What you will be doing

  • Stay ahead of pending legislation and regulatory mandates, crafting compliance strategies and effectively communicating these throughout the organization
  • Collaborate with line and project management on regulatory compliance, incident reporting, and case management
  • Spearhead safety training programs, ensuring relevance, compliance, and effectiveness

What we would like from you

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in H&S roles, including industry experience in construction or oil and gas
  • A Bachelor's degree in health and safety or the equivalent combination of experience
  • National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) designation and ACSA Auditor certification, or ability to obtain within 1 year
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and related software applications
  • Strong leadership, communication, and presentation skills, with a focus on ethical, collaborative relationship-building
  • Commitment to spending 50% of time in the field to engage frontline personnel and promote a culture of safety
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% of the time

Location and other key details:

  • This is a full-time, permanent position based out of our Calgary Corporate Office
  • Standard hours are Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week, with occasional additional hours as business needs arise  
  • Must be available to respond to emergencies during non-business hours
  • Daily travel to the field locations and occasional overnight travel may be required

The Health & Safety Coordinator will help to support the regional Health & Safety Manager and regional business team in implementation of health and safety management systems and processes. In this role, you will provide health and safety guidance to the operations to help the region comply with Amrize Standards, Country level policies, and jurisdictional regulations. Serving as a strategic business partner, you will provide technical subject matter expertise and guidance on hazard recognition and risk mitigation controls through active engagement with front line leaders and workers. This role works out of our Edmonton Ellwood office.
**WHAT YOU'LL ACCOMPLISH**
+ Provide direct health and safety coaching to the operational site level leadership, and safety committee representatives and embedded safety personnel
+ Assist with facilitation and coordination of training including annual startups, supervisor seminars, Visual Personal Commitment, Boots on the Ground program, etc.
+ Perform risk assessments and develop safe work procedures for regional and country purposes, and provide guidance and support to operations to meet OHS and company expectations.
+ Assist with serious incident investigations including recordable injuries, near misses, critical incidents, and help the company comply with OHS inspections and potential orders.
+ Plan, coordinate, and conduct annual COR audits, support regional operations in preparation for company Health, Safety, Environment Management System (HSEMS) audits, develop action plans for continuous improvement, and participate in North America HSEMS audits identifying compliance gaps against company health and safety standards.
+ Support HS Manager and regional operations in development and implementation of H&S priorities, guidance documents, key lessons learned, best practices, policies, and assist in implementation of both country and regional HSE-IP objectives.
+ Support and guide regional operations in claim management and injury prevention, and assist with utilization of internal reporting tools to meet country reporting requirements.
+ Support regional operations in implementation and maintenance of programs such as SiteDocs, iCare, Avetta, etc.
+ Assist in developing and sharing regional communications to all stakeholders including key lessons, best practices, alerts, and KPIs.
+ Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to health, safety and environmental policies in all work environments and areas. Promote a culture of safety and exhibit these behaviors.
**WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR**
**Education:** Post-secondary certificate, diploma or degree
**Field of Study Preferred:** Occupational Health & Safety
**Required Work Experience:** 3-5 years working experience as a health & safety professional, preferably in the construction industry
**Required Training/Certifications:** CSO/NCSO, COR auditor certification, CRSP preferred (or eligible)
**Required Technical Skills:** MS Office, Google Suite

**A day in the life:**
+ You will provide active HSSE leadership by participation, leading by example, and demonstrating interest in the health and safety program; you will set a good example for workers by attitude, conduct, and compliance with safety requirements.
+ You will suspend any operation that threatens the health or safety of workers or the public, and immediately notify the Superintendent and H&S Manager.
+ You will take prudent measures to reduce hazards or to correct unsafe conditions or actions when becoming aware of such unsafe or potentially unsafe work conditions.
+ You will provide for active worker participation in the project H&S Program; you will provide information, instruction, and training to workers necessary for the protection of their health and safety.
+ You will advise an employee of the existence of any potential or actual danger to the health or safety of which project management is aware.
+ You will coordinate WSP H&S Program on multi-employer project sites with all parties, including the Client and subcontractors.
+ You will assess risks and identify, prioritize, and control hazards on the project, prior to starting work activities and during work activities. This includes the preparation of Job Hazard Assessments.

Job Summary

Reporting to the Manager, Health & Safety, the Health & Safety Advisor provides guidance, coaching, and support to ensure compliance with legislation, standards, and best practices while helping to build a strong safety culture.   • Support WSIB claims and return-to-work initiatives through collaboration with management, employees, and healthcare providers.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of the Health, Safety and Environment program and assist with the maintenance of accreditations.
  • Maintain company emergency equipment inventory (first aid kits, fire extinguishers, etc.).

Qualifications
  • 3-5 years of progressive experience in Occupational Health & Safety, ideally in construction.
  • Degree or Diploma in OH&S, Health, Safety & Environmental Management, Safety Engineering, or related discipline (strongly preferred).
  • Strong knowledge of OHSA, workers’ compensation, and construction industry safety standards.

Qualifications

Our Trainers are responsible for facilitating courses virtually and in-person to clients across Ontario. Based on client needs, you will be delivering courses in-person from a client's place of business, from third-party locations or distance-learning from your home office.

The regular schedule is Monday through Friday, with occasional evening and Saturday work. We are seeking a Health and Safety Trainer in Toronto, Cambridge, Mississauga or the surrounding areas. Key Responsibilities: 

  • Facilitate in-person and online training courses to audiences across different industries while applying adult learning principles and best practices. 
  • Leverage any industry knowledge and practical experience to accurately answer participant questions with sensitivity, professionalism, and inclusivity in mind.
  • Ensure administrative requirements are completed accurately and in a timely manner, including timesheets, expenses, etc.
  • Provide feedback to internal teams to ensure seamless, accurate, and meaningful content delivery to clients.

Qualifications: 

  • Post-secondary education in Occupational Health and Safety or related field preferred.
  • 1+ year experience in the Health and Safety Industry, including active participation on a Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) preferred. 
  • Certification in JHSC, First Aid, or Adult Education is considered an asset. 
  • Understanding and knowledge of legislation, including but not limited to the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Canadian Standards Association, the Canada Labour Code, and other applicable Health and Safety regulations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a customer service focus.
  • Proficiency using Google Suite, with demonstrated tech-savviness and willingness and ability to embrace new technologies.
  • Self-starter who can work successfully independently.
  • Valid Ontario Drivers license with unrestricted access to operating a motor vehicle.
  • Ability to travel across Southwestern Ontario, as needed to visit client sites.
  • Home office space with reliable internet access.
  • Clear criminal background check.

This position will require a working knowledge of the mechanical & electrical fields to ensure an adequate understanding of the unique hazards & challenges our employees face. The successful candidate should be familiar with industry guidelines, ESA Code, TSSA Standards & appropriate CSA standards.

Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Conduct safety & environmental audits within the mechanical & electrical operations
  • Inspect worksites to ensure that equipment & materials do not present a safety or health hazard to employees or to the general public to ensure compliance with Company / Client Policy & Legislation
  • Review/perform/complete incident & inspection reports & ensure that corrective action & follow-up is taken
  • Participate in the development and implementation of health & safety programs & strategies related to mechanical & electrical work

  • Provide consultation & deliver training programs to employees on issues of health & safety (ICI)

  • Support and ensure accurate investigation, reporting, & effective cleanup of spills related to the B&M Environmental program.

WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Reporting to the Director of HR, the Health & Safety Specialist is responsible for our safety program at BD Diesel. This role is responsible for developing, implementing, and continuously improving workplace health and safety initiatives to ensure compliance with WorkSafeBC regulations and industry best practices. The ideal candidate will be proactive in identifying risks, educating employees, and fostering a strong safety culture across all departments. As a key resource for the organization, this role will work closely with management, employees, and the Joint Health & Safety Committee (JHSC) to drive safety improvements and prevent workplace incidents.

This role is based in our Abbotsford location and this role is a fully onsite role.

Requirements

· Develop, implement, and maintain the company’s health and safety policies and programs to ensure compliance with WorkSafeBC and other applicable regulations.

· Conduct regular safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments to identify hazards and recommend corrective actions.

· Lead incident investigations, root cause analyses, and corrective action implementation to prevent recurrence.

· Develop and deliver safety training programs, including onboarding safety orientations, hansai meetings, and emergency response training.

· Monitor and Chair the Joint Health & Safety Committee (JHSC), ensuring effectiveness and compliance.

· Maintain records related to workplace training, injuries, incidents, safety audits, and compliance reporting.

· Develop, implement, and oversee equipment inspection protocols, ensuring all tools, machinery, and safety equipment are regularly checked, maintained, and compliant with regulatory standards.

· Establish and manage safety checklists to ensure consistent compliance with safety procedures and best practices across all work areas.

· Assist managers and supervisors in implementing best practices for workplace safety.

· Support ergonomic assessments and initiatives to reduce workplace injuries.

· Stay current with regulatory changes and industry best practices, advising leadership on necessary adjustments.

· Provide safety support and consultation for Burnout Brands’ broader operations, including U.S. locations, as needed.

· Other duties as assigned by your manager.

Education and Experience:

· Minimum 3 years of experience in a health and safety role, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial setting.

· Strong knowledge of WorkSafeBC regulations and other relevant occupational health and safety legislation.

· Certification in Occupational Health & Safety (e.g., CRSP, CHSC, or equivalent) is an asset.

· Experience conducting safety audits, investigations, and risk assessments.

· Strong communication and training skills with the ability to engage employees at all levels.

· Proficiency in Microsoft Office and safety management software.

· Must be legally authorized to work in Canada.

Pay: $60,000 to $80,000/ year
