THE ROLE

Strive is working with a reputable company on a search for a Field Service Mechanic. In this role, youll be responsible for diagnosing and repairing a variety of construction equipment, including earth-moving, compaction, aerial, and forklift machinery. This is a permanent opportunity for someone who works well independently, has strong mechanical and troubleshooting skills, and enjoys a fast-paced, on-the-go work environment. Based out of Etobicoke, youll primarily be on the road responding to client service calls. A minimum of 5 years experience with heavy-duty construction equipment is required.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conduct routine inspections, servicing, and repairs on a wide range of construction equipment including earth-moving, compaction, aerial lifts (telehandlers, boom lifts, scissor lifts), and forklifts
  • Perform diagnostics and troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues to identify root causes
  • Carry out scheduled preventative maintenance to minimize downtime and extend equipment life
  • Test the machinery post-repair to ensure optimal performance and safety
  • Provide excellent customer service by effectively communicating with clients and supporting their equipment needs
  • Accurately complete service records, maintenance logs, and work orders
  • Follow all health and safety protocols to maintain a safe work environment


REQUIREMENTS:

  • 5 years of mechanical experience, ideally servicing a variety of heavy construction equipment
  • Valid G-Class drivers license with a clean or satisfactory driving record
  • Fully equipped with a complete set of tools, or actively working toward it
  • Willing to work overtime and participate in an on-call rotation as needed
  • Proficient with diagnostic software and modern repair tools
  • Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and mechanical components
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Clear communicator with strong verbal and written skills, and a customer-focused mindset

What I will be doing?

  • Perform diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs on a variety of heavy-duty on- and off-road equipment.
  • Accurately complete work orders and ensure billing aligns with Acden MRM standards.
  • Work closely with the Lead Hand to manage service requests and ensure timely job completion.
  • Train, support, and mentor apprentices.

How you will make an impact:  

  • Set up, maintain, and troubleshoot equipment. You will ensure that automated food production equipment is ready for operation at the start of each shift. What you bring:

  • The experience. You have a high school diploma or equivalent. You have experience as a maintenance worker, preferably in food manufacturing or flexible packaging with plastics.
  • The technical skills. You possess the mechanical knowledge and skills to set up and maintain equipment in a manufacturing and packaging facility, including packaging equipment such as carton box formers, box sealers, case packagers, case coders, labellers, and ideally form-fill-seal or flexible packaging machines. You can use a computer and a handheld device. You can easily come up to speed on how to safely start, operate, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain equipment. You are proficient in addition, subtraction and fractions. Understands temperature and weight measures.
  • The interpersonal skills. The Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for the ongoing repair and general maintenance of all equipment in the Central Facility, reporting any issues to their Supervisor / Manager. Major Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, test, troubleshoot and repair industrial equipment within the plant to ensure the ongoing and reliable operation of plant equipment and systems to maintain targeted throughput and efficiency standards
  • Assess, report on, promote and carry out process improvements initiatives, specifically with regard to machine and/or system reliability and improved performance
  • Perform all daily checks as per TSSA requirements on the ammonia & water tower systems and manage TSSA inspection visits and be the direct contact with inspector on corrective actions
  • Assist with setting up and maintaining the preventive maintenance program, carry out maintenance activities, work orders, and replacement or repair of defective parts, components or system performance testing and update files and records of work and equipment as required
  • Perform part replacement using manufacturing recommendations and update maintenance and parts records using a computerized maintenance management system
  • Evaluate condition of instrumentation, devices and parts in operations by checking calibration, listening to their sounds, verifying pressures, temperatures, etc. to detect imperfections
  • Maintain files, records, line diagrams, etc. of electrical and instrumentation equipment and installations
  • Complete required documentation, log books, timesheets, etc. when executing duties to ensure compliance
  • Adhere to and fully participate in the company's Food Safety, Health & Safety, Environmental and Management system and maintain a safe and clean work environment at all times
  • Direct and lead contractors during plant shutdowns and assist in the set up of new stores, installations and project work as required
  • Respond to “off” hours emergencies as required and be on scheduled “on call” rotation as well as provide essential services coverage during plant shutdowns and Statutory holidays Work in a self-directed manner by managing time and tasks to complete work assigned
  • Champion and implement at least one continuous improvement activity each year
  • May be requested to undertake other related duties on a periodic basis
Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience in Refrigeration and equipment maintenance and repairs with current Ammonia Refrigeration Operator Class B license
  • Experience with CMMS would be considered an asset
  • Strong computer skills and ability to read, write and/or interpret reports, mechanical and civil drawings and sketches
  • Good time management skills and ability to work independently with little supervision
  • Good organizational skills with high standards of cleanliness  
  • Personable and outgoing with strong communication skills
  • Ability to climb ladder and use general maintenance tools and equipment
  • Knowledge of Food, Health and Safety regulations in a manufacturing environment
  • Dependable, trustworthy and must be bondable
  • Flexible as to hours and days of work with the ability to travel
  • Certification in CPR/First Aid would be an asset

DUTIES

  1. Mechanic will need to ensure that all necessary repairs and scheduled preventative maintenance work requests are carried out on his assigned shift.
  2. You will have ability to interpret schematic drawings and fabricate using welding skills.
  3. Mechanic will participate in the Canada Brick health & safety, 6S housekeeping and environmental programs.
  4. Mechanic will assist other members of the Maintenance & Production Departments to ensure minimal downtime.
  5. Any parts that have been removed or replaced will be tagged for repair “in house” or contracted out, you will also make Lead Mechanics are aware of these repairs verbally or in writing.
  6. The plant, air, gas, and water system will require maintenance. This will require basic pipefitting and plumbing skills.
  7. As the Shift Mechanic you will provide your own hand tools (Metric/Standard) to complete any repairs.
  8. Actively assist with Production changeovers, Kiln Car repairs & lubrication as required.
  9. Reports Maintenance requests to the Supervisor and/or Lead Hands for scheduling time.
  10. Actively participates in maintenance shutdowns scheduled or unscheduled overtime will be required at times.

*And any other duties as required by Maintenance Superintendent, Maintenance Lead Hand, or Production Supervisor, when the need arises.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

3 to 4 plus years Maintenance Mechanic experience.

Certified Millwright qualifications would be an asset.

Conveying, Hydraulic, Pneumatic, Electrical, Pipefitting, Welding and Plumbing skills.

An understanding of PLC and VFD System.

Ability to work efficiently alone and in team settings.

EDUCATION

High School Diploma / Maintenance Trade Courses.
