Are you a Communication Assistant and/or interested in supporting children and their families? Are you interested in working in a team environment with other professionals such as speech language pathologists, psychologists, pediatricians, occupational therapists, rehab assistants, dieticians, behaviour therapists, mental health counsellors, and others?

FIREFLY is a multi-service, non-profit organization and Childrens Treatment Centre located in Northwestern Ontario.In November 2022, FIREFLY achieved Exemplary Standing with Accreditation Canada. We are dedicated to supporting and strengthening the health and well-being of families, children, and youth through emotional, physical, developmental, and community services. Clients can access FIREFLY service in a variety of locations: centre based, in community (fly-in and drive-in communities), in schools, pre-school and child care settings. FIREFLY offices are located throughout Northwestern Ontario, providing a unique opportunity to build strong relationships with children and families, local colleagues and community partners. FIREFLY delivers many of our services in partnership with local First Nation organizations and is committed to building cultural safety into all that we do.

FIREFLY is seeking one (1) full-time Communication Assistant. Successful applicants will have the opportunity to work with a dynamic multi-disciplinary team in Sioux Lookout. The Communication Assistant will work collaboratively supporting the delivery of Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) services and are supervised by qualified SLPs.

Key Job Functions:


  • Conduct client sessions in-person and virtually
  • Assist in conducting hearing assessments
  • Follow and administer documented treatment plans with clients developed by the SLP
  • Provide program support including informal documentation and report writing
  • Prepare resource and promotional materials for the use in therapy, home programs and classrooms
  • Daily travel within the region is required
  • Perform other duties as required

Education/Experience/Skills/Knowledge Required:


  • Diploma in Communication Disorders, Early Childhood Education, Health Sciences or related field is required
  • Communication Disorders Assistant certification preferred.
  • Experience working with children who experience a variety of challenges, including communication disorders
  • Ability to work creatively with clients both individually and in group settings, in the home and school settings
  • Understanding of the Anishinaabe culture, First Nation communities and language is a definite asset
  • Demonstrated knowledge or mature experience in child development
  • Sensitivity to the need of parents/caregivers and the unique needs of each community
  • Computer literate with experience in written documentation
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Canada's internal communications content, visuals, corporate materials; calendars, templates and resources including internal social media, SharePoint intranet and website.

  • Responsible to keep GS1 Canada’s employees informed, maintaining a positive public image in compliance with vision, mission, values and operating principles.

Description:

The Technician is responsible for the installation of structured cabling, coaxial cabling, wireless access points, network hardware, telephony systems, inside and outside plant fiber optic splicing, terminating and testing.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Install, remove, maintain and repair aerial and underground telephone, coaxial and fibre optic cable television, and other telecommunication transmission and distribution lines, cables and associated hardware
  • Splice and repair various types and sizes of telephone and other telecommunication cables including single line, coaxial and fibre optic
  • Repair or replace faulty cables, power supplies, amplifiers or other associated transmission and distribution equipment
  • Inspect, monitor, test and adjust telecommunication transmission lines and cables and distribution systems
  • Analize and record test results
  • Correct cable problems as indicated by supervisor.
  • Ensure removal of abandoned cable and clean-up of work sites.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Requires significant time doing manual labour tasks and sometimes working in tight spaces.
  • Ability to climb and work at elevations (e. g. from ladders, Aerial lift trucks).

Hearing and Speech Nova Scotia (HSNS) provides audiology services to Nova Scotians of all ages, and speech-language pathology services to preschool children and adults. HSNS is funded by the NS Government to deliver integrated and standardized provincial services across 37 clinical sites, located in 26 communities. Nationally certified Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists, with support from Communication Disorder Technicians and Administrative Support Professionals, provide core services (prevention, diagnosis, and treatment), develop and monitor provincial clinical standards, and collaborate with partners to deliver a number of special programs (e.g., Autism, Stroke, Cochlear Implant). Established in 1963, HSNS works to prevent and reduce the impact of communication disorders for Nova Scotians.

We are accepting applications for a temporary, full-time (1.0 FTE) position of Communication Disorders Technician. A CDT works under the supervision of a speech-language pathologist and/or audiologist to provide clinical support for clients with communication needs (e.g., hearing loss, speech sounds, language). Additionally, the CDT coordinates, develops, facilitates, and participates in community-based, clinic, and/or virtual caregiver education and screening activities to raise awareness and promote early identification. The home base site is QEII NSRAC and the position will also provide support to services at nearby sites if/as needed. The successful candidate reports to the assigned Manager. Schedule to be determined.

Requirements:
- Successful completion of a Communication Disorders Technician formal training program or a post-secondary program for speech and language and audiology assistants. A recognized diploma in a related field (e.g.,
OTA/PTA, ECE, CCA/LPN, etc.)from a college will also be considered. May also be currently enrolled in one of these programs if graduation is anticipated before start of employment.
- Successful completion of additional on-the-job training in speech, language and hearing services.
- Effective communication skills, including proficiency in written and spoken English. If English is not your first language further documents will be required.
- Flexibility in work schedule to provide evening/weekend services
- Flexibility to travel on occasion to attend continuing education, events and/or meetings
- Candidate will have to demonstrate current immunization and/or boosters at the end of the probationary period
- Effective interpersonal skills with a wide variety of clients and professionals
- Experience working with adults with communication disorders
- Computer literacy skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Demonstrated good organizational/workload management skills
- Demonstrated familiarity with the Speech-Language & Audiology Canada (SAC) Communication Health Assistant Guidelines

Assets:
- Recent experience working with Audiologists and/or Speech-Language Pathologists
- At least 1 year of experience with adult speech, language, and swallowing caseload
- Ability to communicate in multiple languages
- Familiarity with adult communication disorders (aphasia, hearing loss, aural rehabilitation)
- Experience with provision of services via telepractice
- Experience supporting caregiver training services
- Lived experience with a communication difference
- Able to start immediately
- Successful completion of a Communication Disorders Technician/Communication Disorders Assistant formal training program
- Experience with augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems

En tant que Coordonnateurtrice communication et marketing, tu joueras un rle central dans la cration et la diffusion de contenus multiplateformes. Tu feras le lien entre la stratgie, la cration et l'excution. Ton rle : donner vie aux ides, livrer du contenu juste et engageant et faire rayonner nos clients, un canal la fois. Chaque campagne bien ficele, chaque like bien plac ce sera un peu (beaucoup) grce toi.

Ce que tu feras (et pourquoi tu ne t'ennuieras jamais)
  • Coordination de contenu : Tu construiras les calendriers ditoriaux, tu assureras le suivi des visuels, des textes et des publications. Tu collaboreras avec les stratges numriques et tu t'assureras que chaque livrable arrive destination sans draper (mme quand le lundi est particulirement lunatique).
  • Pilotage de campagnes numriques : Tu seras responsable de la mise en ligne et de l'optimisation de publicits numriques (Google Ads, Meta Ads, LinkedIn Ads, TikTok Ads, YouTube Ads, etc.) en assurant leur performance de A Z. Tu greras les campagnes avec rigueur et crativit, en collaboration avec l'quipe stratgique. Oui, tu seras pleinement dans l'action (et les rsultats) !
  • Rdaction multicanale : Tu rdigeras des infolettres, des publications LinkedIn, des communiqus, des articles de blogue, des captions TikTok, etc. Et tu t'assureras toujours que le ton et la voix de marque soient justes, peu importe la plateforme. Un peu camlon, mais toujours cohrent.
  • Cration de contenus visuels : Tu mettras la main la pte pour crer des visuels, des carrousels, des stories, des animations simples ou des montages (Canva, Creative Suite ou autres outils de ton choix). Tu as un bon il, tu sais ce qui attire l'attention et tu n'as pas peur de tester de nouvelles ides.
  • Animation de rseaux sociaux et optimisation : Tu feras vivre les rseaux sociaux des clients (Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, LinkedIn), tu suivras les performances des contenus, tu liras les stats comme une pro et tu proposeras des ides d'optimisation qui font vraiment la diffrence.
Ton profil (sans filtre)
  • Exprience en communication, en marketing numrique et en cration de contenu, avec une comprhension pratique de la publicit numrique (Google Ads, Meta Ads, etc.). Tu sais que derrire chaque bonne pub, il y a une bonne stratgie (et quelques tests A/B).
  • Tu sais jongler avec plusieurs projets en mme temps sans perdre le fil.
  • Tu as une bonne plume, un bon jugement et tu matrises les bases d'une stratgie de contenu multicanal.
  • La gestion de communaut et la cration de contenu sur les rseaux sociaux n'ont aucun secret pour toi.
  • Un il pour le design, mme de base : tu te dbrouilles avec Canva, Figma ou Creative Suite pour crer des visuels
  • Ton esprit cratif est comme une antenne radar : toujours l'afft de la prochaine ide brillante transformer en succs.
  • Parfaitement l'aise en franais et en anglais, tu jongles avec les deux langues comme un pro.
