- Develops and supervises the Heavy Equipment Mechanic Apprentice throughout the apprenticeship phase.
- Manages the Equipment status report along with updating equipment service intervals to ensure all equipment is maintained as required.
- Manages and liaises with vendors and secure favorable pricing of parts and services; initiates purchase orders.
**Qualifications**
- Minimum 2 years as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic or similar experience
- Experience in aviation ground support equipment maintenance considered an asset
- Must possess a Heavy Duty Mechanic Journeymen certification or equivalent preferred
- Fabrication experience
- Expert in the use of maintenance and work order practices
- Strong and diverse mechanical knowledge
- Capable of coordinating maintenance efforts both alone and in a team environment
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong computer background including experience with MS Word, Excel, Outlook

Work Description
The Heavy Equipment Mechanic ensures timely mechanical repairs on equipment for Taggart Construction projects. Repairs are recorded according to shop practices and comply with Health and Safety policy
Major Responsibilities:
- Diagnose, repair, and maintain heavy duty equipment.
- Complete documentation accurately and on time.
- Communicate with Forepersons and Superintendents regarding repair urgency and needs.
- Coordinate with Equipment Manager in Ottawa for updates and delivery dates.
- Perform preventative maintenance on all equipment.
- Perform other duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Minimum three years' experience in hydraulic and hystat repair and maintenance.
- Experience with bulldozers, cranes, graders, tractors, off-road haulers, and earth movers.
- Journeyman certification preferred or Heavy-Duty Equipment Mechanic (421A)).
- In-depth knowledge of heavy equipment.
- Mechanical and mathematical aptitude.
- Attention to detail.
- Physical strength and stamina (lifting up to 40 lbs).
- Openness to learning new technologies and techniques.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Valid drivers license.
Work Environment
- May require working outdoors and on-site in difficult weather conditions.
