and studies for various electrical distribution and substation projects (from 600V up to 230kV voltage levels). This includes preparing electrical protection and control design deliverables, and/or physical layouts for medium and high voltage substations. You will also establish project strategy, review drawings, and ensure elements of design and detailing adhere to jurisdictional requirements and will liaise with all key stakeholders.

Your Key Accountabilities

  • Technical and Documentation
    • Independently prepares and verifies complex technical calculations.
    • Designs distribution systems utilizing client standards including bill of materials, yard layouts, plans, sections and details, grounding, ground grid, control building arrangements, interior and exterior raceways, auxiliary AC and DC power systems and cable lists.
    • Designs protection and control scheme; including CT selection, relay wiring design and protection parameter selection using IEEE standards and applicable codes.
    • Prepares scope of work, estimates, schedules, budgets, specifications and reports.
    • Prepare new and modify existing relay drawings including relay panel arrangements, single lines, three lines, AC and DC schematics, equipment wiring, and relay panel wiring.
    • Prepare new and modify existing reports/studies such as Protection and Coordination, Arc Flash, Load Flow and Grounding.
    • Leads site visits for data collection, and assessments and to provide recommendations for remedial action.
    • Leads and provides oversight for QAQC (quality assurance quality control) checks as
      required.
    • Completes and reviews project documentation and technical report development.
  • Business Development and Client Management
    • Identifies and pursues new high-value business opportunities.
    • Leads in the preparation and presentation of proposals of significant scope and complexity.
    • Manages client communications including regular updates, contract negotiation, and documentation.
    • Provides strategic client management and addresses high-priority concerns.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 7 years of related low/medium/high voltage power distribution experience is required
  • A degree in electrical engineering is required
  • Registered with PEO, and holds a Professional Engineering License (P.Eng), or equivalent in Canada.
  • Substation design experience considered an asset
  • Familiarity with power systems including power systems studies (load flow and protective device coordination using Easypower, SKM and ETAP), project scopes, project schedules and deliverables
  • Knowledge of engineering standards, codes and guidelines
  • Strong industrial experience, with experience in surface and underground mining
  • Knowledge of mining-related processes is a definite asset

Job Description

General:

  • Responsible for following-up temporary site installations for construction sites for all SEM (Sequential Excavation Method) related Equipment.
  • Ensure a high standard of safety at any time. Enforce Lock Out Tag Out procedure.
  • Install, maintain, troubleshoot all electrical installations relating to SEM Equipment.
  • Ensure installation is always in compliance with Canadian Standards in Ontario.

Operations:

  • Explain and implement OTG procedures to ensure good comprehension of works by the site teams.
  • Prepare daily work for crew, schedule tasks, and dispatch team according to site planning and priorities.
  • Perform or assist during initial setup, testing, and commissioning of SEM Equipment (i.e Road Header, rockbolter, shotcrete machine, overhead crane, etc.
  • Troubleshoot and repair issues, diagnosing faults in real-time to minimize operational downtime.
  • Collaborate with project managers, electrical engineers, and field technicians to achieve timely installation and commissioning of systems
  • Conduct regular system audits and preventive maintenance to ensure equipment functionality, reliability, and compliance with safety standards
  • Maintain technical documentation up to date, including wiring diagrams, and installation reports for system handover.
  • Ensure equipment is well maintained and always safe to use.
  • Always ensure safe and smooth operation.
  • Follow-up procurement to get the material and spare parts on time.
  • Mobilize equipment and material for site teams.
  • Follow-up spare parts and consumables to ensure smooth operation.
  • Coordinate with Plant Engineer and site teams for 3 weeks look ahead and day to day activities.

Reporting:

  • Ensure daily briefing is performed at each shift starting on site and is recorded in the OTG software.
  • Get daily reports from site team; staff and workers presence, hours done, and tasks performed each day.
  • Get the hourly meters / kWh meters of all equipment on site (electrical meters on generators, substations, etc.)
  • Report breakdown time on daily basis.

  • 5+ years’ experience in Temporary Installation Electrical Department with Civil Engineering company

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Minimum 2 - 5 years of direct Electrical Power Distribution design and engineering experience, industrial facilities preferred.
  • P.Eng. designation will be considered an asset.
  • Minimum 2 - 5 years of experience in Renewable, Industrial and Commercial facilities.
  • Working experience designing, developing, and leading different phases of Engineering Projects; from early stages up to Detailed Engineering.
  • Working experience developing and leading Construction Work Packages.
  • Working experience developing and leading Material Requisitions and Technical Bid Evaluations.
  • Working experience developing Electrical Area Classification studies, including thorough understanding of CEC / OESC
  • Proficient in various electrical calculations (i.e. Voltage Drop, Cable Sizing/Ampacities, Basic Short Circuit Calcs, Grounding Design, Equipment Sizing Ratings, Equipment Specification)
  • Proficient in various electrical software (i.e. SKM, Easy Power, CYMCAP, CYMGrd, ETAP or equivalent)
  • Working experience with Drawing Mark-ups
  • Working knowledge of Computer Aided Design software (AutoCAD, MicroStation, etc.).

Position: Electrical and Avionics Systems Engineer
Location: London, Ontario (Onsite)

ITPS is seeking a full-time Electrical Engineer to join our engineering team in support of high-performance aviation programs. The successful candidate will work across the full engineering V-model and contribute to the design, integration, and testing of data acquisition systems, cockpit avionics, and mission-critical electrical subsystems.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead design and development of aircraft electrical systems from concept to production
  • Prepare and maintain engineering documentation: I/O definitions, schematics, interface control documents (ICDs), wiring diagrams
  • Design and review custom PCB layouts and avionics harnessing
  • Oversee component selection, BOM management, and procurement coordination
  • Plan and conduct bench-level and on-aircraft testing, including functional verification, continuity checks, and system validation
  • Collaborate with avionics, flight test, and systems teams for seamless integration into flight platforms
  • Provide technical support during installation, troubleshooting, and acceptance testing phases


Preferred Experience

  • Solid understanding of aircraft electrical systems, power distribution, and signal integrity
  • Hands-on experience with avionics interfaces and protocols: ARINC 429, RS-232/422/485, CAN bus; familiarity with Mil-STD-1553 is an asset
  • Experience with LRU integration, signal routing, grounding/shielding practices, and EMI/EMC considerations
  • Ability to work with aircraft sensors (AHRS, IMUs, magnetometers, electro-optical payloads) and mission/display computers
  • Familiarity with technical drawing tools (e.g., MS Visio, Enovia) and engineering design platforms
  • Understanding of regulatory and airworthiness documentation standards in aerospace systems
  • Exposure to RF components, LTE/satcom, or signal conditioning hardware is a plus


Tools & Software

  • Proficiency with tools such as: MS Office, Navision, Enovia, ARINC scheduling software
  • Experience with Matlab or IADS for system analysis and data visualization
  • Embedded software/firmware knowledge is beneficial but not essential for this role

The Equipment Maintenance Manager is a full-time role based out of the Edmonton office reporting to the Director, Corporate Assets and is responsible for overseeing the business and support functions within the equipment maintenance division. This role plays a critical part in ensuring the efficient, reliable, and cost-effective operation of equipment maintenance activities across the organization.

The successful candidate will leverage their maintenance experience to lead a team focused on optimizing maintenance processes, improving asset reliability, and ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards. In addition, the manager will be responsible for resource planning, budgeting, performance analysis, and driving continuous improvement initiatives.

This role requires strong leadership skills, a strategic mindset, and a hands-on approach to operational management. The Equipment Maintenance Manager will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including operations to ensure alignment with organizational goals and deliver high-quality maintenance support.

Responsibilities:

**Safety & Compliance Leadership**



- Champion a culture of safety excellence by upholding corporate safety programs and ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements.
- Oversee incident investigations, timely notifications, root cause analysis, and corrective action implementation.
- Conduct and verify safety meetings, workplace inspections, and job safety documentation (JSA/FLHA).
- Ensure subcontractors maintain up-to-date safety documentation and certifications.

**Strategic & Business Leadership**



- Serve as a key member of the management team, driving strategic planning, business growth, and operational alignment for the maintenance function.
- Lead decision-making through cost/benefit analysis, resource optimization, and alignment with company-wide objectives.
- Develop and manage annual budgets for labor, parts, supplies, contractors, and major repairs; monitor variances, provide monthly updates, and implement cost-control measures.
- Identify and execute cost-saving initiatives, set internal spending thresholds, and approve expenses in accordance with corporate policies.
- Optimize asset utilization through fleet cycling strategies, equipment retirement planning, and maximizing recovery value.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with vendors, business partners, and internal stakeholders; chair weekly or biweekly meetings with primary partners to ensure business alignment.

**Team & Culture Development**



- Recruit, develop, and retain a high-performing team aligned with company values and safety culture.
- Conduct performance reviews, provide career development pathways, and ensure all training and certifications are current.
- Promote cross-training, mentorship, and succession planning to maintain a resilient and adaptable workforce.
- Foster collaboration between maintenance, field operations, and project management teams to ensure seamless execution of company goals.

**Operational Excellence**



- Oversee daily maintenance operations, ensuring optimal equipment availability through preventive maintenance, work order systems, and planned repairs.
- Participate in project start-up meetings to align equipment planning with schedules and project scope.
- Implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance processes, reliability, and efficiency across the department.
- Collaborate with external vendors (e.g., Finning) on warranty management, component planning, and equipment health monitoring.
- Plan and oversee major equipment repairs, shop rebuild programs, and warranty or parts core returns.

**Fleet & Equipment Management**



- Review and ensure completeness of PM plans, repair logs, rental inspections, and deployment packages.
- Monitor and control parts and labor expenditures to stay aligned with budget targets.
- Lead strategic planning for fleet upgrades, replacements, and major overhauls to support project demands.

**Reporting & Administration**



- Develop disciplined reporting processes for service activities, safety metrics, and operational performance.
- Maintain action logs from operational and vendor meetings to ensure follow-through on commitments.
- Represent the department during quarterly operations and maintenance meetings, providing clear updates on performance, strategy, and priorities.

Qualifications:

- Minimum of 7-10 years of progressive leadership experience within a maintenance environment, preferably within the heavy civil industry.
- Post-secondary education in Business strongly preferred, Civil / Mechanical Engineering will be considered.
- Strong understanding of applicable environmental and occupational health and safety (OHS) regulations.
- Advanced in Microsoft Excel experience with strong overall knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, MS Project, or similar project management tools.
- An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience will be considered an asset.
- Demonstrated commitment to delivering exceptional service to both internal stakeholders and external partners.
