What you will need to succeed
To be considered for this position, you must have minimum of 3 years experience in a law firm dealing with Family Law matters. You must also have excellent knowledge and understanding of matters related to contested divorces, custody and access disputes, child, and spousal support, as well as property and equalization of net family property.
In this new role you must be able to work independently or under the direction of senior lawyers as part of an established and growing team. Roles and Responsibilities
- Represent clients in all areas of family law, including divorce, custody, access, support, and property division
- Conduct client consultations and provide legal advice tailored to individual needs
- Draft legal documents, including separation agreements, court applications, affidavits, and financial statements
- Appear in court for motions, conferences, trials, and other hearings
- Negotiate settlements and advocate for clients in mediations and arbitrations
- Maintain organized and up-to-date client files and case documentation
- Manage deadlines and ensure procedural compliance with court rules and practices
- Work collaboratively with support staff and fellow lawyers;
- Docket time in Cosmolex;
- Legal research and drafting of a wide range of legal documents including but not limited to Applications, Reply, Answer, Conference Briefs, Motion materials, Factums, etc.
The successful candidate will have:
- 2-5 years Family Law experience working in an Ontario family law firm;
- Experience in division of assets and separation agreements;
- Strong litigation, drafting, negotiation and organizational skills;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
- Member in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario;
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills (verbal, written, and listening); and
- Able to handle multiple assignments, work well under pressure, and have the flexibility to assist the team in meeting client demands on accelerated schedules.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
- 2-5 years of experience in family law;
- Law Degree;
- Called to the Bar in Ontario; and
- Experience working with Cosmolex and DivorceMate.

- Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality;
- Ability to multi-task and take on additional projects or assignments to develop skill set;
- Ability to work well independently, as well as in a team setting;
