What will you do as a Field Application Engineer? The Field Application Engineer (FAE) will apply product knowledge of LMI sensors and networking products to support sales activities at a technical level. The FAE works closely with customers to resolve technical issues as well as interact with sales team members to support successful sales outcomes. Activities include timely response to application testing, code snippet development, troubleshooting, travelling with sales reps to assess the technical requirements of customers, recommending appropriate product solutions, and general support of the sales process to grow business for the region.- Frequent visits to potential customer site to support pre-sales activity at a technical level
- Perform -testing of samples sent in by customers (to determine if our sensors meet the application requirements) and report results.
- Work closely with customers to identify technical requirements and propose solutions for customer’s applications
- Create software that is used for test, demonstration and evaluation purposes to promote the use and sale of LMI products. All software is created within the R&D software design guidelines and in cooperation with the R&D department
- Provide training or product demonstrations to existing and potential customers on LMI’s premises or at the customer’s premises
- Develop strong relationships with key customer personnel at technical levels
- Log all customer support interactions in LMI’s customer support ticketing software, ensure these records are updated regularly, and issues are resolved in the quickest time possible
- Produce technical sales materials in cooperation with the sales and marketing departments
- Produce training materials in cooperation with the sales and marketing departments
- To be familiar with all of LMI’s processes for sales and marketing and work within and support these processes
- To learn and become proficient in the operation, characteristics and performance of all LMI sensor products
- Support the sales team in preparing for trade shows and attend these shows when necessary
- Continually provide feedback as to how LMI’s products or services can be improved to enhance our customer's experience
- Bachelor of Computer Science, Electrical, Mechanical or Computer Engineering degree or equivalent
- Minimum 3-4 years of experience in the high technology industry / factory automation industry working on various projects relating to their area of study
- Minimum of 2-3 years customer service experience or equivalent work experience.
- Excellent knowledge of tools required by their discipline (Software – Visual Studio (C/C++, C#, VB.NET), Python, Mechanical – Fusion 360, Electronics – Wiring and setup, basic soldering skills) with demonstrated ability in past project accomplishments
- Strong working knowledge of machine vision and automation industry
- Basic knowledge of computer networking, digital image processing and PLC (Allen-Bradley, Siemens)
- Problem solving skills using a clear understanding of facts and implementation of test plans and solution strategies
- Solid interpersonal skills for proper function in a team environment
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills

General Description
We are looking for a versatile and technically skilled individual to support the deployment and integration of our smart lighting control systems. This hybrid role involves a mix of scripting, technical support, light project coordination, and system-level testing—ideal for someone with a background in electrical systems, basic software skills, and customer-facing experience.
- Software Development – Writing, testing, and debugging software for our smart lighting systems (Python required ).
-Engineering Team Support – Assisting in system testing, product development, and internal technical tasks.

Key Responsibilities
Software Development
- Develop and troubleshoot software related to our smart lighting solutions.
- Write Python-based scripts and tools for product customization, automation, and testing.
- Work with internal teams to enhance product features and optimize performance.
- Conduct system-level testing to build expertise and replicate customer issues.
- Set up test environments, analyze product performance, and contribute to R&D efforts.
- Assist in designing and implementing solutions that integrate hardware and software components.

Position Requirements
- An undergraduate degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering, Networking and Telecommunications, Information and Communication Technology, or a related field.
- Demonstrated success in a Field Application Engineering role or a similar product design or application engineering position (field or internal), with at least 1-2 years of experience in both hardware and software domains.
- Strong Python programming skills are preferred to assist with custom solutions and troubleshooting.
- Exposure electrical wiring, wiring diagrams, and hardware setup.
- Ability to clearly communicate complex technical details to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Proven ability to work under pressure, especially in response to customer issues and deadlines.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Familiarity with network performance and cybersecurity testing is beneficial.
- Industry experience in lighting or smart building technology is an asset.
- Understanding of wireless mesh network topology is beneficial.
- Willingness and ability to travel within Canada as required for client support and site visits.

+ Configure automation to exchange data generated on the system with the customer's Lab Information Management System (LIMS) when required
+ Teach and optimize robot/mover motion and workflows using our company's market leading scheduling software
+ Test and address any issues to successfully achieve customer site acceptance test (SAT) approval
+ Provide basic training and familiarization of the automated system to the end customer users
+ Ensure systems are coordinated in alignment with established standard operating procedures
**How will you get there?**
Education:
+ University degree or college diploma in Computer Science, Mechatronics, Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, Electro-mechanical, or related field of study
Experience:
+ 5 years of automation experience, or related field
+ 2 years in a role directly collaborating with customers in a professional environment
+ Experience with programming languages (C++, Python) is considered an asset
+ Experience integrating or servicing laboratory instruments considered an asset
Knowledge & Skills:
+ High proficiency in electromechanical problem-solving techniques
+ Solid understanding of software and networking
+ Good interpersonal and communication skills
+ Strong organization, planning and time leadership skills
+ Professional presence
+ Proficient English speaking and writing skills

+ Valid Passport
+ Ability to travel 75% of the time internationally without restrictions

General Description
As a Field Application Engineer Coop, you will play an important part in our company’s product development process and will be involved in conducting tests before product launches to ensure software runs smoothly and meets client needs, while being cost-effective.
You will also have the opportunity to be part of a close knit and innovative team, and explore new technology aimed at energy conservation using machine learning, edge computing and data fusion, with focus on making this world a better place for future generations.
Key Responsibilities
- Support post sales activities to provide the client with the confidence in our solution.
- Provide developers with customers’ feedback to help identify potential new features.
- Review requirements, specifications and technical design documents to provide timely and meaningful feedback.
- Review architectural drawings and specifying the appropriate product to meet the customer requirements.
- Design and implement tests.
- Design, develop and execute automation scripts using open-source tools.
- Identify, record, document thoroughly, track bugs and monitor debugging process results.
- Liaise with internal teams (e.g. developers and product managers) to identify system requirements.
- Track quality assurance metrics and report on product performance.
Position Requirements
- Completing a degree in Electrical Engineering or a related subject.
- GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- Exposure to software development using Python.
- Exposure electrical wiring, wiring diagrams, and hardware setup.
- Ability to explain technical details and requirements to a non-technical audience.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Valid Driver's License.
