Position summary:
Under the supervision of the Property Manager, the Building Maintenance position, internally called the Caretaker, is responsible for regular building checks of each property in the regions to ensure they meet the quality standards Makola sets. The focus of the role will be to pick up garbage around the buildings, posting notices if needed, maintaining basic building mechanical systems, assisting with unit turnovers and inspections, and participating in the on-call rotation for after hours calls. This role will also perform minor repairs in units and buildings that may include, but are not limited to, touch up painting, patching drywall, recalking plumbing fixtures well. The successful candidate will be aware and sensitive to the housing needs of the Indigenous and Non-Indigenous people. The Caretaker will ensure Makola is represented in a professional, responsible, and respectful way at all times.
This position is permanent full-time, 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday from 8:30 am - 4:30 pm.

Requirements:
3+ years of experience in building maintenance
Working knowledge of applied trades such as electrical, plumbing, or carpentry (no ticket required)
Strong time management and prioritization skills
Experience and skilled at using MS Office as well as an iPad
Ability to relay information in a calm, polite and respectful manner to community members
Experience working with Indigenous communities considered an asset

Must possess a valid Class 5 Drivers License, Clean Drivers Abstract
Have a reliable vehicle to carry tools and for hauling supplies

PROFILE SUMMARY
The Building Maintenance Technician (PDS) of GN Corporations Inc. (GN) is a full-time position, responsible for conducting general maintenance, repairs and inspections on facility equipment and property structures, both interior and exterior.
SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS
Clean interior & exterior of the building, as well as industrial machinery and equipment.
Perform routine building maintenance duties, including painting, minor electrical repairs, plumbing, carpentry, and heating and ventilation systems maintenance.
Assist service technicians and machine operators during equipment preventive maintenance and rigging tasks.
Keep inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment, and report needs to maintenance manager.
Operate Industrial equipment including overhead cranes, floor scrubber, lawn tractor, telehandler, snow blower, forklift and aerial platform as needed.
Drive company vehicles as needed.
Attending health and safety training pertaining to the job scope.
Comply with health and safety regulations.
Complete administrative duties, such as filling out forms, monitoring online requests, and reporting maintenance statuses to management.
Complete fire system and building perimeter inspections reports as defined.
Respond to emergency calls for maintenance and repairs.
Work with and maintain relationships with contracted suppliers.

Le contremaître d’entretien d’édifice est responsable de l’entretien quotidien des installations de tous les biens appartenant à la ville et exploités par elle. Dans cette fonction, vous serez responsable de coordonner la planification et l’exécution des activités d’entretien des bâtiments avec un personnel syndiqué qui relève directement de vous.
La personne idéale possédera les qualités suivantes :
- Un diplôme d’études secondaires ou l’équivalent ainsi que des études postsecondaires ou un (des) certificat(s) d’une école de métiers
- Un certificat d’ouvrier spécialisé dans l’un des domaines suivants : plomberie, chauffage et réfrigération, électrique, charpenterie.
- Un permis de conduire de classe 5.
- Un minimum de 3 à 5 années d’expérience progressive en voirie ou en activités opérationnelles
- 3 à 5 ans d’expérience dans un rôle de superviseur.
- Confiance dans l’utilisation d’ordinateurs et de divers logiciels, ainsi que des compétences en mathématiques
- Des compétences exceptionnelles en service à la clientèle et la capacité de communiquer de façon professionnelle oralement et par écrit
Remarque : Une combinaison jugée acceptable d’études et d’expérience pourrait être prise en considération lors de la sélection de candidats si l’acquisition des compétences requises peut être démontrée.

ACCOUNTABILITY STATEMENT:
The Buildings Maintenance Operator is responsible for ensuring safe and efficient facility operations maintaining all buildings under the Northlander Facilities Management portfolio.
MAJOR DUTIES/ RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Utilizes the Maintenance ticket system to log all maintenance request details, including regular updating and closing of tickets
- Scope of work to include, but not limited to, filter maintenance, minor internal construction, ceiling tiles, doors and locks, window repair, moves, grounds keeping, loading dock(s), lighting, sinks, toilets, energy and elevators
- Verifies and records daily operation of facilities equipment and assists in maintenance of boilers, compressors, HVAC equipment, building mechanicals, elevators, lighting and security
- Coordinate outside contractors (ex. plumbers, electricians, carpenters, painters, etc.) on a daily basis to provide services including, but not limited to, janitorial, grounds keeping, snow removal, painting, installing flooring, windows and doors, window washing, carpet cleaning and all other approved projects
- Assembles, moves, retrieves and stores records, boxes, furniture, stationery and related office supplies and peripherals
- Maintains cleanliness of work area
- Work with Health and Safety Committee, fire plan, monitor two-way radios, order and install Health and Safety supplies (first aid, eye wash, stretchers)
- Provide other support and assistance to the Northlander and Corporate Facilities Department as required
- Travel to outlying areas to service buildings and structures as required
REQUIREMENTS:
- Certificate in Building Environmental Systems (BES)
- 1-2 years’ work experience in property maintenance
- Experience in general contracting
- Broad knowledge of carpentry, electrical, mechanical and plumbing
- Knowledge of Ontario building codes and permits
- Must be able to perform basic/light maintenance duties including custodial and painting
- Experience with Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) or Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS)
- Strong working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Valid driver’s license
- Flexibility to be on call 24/7
- Commitment to Health & Safety.
