Job Title: Social Emergency Response Coordinator, Full-time, Permanent (Based on Funding Availability)
Position Description: Under the general direction of the Community Safety Manager, the Social Emergency Response Coordinator develops, coordinates, and manages comprehensive response plans for mental health and health emergencies within the community. This role involves collaboration with local health departments, mental health professionals, emergency services, and community organizations to ensure effective and timely responses to crises.
Major Responsibilities:
- Emergency Response Planning: Develop and maintain comprehensive emergency response plans and protocols for public health and mental health crises.
- Coordination and Communication: Act as the central point of contact for coordinating responses among stakeholders, ensuring clear and timely communication.
- Resource Management: Oversee the allocation and management of resources, including medical supplies, personnel, and financial resources.
- Data Collection and Analysis: Collect, analyze, and interpret crisis-related data to inform decision-making and provide updates.
- Evaluating Needs and Trends: Continuously assess and adapt strategies to address evolving needs and trends related to the crisis.
Key Responsibilities:
- Create and maintain emergency response plans compliant with local, provincial, and federal regulations.
- Coordinate with health departments, mental health agencies, hospitals, and emergency services.
- Organize and conduct training sessions and emergency drills.
- Lead and manage response efforts during emergencies.
- Develop and implement community outreach programs.
- Ensure the availability and readiness of necessary resources.
- Collect and analyze data from emergency incidents.
- Prepare detailed reports on emergency response activities.
- Assist in policy development related to emergency response and mental health crisis management.
General Responsibilities:
- Develop emergency management plans using the pillars of emergency management and best practices.
- Coordinate Fort William First Nations response during social emergencies.
- Assess overall risks and conduct trends analysis.
- Identify environmental risks specific to Fort William First Nation.
- Develop a vulnerable community member list and identify needed assistance.
- Coordinate with Medical First Response and Fire prevention.
- Liaise with APS.
- Provide critical incident debriefs.
- Provide community preparedness and education.
- Support elders and vulnerable populations.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Working Conditions:
- May require working outside regular business hours during emergencies.
- Travel within the community as needed.
- Ability to work in high-stress environments.
- Manual dexterity required for computer use.
- Must be able to lift 30 pounds.
- Overtime required.
Qualifications:
- Education: Diploma or Bachelors degree in Emergency Management, Public Health, Mental Health, Crisis Response, or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years in emergency management, mental health crisis response, or a related field.
- Certifications: Certification in Emergency Management (CEM) or equivalent preferred.
Skills:
- Strong leadership and organizational skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and make quick, effective decisions.
- Proficiency in data analysis and report writing.
- Knowledge of local, provincial, and federal emergency management regulations.
- Project management experience.
- Experience working in First Nations communities.
- Ability to work in a team setting and fast-paced environment.
