Job Description

The Facilities Process Engineer is responsible for developing, configuring and optimizing industrial processes from inception through to start up and certification at our Central Facilities and for developing best practices to improve production rates. The performance of the duties must ensure a quality service approach to all employees, customers and suppliers. All responsibilities must be performed in a manner consistent with the Farm Boy Way.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the process design, operation and implementation of new and existing plant equipment.
  • Improve industrial processes in order to maintain efficiency, reduce cost, improve sustainability and maximize profitability.
  • Develop, configure and optimize industrial processes from inception through to start up and certification.
  • Design, run, test and upgrade systems and processes and perform risk assessments.
  • Develop best practices, routines and innovative solutions to improve production rates and quality of output.
  • Assess, report on, promote and carry out process improvements initiatives, specifically with regard to machine and/or system reliability and improved performance.  This includes analyzing data, conducting risk assessments and monitoring processes to collect data and make recommendations.
  • Update maintenance and equipment parts records using a computerized maintenance management system (iMaint).
  • Liaise with service providers, technicians and equipment manufacturers for support on commissioning, repairs and upgrades.
  • Develop and implement Food Safety and quality control measures, conduct risk assessments, and monitor processes to prevent contamination and ensure compliance with food safety regulations.
  • Research and make equipment selection recommendations for process improvement.
  • Install and commission new equipment and develop preventative maintenance procedures as required.
  • Collaborate with several cross-functional teams internally and externally for the viable production of products and process.
  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment.
  • Direct and lead contractors as required.
  • Maintain files and records of jobs performed and equipment condition as required.
  • Maintain files, records, line diagrams, etc. of electrical and instrumentation equipment and installations.
  • Adhere to and fully participate in the company's Health & Safety, Environmental and Management system.
  • Perform emergency response as required.
  • May be requested to undertake other related duties on a periodic basis.
Qualifications

  • Typically requires completion of a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering along with 2-3 years relevant work experience or a combination of education and work experience.
  • Proven work experience in process engineering.
  • Excellent technical skills and knowledge of process related standards.
  • Working knowledge of process engineering software packages along with experience using CAD or AutoCad.
  • Knowledge of maintenance processes, equipment and materials.
  • Excellent computer skills. CMMS experience an asset.
  • Excellent time management and priority setting skills.
  • Analytical thinker with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • High standards of cleanliness and order.
  • Ability to read, interpret, prepare or assist in the preparation of documents including mechanical and civil drawings.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision.
  • Ability to climb ladder and use general maintenance tools and equipment.
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations.
  • Flexible as to hours and days of work with the ability to travel.

Work & Sensory Environment:

  • Occasional requirement to wear cumbersome protective clothing or equipment.
  • Possible exposure to dangerous or unpleasant environmental elements such as dirt or dust, extreme temperatures and adverse weather conditions for driving and/or for outdoor work.

The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for designing tools for use in nuclear services field work.
Reporting to the Nuclear Services Design Engineering Manager, this role interfaces heavily with nuclear services project engineers, component project engineers, field technicians and boilermakers.
**ACCOUNTABILITIES:**
**Design tools for field services work:**
+ Create conceptual designs of service tools for machining, welding, inspection, etc. using SolidWorks.
+ Create design plans and perform design reviews.
+ Seek out stakeholder input.
+ Support tool testing and modifications required during execution.
**Tooling fabrication:**
+ Create manufacturing drawings for tools using SolidWorks.
+ Work with fabrication vendors.
**Provide oversight of tool use during field execution, if necessary:**
+ Perform work in a nuclear power plant on critical tooling applications.
**KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE:**
+ Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Applied Science in either the Mechanical or Mechatronics discipline or equivalent.
+ 5 years of experience, preferably in a nuclear services environment, or other high consequence industry such as oil & gas, mining, aerospace.
+ Field service work and hands-on experience (various hand tools) is preferred.
+ Comprehensive understanding of SolidWorks (including but not limited to modelling, drawing creation, weldments, sheet metal and simulation).

Your Opportunity
- Your role as the Mechanical Engineer within the Industrial Studio, is to work alongside a team of highly skilled Engineers, Engineers in Training, Technologists, Designers and Co-Op staff to successfully execute projects of varying sizes and complexity. The Mechanical Engineer role is also responsible for contributing to the development, mentoring, and coaching of team members using your specialized knowledge of mechanical systems, means and methods, materials, and industry standards. You will be responsible for aligning and enforcing technical quality for all your deliverables and advance the efficiency and efficacy of all mechanical team members.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Workload and resource planning with the Industrial Mechanical team, coordinating with the Team Leads and team members - including Engineers, Engineers in Training, Technologists, and Co-Ops.
- Engages with other team members and other mechanical staff within the BC to assist with technical development.
- Internal leadership in design excellence, coaching, recruitment and retention.
- Can lead and assist in the development of single discipline.
- Provide fee development and technical writing support for mechanical components of medium to large multi-disciplinary proposals.
- Providing technical input and support for large projects of high complexity.
- Evaluates, selects, specifies, and engineers all mechanical engineered systems or products for a project.
- Engages in the development of a design through sketches, electronic models, diagrams and other visual formats.
- Utilizes BIM technologies in the development of three-dimensional models of building's mechanical systems and provides markups for junior engineers.
- Prepares and revises documentation in various mechanical phases including site plans, floor plans, diagrams, and details.
- Leads project coordination meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants, owner and contractor, sub-contractors, and vendors.
- Participates in client project requirement meetings, value analysis, and basic cost estimating.
- Leads the preparation and coordination of the project specifications with construction documents.
- Participates in constructability review.
- Conducts quality assurance and quality control on own projects and projects of peers.
- Assists in the development of new standards and specifications for the mechanical group.
- Develops project scope, budgets, and design approach for all sizes of projects.
- Oversees and manages multiple projects.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Requisite knowledge and application of applicable building codes and applicable building and energy codes.
- General understanding of all phases of project document production and the relationship between drawings and specifications.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, means and methods, materials, and industry standards.
- Ability to check the work of others for accuracy and completeness and manage time to meet project budget and schedule.
- Ability to participate and collaborate in project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought.
- Thorough understanding of mechanical engineering concepts and ability to effectively communicate ideas to others.
- Must be able to qualify for Security Clearance with the Department of National Defense.
- Advanced oral and written communication skills.
- Presentation and interview skills are preferred.
- Requires understanding of Microsoft Office Suite, Revit, AutoCAD, Revizto, and heat load calculation software.
Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree, or equivalent, in Mechanical Engineering & Licensed Professional Engineer.
Minimum of 8 years of experience.
LEED Green Associate or LEED AP preferred.
Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.

Terrestrial Energy is developing for near-term commercial operation, a zero-emissions cogeneration plant for global industry using its proprietary Integral Molten Salt Reactor (IMSR) fission technology in an innovative, small and modular plant design. The IMSR is a non-Light Water Reactor of the Generation IV class that operates at the high temperature required for broad industrial relevance with transformative economic potential. The IMSR plant offers a near 50 percent improvement in efficiency of electric power generation compared to Light Water Reactor nuclear plants. The Mechanical Engineer, under the direction of the Mechanical Engineering Manager, is primarily responsible for design and development of their assigned mechanical systems through the Detailed Engineering phase. Other responsibilities include:

  • Prepare calculations, analyses and assessment documents for the development of the system and equipment design
  • Prepare the system classification, design requirements and design summary report in accordance with applicable design guides, procedures, and codes and standards
  • Participate in and contribute to design reviews
  • Communicate and work with various technical disciplines to understand system design(s) and interfacing requirements
  • Coordinate and interface with the plant layout lead in the development of 3D CAD for the responsible mechanical systems
  • Contribute to timely resolution of mechanical design challenges and address risks

Requirements

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering, or alternate degree in a related field

  • Supporting Production by delivering clear, build-ready documentation and assisting with on-site or shop floor troubleshooting when needed.
  • Maintaining and improving the CAD database and design standards.
  • Taking full ownership of the physical integrity and performance of assigned designs.
You will be a great fit if you have:
  • A degree in Mechanical or Integrated Engineering. 
  • 1-3 years of relevant post-graduation work experience.
  • Registration as an EIT through EGBC or another Canadian engineering regulator.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks, including routing, large assemblies, weldments, sheet metal, drawings, and PDM systems.
  • Familiarity with industrial plant design, including P&IDs and concurrent engineering practices.
  • Experience using PLM (e.g., Aras Innovator) and ERP systems.
  • Knowledge of applicable piping codes and standards (e.g., ASME B31.3, BPVC, CSA B51-14). 
  • Strong hands-on mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience designing structural frames and/or high-pressure stainless steel piping systems (an asset).
  • Knowledge of design for assembly and LEAN methodologies (preferred).
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • A positive, proactive attitude and willingness to contribute to hands-on work when required.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally to sites within North America as needed.

Bantrel is currently seeking a Mechanical Engineer, Bulk Material Handling to support the K+S PC Engineering team. The Bulk Material Handling (BMH) Engineer will be responsible for coordinating the design and multi-disciplinary engineering delivery of BMH systems.   • Plans, coordinates or prepares equipment or work specifications, bid evaluations and award recommendations for equipment.
  • Coordinates engineering efforts in assigned areas between specialty and other engineering groups or disciplines, with the client, suppliers, and contractors and between other groups.
  • When delegated, assumes a lead technical role over other engineers or project subgroups for completing specific tasks.
  • Reviews bid analyses and makes recommendation.
  • Prepares or assists in preparation of conceptual studies, designs, reports or proposals.
  • Performs or assists in the performance of problem analysis and original design.
  • Prepares and/or assists in the preparation of cost estimates, quantity take-offs and staffing requirements for proposals, forecasts and change orders.

Qualifications

PowerON is expanding its electrification leadership across North America to include decarbonization of HVAC systems.  We are seeking an exceptional Mechanical Engineer to serve as a technical lead for decarbonization projects at PowerON.  

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Create concept designs of mechanical systems and options for review and approval by clients. 

  • Detail design reviews 

  • Reviewing engineering drawings for accuracy and completeness through the detailed design phase. 

  • Review engineering deliverables from consultants, and ensure quality is upheld through-out the process. 

  • Perform site walk-downs with contractors, and consultants to evaluate constructability and design options. 

  • Develop detailed phasing plans and perform interference checks with existing systems and/or projects where necessary. 

  • Develop technical standards, methodologies, and best practices for HVAC decarbonization 

  • Create integrated solutions that leverage existing MW-scale electrification capabilities 

  • Develop innovative approaches that optimize the intersection of electrical and mechanical systems 

  • Collaborate with business development teams to identify and pursue large-scale integrated electrification opportunities 

  • Contribute to proposal development for complex, multi-disciplinary projects 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering 

  • Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Ontario, or eligible for licensure with PEO 

  • 5+ years of experience in mechanical consulting engineering with building systems 

  • Demonstrated experience with HVAC decarbonization projects, including heat pumps, geothermal, heat recovery systems, centralized heating, or other relevant HVAC technologies  

  • Experience with carbon accounting, and lifecycle assessment methodologies  

  • Proven track record leading complex, large-scale mechanical engineering projects (>$10M) 

  • Proficiency with energy modeling software (HAP, TRACE, eQUEST, or equivalent) 

  • Excellent AutoCAD or other CAD software capabilities
