The Wind Turbine Technician will travel to support various scopes of work across Canada. The technician must be competent and qualified to work on wind turbines. Here's what you will do as a Wind Technician:

  • 100% Travel, with an approximate 35:10 onsite to offsite ratio.
  • Climb wind turbines (upwards of 130m) to perform diagnostic testing, installation, troubleshooting, maintenance and repairs to mechanical, electrical and hydraulic components/systems.
  • Complete various reports, checklists, and hazard analysis as it pertains to job scope.
  • Participate in company and customer HSE/training programs.
  • Deliver exceptional customer experience/service to our partners in the industry.
  • Follow all Health and Safety policies to maintain a zero-incident workplace
  • Scheduled maintenance of Wind Turbine Generators including: inspection, greasing, cleaning, torqueing and tensioning of bolted connections
  • Apply LOTO
  • Electrical Troubleshooting
  • Hydraulic Troubleshooting
  • Follow and implement work procedures for specific scopes of work to inspect, repair and maintain Wind Turbine components
  • Populate, track and communicate client and company documentation on a daily basis
  • Maintain a clean work area, equipment and tooling
  • Perform other daily work requirements as directed by Site Management
  • Maintain required training certifications for position (Fall Protection/Rescue Training,, LOTO, First Aid/CPR/AED) etc.

Responsibilities & Expectations:

We are seeking Wind Field Service Technicians to perform wind turbine and factory generator and motor repair and testing, including bearing replacement, grease application, slip ring and grounding ring maintenance, up-tower winding repair, machining, and electrical lead cable replacements. While training is available, a mechanical background (e.g., auto, diesel, industrial, aviation, welding, electrical, electromechanical, machining) is highly preferred and can lead to advancement opportunities.

The Wind Field Service Technician will be responsible for servicing, diagnosing, and repairing generators and generator components up tower. Our ideal candidate is highly skilled in repairs and dedicated to delivering exceptional customer experience. This role offers the chance to enhance your professional growth in a rapidly growing industry.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  •  Perform maintenance tasks on wind generators, such as bearing replacements, and addressing slip ring and grounding ring issues. 
  • Conduct up tower winding repairs, measurements of critical dimensions, and up tower machining. 
  • Assist in the disassembly and installation of electric motors and generators on-site. 
  • Safely lift, tighten, adjust, and secure heavy objects to facilitate work duties. 
  • Execute intermediate-level maintenance and troubleshooting tasks for wind turbines. 
  • Collect and accurately document information on turbine performance and issues. 
  • Diagnose routine problems, provide recommendations, and implement solutions. 
  • Follow structured troubleshooting processes and effectively use diagnostic tools. 
  • Proficiently utilize specialized tools and equipment, accurately documenting tasks, and data. 
  • Seek assistance for complex issues beyond personal expertise. 
  • Work independently with limited supervision, following instructions and maintenance schedules. 
  • Adhere to safety standards, identify potential gaps and risks, and implement effective mitigation measures. 
  • Excel in a fast-paced environment, adhering to standardized work procedures and applying strong analytical problem-solving skills within a continuous improvement framework. 
  • Assist in on-site inspection, testing, and reconditioning of electric motors and generators as directed by the Lead Technician. 

Qualifications and Competencies:

  • Willingness to travel extensively, including weekends, as well as work overtime to meet business objectives. 
  • Possession of a valid Driver's License and maintenance of an acceptable driving record according to IPS company policy. 
  • Proficiency in mathematical functions such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, and percentages. 
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities, while following written and verbal instructions. 
  • Excellent attention to detail and a strong ability to meticulously follow instructions.

Qulliq Energy Corporation

Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) is entrusted to provide safe, reliable power to all customers in Nunavut. Owned by the Government of Nunavut and operated as an arms-length territorial corporation, QEC is the sole provider of electricity and district heating in Nunavut. In comparison to other utilities in Canada, QEC faces unique challenges as it operates 25 stand-alone diesel power generation facilities and distribution systems located in each of the territory's communities.

Manager, Alternative & Renewable Energy (QEC-25-008)

Iqaluit, Nunavut

Reporting to the Director of Engineering, the Manager, Alternative & Renewable Energy (ARE) is responsible for the research, planning, and managing ARE initiatives and programs. The position supports the execution of ARE projects by providing engineering support in areas such as planning, design, technical analysis, and conducting research. The position also provides technical advice, support, and recommendations to stakeholders as required through designated renewable/alternative energy resources.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee ARE staff and coordinate with other jurisdictions / utilities for developing ARE plan and program for the Corporation to meet QEC/GN mandate for reducing dependency on fossil fuel.
  • Manage NMP (Net Metering Program), CIPP (Commercial and Institutional Power Producer), and IPP (Independent Power Producer) program.
  • Provide recommendations for higher management regarding ARE initiatives.
  • Respond to requests for information from the media re: renewable energy initiatives, etc.
  • Keep track of all projects and resources, as well as reporting internally and externally.
  • Closely work with Finance and Operations to ensure program effectiveness and to improve efficiency and liaison with Federal and Territorial Government agencies.
  • Oversee design and development of new and existing ARE initiatives including stamping designs.
  • Prepare Requests for Tender (RFT) / Request for Proposal (RFP) for ARE projects and ensures effective projects execution.
  • Any other ad hoc duties as required.

Required Qualifications Include:

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical / mechanical engineering.
  • Experience in ARE project management in Utility sector.
  • Registered Professional Engineer (P. Eng), with immediate eligibility for registration with NAPEG.
  • Seven years of ARE project management experience in a utility.
  • Two years of experience in the supervision and development of staff.

Assets:

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) designation is an asset.
  • Experience in full scope project management, from inception to commissioning an asset.
  • Knowledge of power system analysis software such as ETAP, HOMER, RETScreen are assets.
  • Experience in a utility environment is an asset.

A combination of education and equivalent experience may be considered.

We offer a competitive starting salary range of $149,128.02 to $79,392.80 and a northern living allowance of 16,008.00 per annum. We also offer a comprehensive benefits package, including a defined-benefit pension program. Accommodation is not guaranteed at this point. Will be allocated when available. This position is not included in the Nunavut Employee's Union.

Preference will be given to Nunavut Inuit.
