**WHAT''S THE JOB?**
Reporting to the Facilities Manager, the Building Systems Technician (Plumbing) is responsible for plumbing, maintenance (preventative, corrective and immediate repair) and mechanical work. This position works as part of a team, and cross-training/maintenance work outside of the primary plumbing trade is expected. Examples of work outside of the primary plumbing trade include snow removal, moving furniture and event set-up.
**Specific Duties and Accountabilities**
Installs, repairs and maintains plumbing and heating-related devices such as but not limited to pumps, water distribution piping, valves, fixtures, back flow preventers and drainage interceptors.
Regularly reacts to plumbing emergencies, including but not limited to leaks, clogged drains and heating repairs.
Performs preventive maintenance tasks on designated plumbing and heating-related equipment.
Makes recommendations for upgrading plumbing systems based on best economical/professional judgement.
Performs routine maintenance checks on building systems including but not limited to inspection, maintenance and replacement of belts/filters.
Carries out preventative maintenance and minor repairs to mechanical systems as required.
Performs all duties in accordance with the Nova Scotia Occupational Health & Safety Act, as well as university and government rules and regulations.
Maintains a clean work environment in the Facilities Shop and in the areas of all work projects.
Assists outside contractors/Dalhousie with steam heat system problems.
On call duties 24 hours per day, 7 days per week on rotation.
Performs other related duties as assigned by the Facilities Manager.

**Qualifications**
**WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?**
Valid Plumbing Certification (as recognized by the Nova Scotia Apprenticeship Agency). Red Seal Designation is mandatory.
Must possess a valid Class 5 Nova Scotia driveru2019s license and provide a clean driveru2019s abstract.

Certified Building System Technician
Occupational Health & Safety Training Certification
WHMIS
Fall Arrest
CPR/First Aid
JGL & Scissor Lift Certified
HVAC and heating experience
Building Automation experience
Backflow Prevention certification
Steamfitter certification
Ability to operate heavy machinery for snow removal
Computer proficiency

Job DescriptionWe are seeking a skilled and experienced Maintenance Supervisor with an emphasis on mechanical building systems to join our team. The ideal candidate will have expertise in managing and maintaining heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC), plumbing, refrigeration systems, and heat exchangers in a hotel environment. This role requires a proactive individual with strong leadership skills to oversee maintenance staff, coordinate preventative maintenance, and ensure compliance with safety standards.
Salary Range : $65,000 - $70,000 per annum based on experience.
What you will be doing:
Reporting to the Director of Engineering, responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:
- Supervise and lead a team of maintenance technicians, providing guidance, training, and support.
- Manage the day-to-day operations of mechanical building systems, including HVAC, plumbing, refrigeration, and heat exchangers.
- Plan and execute preventative maintenance schedules to ensure optimal performance and longevity of mechanical systems.
- Utilize CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems) to track maintenance activities, spare parts, and schedules.
- Troubleshoot and repair mechanical equipment to minimize downtime and disruptions to hotel operations.
- Collaborate with hotel management to address any maintenance challenges or improvements.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal safety regulations and standards.
- Maintain accurate records of all maintenance activities, inspections, and services performed.
- Coordinate with external contractors for specialized maintenance services when necessary.
- Other duties as assigned
Your experience and skills include:
- Journeyman Plumber, Refrigeration Technician, or Millwright certification with relevant experience.
- Proven experience in a maintenance supervisory role, preferably in a hotel or similar environment.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical building systems, including HVAC, plumbing, refrigeration, and heat exchangers.
- Experience with preventative maintenance strategies and CMMS is essential.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and after-hours as needed.
- Proficiency in maintenance management software is an asset.

Job Summary:
We are currently looking for a Building Automation System (BAS) Technician to join our growing team based out of Winnipeg, MB. As a BAS Technician you will be involved in the installation, commissioning and servicing of commercial building automation systems. This position requires a good working knowledge of PC fundamentals, PC Networking/LAN, basic electronic theory and Building Electrical/Mechanical systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in delivering BAS solutions to our customer base within the Construction/Operation Department.
- Assist with site commissioning, point to point verifications, troubleshooting and startup of a variety of Building Automation Systems.
- Learn and demonstrate a thorough understanding of Ainsworth Safe Work and H&S Policies.
- Understand fundamentals of how HVAC systems operate on commercial buildings.
- Work with and understand HVAC and Digital Control fundamentals
- Demonstrate working knowledge of BAS Networking and Building System Integration.
Qualifications:
- Valid Driver’s license.
- Fluent in English – both written and oral.
- The ability to read and understand construction plans and specs and product documentation.
- Graduate of Post-Secondary technical or engineering program.
- Fluent in Microsoft Office.
- Medium physical duties, the ability to stand for long periods of time in a construction environment, the ability to climb ladders and at times work from heights.
