Key Responsibilities

PURPOSE AND SCOPE:
As a member of the Community Services Department, these positions prepare lesson plans, provide quality instruction, evaluation and complete administrative tasks for the assigned programs/classes.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Represent the City of Belleville in a professional manner with appropriate actions and conduct by following all of the Staff Policies and Procedures set out by the Department.

Fresh Start is a health retreat specializing in emotional wellness, physical health, quitting smoking and holistic cleansing programs. Our guests come from all over North America for 5-21 days to work on their health or health maintenance. You will have an opportunity to contribute to a life and health-changing experience and to be a part of an integrative and comprehensive holistic program that is the only program of this nature in Canada. You will work with all levels of fitness, from someone with limited mobility and who may need a modified chair class to an athlete who loves high-intensity classes. Mostof our guests have some minor to advanced mobility issues, yet there are some health-conscious high-fitness level guests, too. Your challenge would be to find a way to accommodate everyone and to create a fun and non-competitive atmosphere.
Position Summary:
Group Fitness Instruction twice weekly, plus private training for our retreat guests.
We run eight 21-Day programs per year on specificdates. The opportunity is available during program dates only.
This is not a regular F/T position.
Classes Week Days and Hours:
Group Fitness Classes: Monday and Saturday 11-12:00 p.m. (one of the Mondays 12-1 p.m.).General workouts with light weights. We have basic equipment (weights, mats, bands, straps, yoga blocks).
Private Classes/ Semi-Private Classes (2-4 guests): on demand - will discuss suitable times for both you and the program schedule.
Note: Private Class bookings are subject to offering top-notch group classes and are a bonus. We can only guarantee the group classes. More skills you have, more value you bring to guests, higher chances you'll get private training sessions. Guests' expectation is to work with a highly qualified professional.
Location and Facilities : Classes are held in a large multi-purpose room with a laminate floor. We have a small gym that is great for private workouts. Programs are run out of the beautiful Ocean Resort facility, located on the ocean side, so the exercise room faces the ocean.

Must-Haves:

- Ability to work with people with various injuries (ex., bulging disks, hip replacement, etc.) and obesity

SUMMARY OF DUTIES

SUMMARY OF DUTIES
Reporting to the Recreation or Aquatic Supervisor within one or more Recreation Centres, this position is responsible for the instruction and leading of participants in program and activities requiring specialized fitness instruction, both on-land and in-water. The certified instructor will lead the fitness classes as required by their certification governing body to provide participants with a safe, informative, progressive and effective high-level fitness experience.
This position is generally utilized to offer specialized fitness and wellness activities such as 55+ Fitness, Yoga, Pilates, Aqua Spinning,
GENERAL DUTIES
- Maintain qualifications and certifications within current acceptable standards within the chosen discipline.
- Lead and/or instruct groups and individuals in fitness within current accepted standards for the recreation discipline.
- Perform instruction of skills for various programs within their capabilities and experience.
- Prepare course outlines and lesson plans according to the curriculum guidelines.
- Provide information related to lifestyle awareness within capabilities and knowledge as it relates to the recreation instructional program.
- Attend to clients special needs related to the recreation program being instructed.
- Monitor the fitness equipment, facility and activities to ensure safety and provide emergency or first aid assistance when required including the preparation of incident/accident reports when required.
- Attend all mandatory staff meetings and training sessions.
- Maintain accurate administrative records such as attendance forms and class lists for the program as identified by the full time staff.
- Respond to questions and general enquiries from the public and program participants.
- Monitor the performance levels of participants during the program activity.
- Manage the set-up and tear down of all program equipment.
- Work independently without direct supervision.
- In the absence of Recreation staff, respond to minor emergencies within the building to ensure safety of all patrons
- Work in accordance with the provisions of applicable Health and Safety legislation and all City of Hamilton corporate and departmental policies and procedures related to Occupational Health and Safety.
- Perform other duties as assigned which are directly related to the responsibilities of this position.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Must hold up to date certifications and provide copies of these at the time of interview.
Qualifications include:
Current Fitness Certification (Personal Training (PTS), Group Fitness Instructor (FIS), CALA)
AND
Additional Specialized Certifications (Aqua Spin, certifications)
OR
Current Fitness Certification (Senior Fitness Instructor Certification (SFIC), Yoga RYT200, Pilates Instructor Certification)
