Reporting to the Head of Energy Markets & Software Solutions, you will be part of a team developing energy solutions for large business and institutional customers including electric vehicle charging, battery storage, solar PV and power generation. Your work will help unlock the full potential of electric vehicles and charging infrastructure, driving the transition to a clean energy economy.  

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Product Leadership   

  • Understand the technology, the customer, and PowerON’s energy management system (EMS) product offerings. 

  • Lead EMS product vision, maintain business requirements, and drive alignment on EMS product strategy with PowerON product strategy and roadmap.  

  • Own product management functions surrounding energy management system deployments.  

  • Drive innovation in strategic areas of energy management. 

  • Understand partner roadmaps to influence developments in line with business needs.  

  • Drive successful transition throughout the phases of a fleet’s EMS deployment.  

  • Lead research initiatives for projects as needed. 

Product Oversight   

  • Understand electrical infrastructure requirements and integration points across systems.  

  • Apply understanding of load management value stacks (demand response, peak shaving, charging optimization) to produce business development tools and inform product management.  

  • Capture functional and non-functional requirements across engineering and user needs.  

  • Collaborate with internal data and analytics teams regarding energy management analytics and evolving data architecture to capture requirements and align with EMS.  

  • Collaborate with internal engineering, and external vendors to ensure functional performance testing meets product requirements of EMS systems. 

Documentation & Communication   

  • Develop and maintain all product documentation and internal tools for management of EMS product across projects.  

  • Collaborate with external partners (software and hardware, and across internal teams to support delivery of planned functionality on time and on budget. 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Relevant post-secondary degree or equivalent experience an asset. 

  • 3+ years relevant experience.  

  • Knowledge of EV charging, battery storage, generation, demand management products, or energy management systems required.  

  • Self-initiated and intellectually curious, with a strong interest in electrification and energy management.  

  • Adept at management functional requirements and thorough product documentation across complex projects. 

  • Experimental mindset to drive innovation amongst uncertainty and exploit market opportunities. 

  • High level business acumen to set clear priorities for product and understand business value impacts.

The general manager of Kiltech and Energy Management Optimization Consultancy and operations has overall responsibility and accountability for Smardt's Kiltech division globally as well as establishing and managing Energy Management Optimization consultancy and offerings, including operational controls optimization, chiller and central plant optimization and energy management systems. Authority for implementing strategies in line with operational goals whilst exceeding customer expectations for product quality, cost and service levels. Working closely with internal and external stakeholders, managing teams, and providing clear leadership to maximize efficiency and productivity whilst driving operational excellence. In particular working closely with Smardt Chiller controls and TICAs FUCA division to ensure alignment and optimization of both products and operations of Kiltech controls, chiller controls and FUCAs offerings to maximize Chiller and Central Plant Optimization. Collaborate and align with other Energy management optimization leaders across the Smardt and TICA organization


MAIN DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES


Strategy and Development:

  • Develop a turn-key EMC implementation and energy management consulting business under Kiltech.
  • Launch the energy management consulting business
  • Transition from a product-based business to an energy solutions company
  • Plan for specialties in chilled water, refrigeration, heating systems (steam and hot water) and compressed air
  • Develop a business that will deliver energy efficiency and energy management consulting and training
  • Evaluate the challenges faced by the business and take action to mitigate risks and develop opportunities
  • Contribute to overall business strategy and annual budget process
  • Participate in developing the five-year Kiltech strategy which supports the overall growth objective of the Smardt Chiller Group in equipment revenue and profitability.
    • Improve PMI contract challenges and restore relationship
  • Grow integrated outcome-based offerings:
    • Technical solutions
    • Financial solutions
    • Business objectives (ESG, carbon net-zero, etc.)
  • Creatively leverage CPECS software
    • Cloud integration, removing on site hardware as much as possible
    • Modeling of ECMs/energy audits
    • M&V tool to assist with energy consulting
    • Maximize efficiency/margin of managed assets
    • Anomaly/fault detection of managed assets
  • Develop energy as a service (EaaS) model:
    • Own and operate assets, selling usage of hot water, chilled water, or compressed air
    • Commercial structure needs to be set up to minimize risk (minimum usage fee, subscription fee, and pass-through $/ton, $BTU, /CFM)
    • Utilize efficiency upgrades and energy management structure to increase margins
  • Expand ECMs to include ORC, geothermal, and other emerging technologies
  • Leverage installed base to increase energy flexibility on a larger scale

General and Task Management:

  • Implement a customer focused operational culture delivering world class customer service levels
  • Support project management to cross functional activity required for project execution
  • Set key short-term and long-term business targets, with board approval
  • Report on KPIs to the Board and Upper Management
  • Identify and implement business growth strategies

Human Resources Management:

  • Act as the main point of contact between TICA Board of Directors and Kiltech employees
  • Build a team and restructure OD model to support growth
  • Provide leadership as well as coaching, mentoring and development of the direct reports and other members to manage a high performing team that delivers continuous improvement, added value and cost reductions
  • Establish strategy and best practices for staff to ensure achievement of overall business objectives.
  • Working closely with the HR Manager to set department objectives and monitor ongoing progress and performance
  • Provide leadership, co-ordination and coaching to the team, ensuring they are trained to enable them to achieve the operational and financial metrics within their areas of responsibility and succeed in their roles

Financial Management:

  • Responsible for monthly, quarterly, and annual financial performance of the Kiltech business unit (revenue, gross profit, G&A, warranty, etc)
  • Working with the CFO and Chief Executive Officer to prepare the annual budget and forecasts and all Capital Expenditure proposals as well as ensuring compliance with legal standards. Manage the budget from identification to completion of projects.
  • Ensure yearly growth in EBITA and revenue
  • Balance investments and profitability for future growth

Relationship Management:

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure optimal performance
  • Report on Kiltech activities on a regular basis to the Senior Management team, ensuring accurate and timely reporting of the relevant Key Performance Indicators.
  • Work collaboratively, negotiate, and engage with key stakeholders to facilitate delivery and compliance with the Kiltech strategy

About the Position

The Lead Energy Market Analyst, part of the Americas – Data and Insights team, will support Energy Exemplar's growth in North America by identifying customer use cases, shaping go-to-market strategies, and providing thought leadership.   • Hands on modeling experience in several ISOs (eg ERCOT)
  • Experience with nodal power flow modeling and ability to discuss nodal concept such as LMPs, congestion, contingencies, LODF, etc.
  • Self-Starter and ability to work independently
  • 7+ years of experience with direct Energy Modeling and Power Market Analysis
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to research and learn new techniques

Role Overview

Under the leadership of an Engagement Manager and/or an Associate Principal, Trindent Senior Consultants apply their expertise to review client processes and identify improvement avenues that will enhance client productivity. Senior Consultants are accountable for producing key project deliverables such as process analysis/ observations, data scrubbing, MOS critiques, dashboard developments, behavioural assessments, area profiles, audits, amongst others. By utilizing Trindents proven methodology and tools, Senior Consultants deliver sustainable results and build lasting client relationships.

Senior Consultants spend most of their time working on client sites with anyone from frontline employees to C-Suite Executives, interacting and influencing key stakeholders.

Travel and Visa Requirements

Travel to client sites is a requirement of this role. Candidates must have a flexible travel schedule.

Consultants may be assigned to work in either North America (Canada and the United States) or Europe and must qualify for a work Visa. Successful candidates must be eligible for a TN Visa to work in the USA.

Responsibilities

  • Perform data analysis, process observations and client interviews with the goal of identifying process barriers and opportunities.
  • Perform research, analysis and formulate hypothesis on product, service, and process workflows.
  • Maximize employee skill sets and driving employee accountability throughout key business processes.
  • Critically assess client management systems, forecasting, scheduling, process control, tools, data, inputs, information quality, and reporting mechanisms.
  • Conduct observations, identify areas for improvement, and design tools to enhance managers ability to drive overall profitability of the area.
  • Perform complex financial modeling to express the impact of operational changes in real dollars.
  • Confer with project staff to outline work plans, assign responsibilities and work-stream scope, actively review status reports, and modify schedules or plans as necessary.
  • Adhere to standards to ensure sustainable and predictable results for the client.
  • Establish and maintain effective client engagement with client project team.
  • Coach and mentor client management to adopt changes and actively manage areas.
  • Participate in delivery of training programs and act as a mentor for Consultant-level staff.
  • Perform other responsibilities as required.

Requirements

  • This position is specifically looking for candidates with a background in either Refinery Energy Efficiency, Energy Conservation, or Process Engineering.
  • Bachelors degree in Chemical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Minimum 5 years in the Oil & Gas industry with at least 2 years of experience in managing or improving plant energy efficiency.
  • Experience reporting and optimizing the energy consumption at the refinery (i.e., Energy Intensity Index).
  • Experience maintaining energy management system and EII prediction tools.
  • Experience conducting pinch analysis.
  • Experience improving efficiency of fired heater and boilers.
  • Experience managing refinery steam production and balance.
  • Working knowledge in tools such as Aveva PROII, Aspen HYSYS, SagePlus, etc.
  • Advanced proficiency in data mining and data analysis skills in Excel.
  • Proficiency in and knowledge of MS Office Suite.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work well with clients and colleagues.
  • Ability to work in ambiguous situations, remain flexible, and to successfully adapt to a variety of working environments.
  • Superior numeracy, problem solving, and relationship building skills.
  • Clear understanding and following of business ethics and professionalism.
  • Working experience in an implementation-based management consulting firm is considered an asset.
  • Skillset using HTRI software is considered an asset.
  • Technical skills in monitoring and troubleshooting of various heat exchangers is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of processes improvement methodologies with a focus on operational KPIs, active management, and continuous process improvement is considered an asset.
  • Experience with the following process: Process Analysis/ Observations, Data Scrubbing, MOS Critiques, Dashboard Developments, Behavioural Assessments, Area Profiles, Audits, KPI Grids, RACI Charts is considered an asset.
  • Availability/ flexibility for frequent travel.
  • Located near a major airport.
