The Calgary TELUS Convention Centre is looking to hire a casual Event Crew Member in our Event Services Department.
Reporting to the Manager, Event Services and Housekeeping Services, and/or Team Lead, Event Services, this position is responsible for the day-to-day setup, teardown, and cleaning of events and public space in the Centre.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Setting up and tearing down furniture, staging, and equipment within event areas and public spaces for meetings, banquets, tradeshows, and internal requirements. To include but not limited to tables, chairs, couches, linens, risers, table and riser skirting, water stations, garbage cans, coat racks, whiteboards, mirrors, pads of paper and pens, plants, pipe and drape, carpet, and other miscellaneous equipment.
- Cleaning, light maintenance, and garbage removal duties in meeting rooms, exhibition halls, banquet halls, pre-function spaces, storage areas, service corridors, and public spaces.
- Internal and client freight and material handling.
- Operation of moveable wall systems to divide meeting rooms.
- Operation of forklift, aerial lift, and snow removal equipment.
- Monitoring move-in and move-out of clients and audio/visual on North and South loading docks.
- Repair and maintenance of Event Services equipment.
- Assisting with inventory management.
- Assisting the Maintenance Department with snow removal, repairs, painting, and other light maintenance duties as assigned.
- Requirement to work flexible and overtime hours as required.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to speak, read, write, and follow oral and written instructions in English.

- Previous function set-up experience would be a definite asset.
- Forklift experience and certification would be a definite asset.

- Physically fit to have the ability to lift up to 75 lbs. (equipment) and push/pull a maximum of 798 lbs.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Events: Set up/Tear down of Rentals and Events:
- Completes set-up and tear-down requirements including moving geos, blocks, tables, linens, and stage with direction from Special Event and Technical staff.
- Assists with technical set-up/ tear-down.
- Cleans before, during, and after an event including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, auto scrubber, wiping surfaces, laundry, garbage & recycling removal, and other duties that are unique to each event.
Events: Desk Attendant:
- Serves as primary ambassador to the THEMUSEUM, welcoming guests, answering phones, directing inquiries, providing orientation and information about the event, processing payments, etc.
- Demonstrate ability to react positively to visitor feedback and to manage conflict effectively.
- Counts and clicks all guests into the building.
- Unlocks/locks doors at the beginning/end of the event.
- Ensures only guests at the event are in the building.
Events: Bartender Back
- Set-up and tear down tables, linens, glassware, ice, troughs, garbage/recycling, etc.
- Ensure drinks are ready to go for the event and that there is enough ice to last for the entire event.
- Restocks bar throughout the night.
- Keeps the area organized.
- Follows Smart Serve.
- Find empty glassware and return to bar, run dishwasher, and polish glasses
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
