SUMMARY: The General Maintenance/Electrician will work as part of a team to install, test, troubleshoot and repair electrical wiring, fixtures, control devices and related equipment in a manufacturing environment. The position will also support in repairing, maintaining, overhauling and installing a variety of machinery, including pumps, motors, grinders, blowers, compressors, presses, injection systems and hydraulic and pneumatic equipment. The incumbent will be reporting to the Facilities and Maintenance Manager.
ROLE:
- To plan and assist in the implementation of a rigorous, preventative maintenance program as well as a predictive maintenance program to minimize the plant’s downtime.
- Troubleshoot all phases of electrical, mechanical, instrumentation, pneumatic and hydraulic systems of all plant equipment.
- Work alongside, give direction and/or assist outside contractors whom have been hired to assist the organization.
- Have a solid understanding and the ability to program and troubleshoot in-plant PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) system.
- Dismantle, clean, and re-assemble equipment as needed.
- Fabricate parts required during overhaul, maintenance or set-up.
- Identify and correct any problems found in machines, equipment, or processes in order to facilitate production.
- Coordinate and report on all equipment defects and/or failures to the Facilities and Maintenance Manager.
- Participate in workplace safety and ensure compliance with all Health and Safety standards in accordance with current legislation and Active Exhaust’s Health and Safety Policy and best practices.
- Any other responsibilities that may be assigned from time to time.
DESIRED SKILLS:
- A college diploma in Electro-Mechanical (Robotics) program
- Minimum 5 years' Industrial Electrician experience is an asset with preference given to those with a background in a manufacturing environment
- Strong mechanical aptitude including knowledge of hydraulic, pumps and compressors, pneumatic and PLC controls, math skills and strong troubleshooting ability
- Ability to understand blueprints and specifications
- Must be computer literate (including familiarity with Microsoft office suite)
- Must be willing to work outside of regular business hours and perform on call support as required in support of plant operations
- Demonstrates initiative and can work both independently and/or as part of a team
- Analytical thinker with the ability to take a logical approach to problem-solving

- Grade 12 diploma required; college or trade certification preferred
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and wiring diagrams
- Experience installing electrical equipment such as VFDs, panels, lights, motors
- Strong time management and organizational skills
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
- Able to work under pressure and meet project deadlines
- Must hold a valid driver's license with a clean abstract
- Must pass a background check
- Willingness to work overtime, including evenings and weekends, when required
