What youll do:

What were looking for:

  • Bachelor's degree or College Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • 2-4 years of experience in mechanical design, preferably in the robotics or automation industries, or in a related field involving complex electromechanical systems.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD software (On-Shape preferred).
  • Understanding of design for manufacturing (DFM) and assembly (DFA) principles.
  • Familiarity with various manufacturing processes (e.g., machining, sheet metal fabrication, injection molding).
  • Hands-on experience with prototyping and testing.
  • Solid analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Good communication and collaboration skills.
  • A strong desire to learn and grow within a fast-paced engineering environment.

Here are some of the things youll be working on:

  • Provide guidance and supervision to our globally established engineering team members, including mentoring less experienced engineers and technologists at any of our office locations.
  • Conduct performance reviews and evaluations, recommend training and growth opportunities, and identify additional resource needs.
  • Ensure the team adheres to existing verification and checking standards.
  • Collaborate effectively with customers, suppliers, and contractors on technical matters as required, involving regular travel to customer and supplier sites internationally.
  • Apply broad material handling knowledge across engineering design, field installation, and project management.
  • Continue to develop expertise related to EMS-Tech Inc. equipment, systems and methods of analysis and design. For example, but not limited to: FEM Section II, AS4324, CEMA or DIN 22101 conveyor design, hydraulic design, bearing selection, motor power calculations, etc.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and DEM analysis tools
  • Establish conceptual designs and complete analysis and calculation details to satisfy project needs and specifications.
  • Demonstrate excellent technical report writing skills and maintain EMS-Tech Inc.'s confidentiality and intellectual property standards.
  • Participate in the establishment of task scope, design concept, specification, schedules and budgeted hours.
  • Demonstrate analytical skills using mechanical modelling software and analysis techniques.
  • Must be able to use manual methods to verify mechanical modelling and analysis techniques, as well as coach less experienced engineers in these basics.
  • Demonstrate advanced level understanding of drawing presentation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Engineering or Applied Science
  • Licensed P.Eng. designation in Ontario (or recognized equivalent).
  • 1220 years of industry-specific experience.
  • Strong leadership and mentoring skills, coupled with excellent communication abilities.

JOB DUTIES

  • Lead and work with project delivery and carry out project management, contract administration and field reviews for projects under construction
  • Maintain excellent client service through project delivery; ensuring strong communication with clients and acting on client feedback
  • Participate in some business development with associates, including fee proposals
  • Review and assess existing mechanical systems and prepare condition reports
  • Provide technical advisory services to clients for specific projects in respect to mechanical engineering
  • Work on a wide range of project assignments within the mechanical buildings field, including HVAC, plumbing and fire protection
  • Preparing load calculations utilizing industry standard heating/cooling load analysis software
  • Develop and strengthen existing skills and deliver engineering projects in accordance with client requirements and in line with company and industry best practice
  • Undertake internal technical reviews and verification checks on analysis, reports, designs and associated advice
  • Perform other duties as required

REQUIREMENTS
  • 3 to 8 years professional experience with HVAC & Plumbing systems (fire suppression experience an asset)
  • EIT or registered engineer in an Alberta province is preferred
  • Mechanical designers will also be considered
  • Familiarity with the mechanical engineering environment for the detailed design drawings, tender package specifications, feasibility studies, budget estimates, shop drawing reviews, commissioning, and condition assessments
  • An extensive understanding of building construction and building mechanical systems
  • Detailed working knowledge of the Building Code and the National Building Code of Canada

ABOUT THE ROLE
The Mechanical Lead will be responsible for managing a team of mechanical engineering professionals. The role will have a broad focus encompassing strategic team management, client management, project delivery, operations and leadership. The successful candidate will also be responsible for supporting the various engineering teams with their project work to ensure excellent service delivery for mechanical engineering services in a consulting environment and on building projects.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Leadership - Act as Lead for Mechanical Engineering, managing and mentoring staff

  • Possess an excellent knowledge of mechanical systems, means and methods, materials, and industry standards applied to design work, so as to be able to support the various teams
  • Knowledge of and experience with high-performance and sustainable building practices is preferred.

  • Attend leadership meetings to discuss operations, strategic planning, company success and deliverables

WHAT'S REQUIRED
  • Professional Engineer with registration in Canada preferred
  • 10+ years of experience in Mechanical Engineering, with some leadership experience managing a team
  • Solid knowledge and application of the mechanical and/or plumbing requirements per building codes, energy codes, and other related standards
  • Experience working with the design of commercial, public, or institutional projects
  • Strong communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Excellent client and project management skills
  • Strong Leadership skills, able to delegate and manage staff and teams
  • LEED® Accredited Professional is preferred but not essential
