Supreme Steel is currently looking for quality driven, experienced Journeyperson Welders and Apprentice Welders to join our production team at our facility in Acheson, AB . These are full time unionized positions for both day and night shift. Successful candidates for these positions must be conscientious, capable of interpreting blueprints for all types of projects to fabricate steel components accurately while adhering to safety protocols and quality standards in all fabrication processes.

Preferred Journeyperson Welder candidates will possess the following attributes:

  • Journeyperson / Red Seal Certificate required
  • CWB Certification required
  • CWB Welding Inspector 1 not required but considered an asset
  • Experience with Sub Arc considered an asset
  • Ability to perform welding of all types of structural steel work, using all positions
  • Understanding of welding procedures
  • Demonstrated knowledge and adherence to safety procedures
  • Possess mechanical knowledge to troubleshoot and resolve fabrication issues
  • Ability to take direction and perform with minimum supervision

With a proven ability to weld the types of work that are appropriate for their Apprentice level, the successful Apprentice Welder candidates will also possess the following attributes:

  • Participation in AIT Apprenticeship program is required
  • Demonstrated knowledge and adherence to safety procedures
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings
  • CWB certification considered an asset

About The Role

We are recruiting Apprentice Welders to join our team on a large-scale project in northeast Saskatchewan. This is a camp based position working on a 14 days on / 7 days off rotation, travel will be compensated for to and from the project

As a key member of our construction team, you will work under the guidance of experienced Journeyman Welders to develop your welding skills and gain valuable hands-on experience in the trade. You will assist in the fabrication, repair, and installation of metal components in accordance with project specifications, industry standards, and applicable codes, while ensuring all work is performed safely and efficiently.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret blueprints and project specifications
  • Perform welding using SMAW, GMAW, FCAW, and MCAW techniques
  • Cut, grind, drill, and stamp materials as needed
  • Conduct equipment maintenance in line with company and industry standards
  • Work independently with minimal supervision
  • Communicate project progress with your supervisor

Education/Skills/Qualifications

  • Registered as an Apprentice Welder 
  • Previous industrial construction experience (mining, oil & gas, heavy industrial) preferred.
  • Ability to work in a physically demanding environment, including climbing, lifting, and working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Must have valid safety tickets
  • Strong commitment to safety and teamwork.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment Drug and Alcohol test
  • Valid driver’s license, clean drivers abstract and ability to pass pre-employment requirements.
  • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.

Job Duties


  • Read and interpret blueprints or welding process specifications
  • Operate manual or semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse metal segments using gas metal arc welding
  • Operate manual or semi-automatic flame-cutting equipment.
  • Maintain safe work practices.
  • Conduct repairs, modifications and retrofits.
  • Assist in training, of junior employees and apprentices and inspecting their work.
  • Ensure accuracy and completion of assigned tasks and projects.
  • Other assigned work as required.


Requirements


  • 2 years experience as a Welder/Fitter preferred.
  • Experience in MIG welding
  • Ability to weld aluminum a definite asset
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints required
  • Flexible and willing to work overtime as required
  • Must own reliable transportation and hold a valid drivers license
  • Ability to work independently in a busy environment.
  • Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
  • Able to work well under pressure.
  • Quality mindset and strong attention to detail.


Work Conditions


  • Physical ability to lift up to 50lbs.
  • Safety equipment will be required, e.g. steel-toed safety boots, safety glasses/goggles, etc.

A DAY IN THE LIFE…

  • Reads and interprets blueprints or welding process specifications and welding symbols.
  • Operates manual or semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse metal segments using processes such as flux-cored arc welding (FCAW), shielded metal arc welding (SMAW).
  • Removes welds using the Air Arc Gouging process.
  • Completes assigned work within given timeframe and according to specifications.
  • Accurately completes time sheets, weight sheets, hazard analysis sheets etc.
  • Operates manual flame-cutting equipment.
  • Adjusts welding equipment and tooling according to work specifications.
  • Completes housekeeping duties in assigned area or project area on a daily basis and/or when required.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • One year of work experience in the trade required. Some college or industry courses in welding are considered an asset.
  • Interprovincial trade certification (Red Seal) an asset.
  • Specialization in structural construction welding considered an asset.
  • All required CWB qualifications are current.
  • Solid understanding of welding equipment and welding accessories.
  • Knowledge of pre-heat and post-heat temperatures and applications.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Must have own transportation as location is not accessible with public transportation.
  • Premium for night shift
  • Must supply basic hand tools.
  • Must have CSA approved steel-toed boots
  • Overhead Crane certification is an asset.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, the Journeyman Millwright will perform maintenance and repairs of all facility and production machinery. This position will be working on projects to improve safety, production, and environment at the Wynyard Plant. Other duties as required and directed by management. Rotational 8-hour shift schedule including days, afternoons and evening start times.

Key Accountabilities

  1. Accountable to quickly trouble shoot, diagnose and repair problems as they occur on any plant production equipment or any of the facilities and grounds equipment.
  2. Accountable to adhere to and utilize Company policies and procedures and HACCP regulations.
  3. Promote good communication and collaboration, both within the maintenance team and other stakeholders.
  4. Responsible to follow all preventive maintenance schedules.
  5. Accurate reporting of all outstanding and completed work, including parts and tools used.
  6. Accountable to ensure a safe work environment for coworkers, customers, and visitors.

Requirements

  1. Must have a valid Provincial Millwright Journeyman Certificate and Red Seal status (3rd year Apprentice will be considered).
  2. Ability to read and understand blueprints, schematics and wiring diagrams.
  3. Knowledge of P.L.C’s, motor controls and V.F.D’s an asset.
  4. Must have good communication skills, initiative and excellent attendance.
  5. Must be willing to work assigned shift rotations including weekends and OT as required.
  6. Some heavy lifting may be required.
  7. Other duties assigned by the Maintenance supervisor and/or designate.
