Job Overview:  BEST is looking for a self-motivated individual to help us develop and implement an environment friendly program, ensure personnel are properly training for environmental hazards, and over see environmental health and safety audits.

Job Location:  Kitchener, ON

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Inspect and sort all types of waste streams using proper PPE to create diversity reports
  • Conduct annual waste audits, sample collection, perform or coordinate physical waste sort, gather waste management data for other sustainability reports. 
  • Gather waste management data to support other sustainability reports throughout the year
  • Oversee Support the Environmental Sustainability Coordinator in engaging faculty, staff and students in waste management initiatives
  • Monitor waste management programs and infrastructure across campuses and support implementation of improvements and upgrades as necessary
  • Support the transition to centralized waste management systems across campuses
  • Be a liaison between the Facilities department and Custodial Services to ensure the waste management plan remains a priority for custodial staff and they are empowered to implement and maintain it as necessary
  • Visit campuses and sites to evaluate and monitor waste management program successes/challenges and report to Facilities on recommended improvements
  • Work with the Environmental Sustainability Coordinator to identify gaps in existing waste management programs, and identify new opportunities to increase waste diversion rate
  • Support the implementation of new waste management programs as they arise
  • Support daily waste management requests, including coordination of waste hauler and secure document shredding services, delivery of waste bins and other supplies to various campuses, and invoice validation
  • Monitor field work to ensure compliance with company standards, procedures specifications and codes and advise and educate staff on environmental issues and programs
  • Support the Environmental Sustainability Coordinator in engaging faculty, staff and students in waste management and other sustainability initiatives through workshops, training, development of social media content
  • Support the ongoing operations of existing waste management programs and work closely by attending meetings with the Sustainability Committee on campus
  • Support updating policies and procedures to achieve waste diversion goals

Knowledge and Skills Required:

  • Diploma or Degree in Environmental Science or Environmental Engineering
  • Waste auditing experience and/or certification is required
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Able to work in a diverse environment
  • Must have a valid Drivers Licence

  • Has reliable transportation and a valid G or G2 driver's license (mandatory)

  • Exceptional organizational skills 
  • Completion or current enrollment in OHHA or CAEM is preferred
  • TDG and WHMIS Certification Required

The Environmental Services Manager reports to the General Manager and performs general, routine maintenance and servicing operations throughout the facility, in accordance with applicable codes and regulations and as directed by the General Manager.

Responsibilities:

  • Is responsible to oversee and execute all aspects of the Maintenance department,
  • As directed and in accordance with applicable codes and regulations, performs a variety of routine maintenance, servicing, and repair operations to maintain home, equipment, furnishings, fixtures, and grounds in proper condition,
  • Responsible for effectively scheduling & supervising maintenance and repair work not completed in-house,

Qualifications:

  • Basic knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems, plumbing and carpentry,
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written,
  • Skilled in conflict management techniques,

  • Demonstrated experience in managing a budget,

We are looking for a mid-level Project Environmental Engineer, Geologist, Scientist, or Technologist to join our expanding Alberta Site Investigation and Remediation (SIR) team. This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to and lead the execution of SIR field projects across Alberta and the Northwest Territories. Under the guidance of exceptional project managers, this role offers the opportunity to contribute to and collaborate with a cohesive, highly skilled team of environmental professionals.
**Your Key Responsibilities**
* Promote a strong health and safety culture and actively participate in Stantec's Health and Safety Program.
* Create and lead a positive safety culture on all projects.
* Work with Project Managers to develop field instructions and coordinate field scopes of work with Stantec staff and subcontractors.
* Complete SIR field tasks including but not limited to, Phase I ESA site visits, soil sampling, groundwater monitoring and sampling, soil vapour sampling, aquifer conductivity testing, and elevation surveying.
* Confidently oversee SIR field activities, including but not limited to, drilling and monitoring well installation, remedial excavations, and other construction tasks.
* Provide training and mentoring to more junior staff as field lead.
* Write technical reports including data analysis and interpretation with Alberta Tier 1 and Tier 2 Soil and Groundwater Remediation Guidelines.
**Your Capabilities and Credentials**
* Dedicated to working safely within established procedures and protocols.
* Adaptability, organization, critical thinking, self-motivation, a keen willingness to learn, a love of the outdoors, attention to detail, succinct writing ability, and ability to multitask.
* Strong communication skills and the ability to identify issues in the field while working with senior staff to develop solutions.
* Proficiency with standard productivity software including all MSOffice products
* Additional skills such as current First Aid training, WHMIS, H2S Alive, UTV operator training, water and soils sampling, mechanical aptitude and experience in the field of Environmental Science or Engineering are assets but are not required.
* Able to obtain federal reliability security clearance.
* Passion for working in an outdoor environment.
* Able to travel to remote locations via air or ground transportation and work up to 12 hours per day.
* Able to travel and mobilize to sites on minimal notice.
* Able to work 70 - 85% in the field during peak field season, including out of town work and overnight stays in hotels or a camp setting
**Education and Experience**
Bachelor's degree or diploma in environmental engineering, geology, hydrogeology, environmental science, or related field.
Minimum of three (3) years executing field work related to soil, groundwater, and/or soil vapor investigations.
Prior experience in an engineering or consulting environment is an asset.
This position will involve a combination of field and office work. Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods. Fieldwork may include travel (road or air) and exposure to the elements including inclement weather. Evening and weekend work may be required. Ability to lift and move items and equipment up to 50 lbs.

Job Description

How You’ll Make an Impact:   

  • Ensure all housekeeping is carried out in accordance with Sodexo health and safety policies.
  • Audit and provide monitoring for your team as well as support all training for their shifts:
  • Coordinate activities of housekeeping employees engaged in cleaning within a very busy environment.
  • Assist in ensuring a safe working environment throughout the facility for all employees and guests
  • Assist in monitoring employee productivity and provides suggestions for increased service or productivity
  • Ensure health and safety policies are followed and implemented.
  • Perform daily inspection of rooms, common areas and general areas in the hospital.
  • Perform day to day assignments in addition to lead duties
  • Work with customers to ensure satisfaction in such areas as quality, service, and issue resolution
Qualifications

What You’ll Need to Succeed:  

  • 2+ years of Supervisory experience required
  • Environmental Services experience required 
  • Healthcare environment experience is preferred
  • Proven ability to provide quality audits and training
  • Must have exceptional organizational skills
  • Completion or current enrollment in OHHA or CAEM is preferred
  • TDG, WHMIS Certification Required
