Summary
The Fixed Equipment Engineer at Celanese Canada ULC supports all maintenance activities at the Edmonton facility. The primary goals are to minimize equipment downtime through effective maintenance support, uphold and improve safety for all maintenance activities, and ensure equipment is maintained in the safest way possible to preserve the mechanical integrity of process handling equipment.
Responsibilities
- Provide support to maintenance technicians, planners, schedulers, and supervisors in all maintenance activities. This includes performing calculations, developing equipment repair scopes, ensuring timely equipment repair, and creating equipment repair documentation.
- Develop creative repair strategies for unique equipment.
- Provide technical oversight of the Maintenance Quality Control Work Process to ensure maintenance quality.
- Offer technical support and oversight for equipment repair and fabrication standards (e.g., piping fabrication codes, valve selection specifications, maintenance manuals, refurbishment specifications).
- Perform mechanical design and associated calculations to create or alter existing maintenance equipment and chemical handling equipment.
- Provide recommendations and guidance to Reliability and Operations departments regarding maintenance prioritization and equipment needs.
- Assist the Inspections Group with equipment repair when mechanical damage is found during inspections.
- Participate in the Management of Change (MOC) process to ensure site changes are performed safely, and all required follow-up actions are identified and completed.
- Communicate with equipment vendors, repair contractors, and original equipment manufacturers to repair and upgrade equipment.
- Provide official fabrication drawings, engineering specifications, and tolerances to maintenance personnel during fabrication and refurbishment activities.
- Furnish official Replacement in Kind (RIK) / Replacement within Specification (RWS) documents to maintenance personnel during repair of existing assets.
- Offer clarification to maintenance personnel when confusion arises during maintenance, such as:
- Fastener assembly torque / pre-load
- Appropriate parts to be installed
- Acceptable gaps, fits, clearances, etc.
- Provide specifications to oilers for acceptable machinery lubricants.
- Provide maintenance records and recommendations to Reliability and Operations as required.
- Engage Reliability as needed for consultation and authentication across all relevant activities.
- Route changes through the Management of Change (MOC) process as required for all relevant activities.

- Develop and optimize continuous production and manufacturing processes to achieve the output, quality, and cost goals of the organization.
