To provide engineered access solutions for BrandSafway's Applications, with a specific focus on construction hoist and its run-back platform structures in addition to other access systems. Under general supervision, the Engineer II performs a variety of engineering work requiring the application of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria in carrying out a sequence of related engineering tasks. In addition, the Engineer II plans and designs products, tools, and equipment within the provided framework. Incumbents receive structured guidance regarding required tasks and expected results. Tasks typically relate to design, test, verification and reliability of mechanical and electromechanical food service products and systems. This is an intermediate to senior-level position.
Reporting to the Mgr., Engineering, this position is 100% based in our Mississauga, Ontario facility. This is a full-time, permanent role that is an addition to headcount.
**Major Accountability:**
- Lead and contribute to new product designs, product improvements, and test analysis, while serving as a liaison across production and service teams.
- Prepare and deliver technical documentation including analysis reports, performance evaluations, schedules, and cost estimates.
- Manage individual projects end-to-end: plan, coordinate resources, track progress, and ensure delivery on time and within budget.
- Take full ownership of assigned work, proactively driving projects forward and resolving issues independently.
- Ensure timely and cost-effective development of product designs, including components, materials, bills of materials (BOMs), and assembly instructions for commercial equipment.
- Execute engineering tasks across the full lifecycle: research, design, testing, and implementation.
- Proficiency in SolidWorks is a must
**Key Tasks & Responsibilities:**
- Develop product designs by preparing concept sketches, detailed drawings, design models, and specification documents.
- Conduct root cause analysis, test performance evaluations, and prepare schedule and cost estimates as needed.
- Generate progress reports, feasibility studies, and concept evaluations to support project decisions.
- Assist in the creation of manuals and sales literature for assigned projects.
- Provide engineering support to cross-functional teams including production, service, quality, and marketing.
- Build prototypes and sample units for performance evaluation and agency-related testing.
- Manage sub-systems for commercial cooking equipment throughout the full lifecycle: concept, design, validation, and implementation.
- Analyze field issues using standard problem resolution tools such as 8D.
- Own and manage engineering changes related to completed work.
- Demonstrate basic proficiency with small tools for prototype builds and test setups; electrical wiring experience is a plus.
- Participate in field test setup and monitoring, which may include international travel.
**Qualifications**
- **Specialized Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities**
- Knowledgeable of fundamental engineering principles concepts, practices and procedures of a field of specialization.
- Understands design theory and has demonstrated the ability to read and prepare drawings.
- **Education and Experience**
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering in Mechanical Engineering
- 2-4 years of experience required.
- **Working Conditions**
- Heavy computer use.
