Position summary:

As the Environmental Service Aide/ Housekeeper you are responsible and accountable for providing direct support to the surgical unit and PACU to facilitate the processing of patients. The Housekeeper will act in accordance with policies and procedures for proper care and maintenance of the facility and its equipment. The Housekeeper must have a comprehensive understanding of safety regulations related to cleaning products and demonstrate a professional and caring approach in dealing with clients, co-workers and supervisors.

Responsibilities include:

Overall Cleaning of OR & PACU Areas, including but not limited to OR, SPD, Staff Change Areas, Storage Areas, Patient Rooms, Bathrooms, Hallways and Administration as required.

This includes:

  • Perform cleaning of the Operating Room (OR) between cases and complete terminal cleaning of the OR and equipment at the end of each day.
  • Clean and disinfect patient rooms, furniture, and equipment, including making beds for the next patient. Restock supplies such as towels, soap, blankets, and other necessities in patient rooms and bathrooms.
  • Collect soiled laundry from patient rooms and recovery areas.
  • Dust mop PACU floors daily and respond to incidents requiring spot cleaning as needed.
  • Clean and disinfect all OR and PACU floors and surfaces following established cleaning methods and procedures.
  • Dust and polish hospital furniture and equipment, clean mirrors and windows, and polish fittings and fixtures.
  • Distribute clean linen and surgical scrubs to designated areas.
  • Secure post-operative beverages for patients.
  • Maintain and monitor inventory levels of cleaning supplies, equipment, and linen, ensuring adequate stock is available.
  • Mix cleaning liquids and chemicals in proper quantities, adhering to safety regulations.
  • Keep cleaning equipment and supplies organized and stored appropriately.
  • Properly collect and dispose of surgical waste in compliance with Hospital policies.

The Housekeeper with the assistance of the other members of the will also be responsible to complete the following tasks:

  • Maintain constant awareness of the hospital's cleanliness, maintenance, and repair needs.
  • Conduct weekly terminal cleaning of the unit, including windows and walls.
  • Perform weekly terminal cleaning of all equipment.
  • Handle garbage disposal and clear snow from entryways when necessary.
  • Notify the Nurse Manager of any cleaning equipment in need of repair or replacement or any building hazards, and assist in addressing such issues.
  • Perform other tasks as required to maintain the Surgical Centre cleanliness and functionality

Qualifications:

  • Understanding of safety regulations related to cleaning products
  • Must be fluent in written and verbal English, and possess good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Must be capable of working under pressure and performing a wide range of duties that may require independent action.
  • Must be proactive, cooperative, and alert, accept directions, and be able to function as a team member.

Physical Requirements

The work environment is very physically demanding and may require different levels of physical exertion, including you may need to lift/push/pull more than 20 pounds. This position may demand standing long hours walking and bending.

**This position is represented by a collective bargaining agreement. There may be more than one opening on this posting.**
**Job Summary**
This position is responsible for the cleaning and sanitizing rooms, floors, fixtures and furnishings in assigned work area following established policies and procedures. Also responsible for performing other miscellaneous housekeeping duties such as replenishing supplies.
**Essential Functions**
+ Ensure that assigned areas are cleaned and disinfected according to departmental procedures. This may include dusting; mopping; vacuuming; spot cleaning carpets; washing walls, ceilings, furniture and fixtures; emptying trash; restocking supplies; washing and making beds.
+ May set up furniture in conference rooms.
+ Maintain housekeeping cart, restock paper receptacles, replace sharps containers, and orders supplies essential to the job. Clean and store equipment properly.
+ Respond to emergency cleaning needs or housekeeping requires in a timely manner.
+ In clinical areas, communicate with clinical personnel to determine priority of cleaning needs.
+ Performs other duties as assigned.
**Qualifications**
**Education**
+ High School Diploma Preferred: or equivalent
**Experience**
+ Minimum of 1 year Preferred: Formal housekeeping experience and
+ Preferred: Experience in hospital or healthcare setting
**Credentials**
+ May be required: Drivers License
**Skills**
+ Basic verbal and written communication skills (Required)
+ Ability to work independently without direct supervision (Required)
+ Strong customer service skills (Required)
+ Basic computer skills (Required)

+ Based on business needs and management approval, sometimes uses lead access to CareConnect.
+ Based on position assignment including travel to offsite locations, may be required to maintain a current unrestricted Driver's License. Required for Environmental Svcs at LCR Delaware Campus.
