**Job Title: Food Safety Administrator**
**Job Description**
As a Food Safety Administrator, you will oversee the implementation and monitoring of food safety policies and practices. You will assist with both internal and external audits, delegate food safety responsibilities among the sanitation staff, and ensure compliance with food safety practices. Additionally, you will be responsible for maintaining reports, performing general administrative tasks, and managing in-house inventory and supplies.

**Responsibilities**
+ Implement and train staff on HACCP systems.
+ Assist in conducting internal and external audits.

We are seeking a Food Safety Analyst to join our team on a full time permanent basis! You will be responsible for ensuring that our HACCP plan and food safety standards are current and being followed by the plant staff and supervisors.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that HACCP plan is updated and maintained and being followed on the food production floor
  • Do walk throughs of the food plant to ensure that GMP are being followed
  • Maintain record keeping as required for HACCP and BRC
  • Assist in achieving BRC certification
  • Adhere to and improve our food safety protocols.
  • Respond to queries/complaints from consumers, customers, CFIA
  • Prepare for and oversee the GMP and BRC audit process
  • Interact with regulatory bodies such as CFIA, OMAFRA and third party auditors
  • Responsible to ensure that proper housekeeping SSOPs of entire plant, along with associated record keeping, as required by HACCP, GMP, BRC is being followed by plant staff and area supervisors.
  • Ensure that food production logs and records are properly maintained.
  • Ensure that documented workflow processes are being followed.
  • Ensure that proper QA policies are being followed.
  • Continuously work to improve food safety policies

Qualifications:

  • Strong command of English, both oral and written
  • Strong documentation skills to document work flow, processes and update SOPs and SSOPs
  • Experience working in a food safety or Quality Assurance role in a Food production environment.
  • Experience in a dairy would be a great asset.
  • Knowledge of HACCP principals
  • MS Excel, Word.
  • Some command of spoken Punjabi and/or Hindi would be an asset
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment

Located in the western part of Saskatchewan, Compass Minerals' Unity Mechanical Evaporation Plant is one of the company's four mechanical evaporation plants. The plant produces and packages a wide variety of salt products including water conditioning salt, bulk salt, food-grade salt and salt for agriculture. The Unity Evaporation Plant is located in a friendly community of 2,500 that loves hockey and curling, situated in the beautiful big-sky prairies, an hour from North Battleford and a 2 hour drive from Saskatoon. **Summary:**
Reporting to the Production Superintendent, this position is primarily responsible for performing quality assurance testing, analysis and interpretation of results pertinent to process and finished goods, supporting HACCP, GMP and Food Safety programs, respective audits, inspections and QSI investigations/reporting. Also responsible for coordination of collecting and arranging third party analyses of composite samples, testing required by the facility's operating permit and others as requested. Performs function in a professional, safe, accurate and efficient manner. In addition, this position is responsible for directing and coordinating activities concerned with the safe production of Compass Minerals products by performing the associated duties, included below, either personally or through subordinate supervisors. Potential for overtime and weekend work.
**How will you contribute to the team?**
To perform this role successfully, the candidate will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:
+ Responsible for site Quality Management System, Food Safety program, HACCP, Food Defense and Third-Party Auditing.
+ Confers with management to establish production, safety, sanitation and quality control standards, develop budget and cost controls, and facilitate inter and intra departmental communications.
+ Plans and directs production activities with procurement, maintenance, and quality control to obtain optimum quality assurance and food safety in keeping with effective operations and cost factors.
+ Reviews and analyzes production, quality control, maintenance, and operational reports to determine causes of nonconformity with product specifications.
+ Develops and implements operating methods and procedures designed to eliminate operating problems and consults with engineering personnel relative to modification of machines and equipment in order to improve production and quality of products.
+ Routine daily lab testing and analysis
+ Conducts a variety of tests to determine chemical composition and content specific to given samples
+ Assesses colour, solubility, turbidity, particle size, friability, dust and moisture relative to established quality standards and specifications.
+ Performs mathematical computations associated with sample assessments. Mixes chemicals to create proper reagents.
+ Documents all results and makes computer entries as required. Performs calibrations and minor repairs to testing equipment.
+ Is a member of the Plant Sanitation Committee activities/tours/follow-up. Assist with the Plant Manual Sanitation procedures and assuring cleaning checklist follow-up for all departments.
+ Perform other related duties as required.
**What should you bring to the role?**
+ Requires a Bachelor of Science Degree (Chemistry or Food Safety) or equivalent education and experience.
+ 5 - 7 years of lab experience, or food manufacturing and/or agricultural setting is considered an asset.
+ Demonstrated experience in quality systems and tools (statistical methods, FMEA, control plans) is preferred.
+ Direct experience in, or administration of, HACCP, BRCS, GFSI, ISO 2000, FSMA, and SFCR Standards, quality and/or food safety systems and production and laboratory procedures is desired.
+ Intermediate to advance understanding of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and Visio)

Our Food Safety & Compliance Specialists help our hotel, restaurant, and grocery clients ensure brand standards, food quality and friendly service for their customers. They also:

● Conduct assessments that measure conformity to established regulatory,

industry, and proprietary brand standards for clients

● Observe food prep and cooking standards to ensure food safety, health,

and sanitation practices

● Partner with clients to address root causes of assessment discrepancies

and develop corrective action plans

● Teach and coach clients how to make their workplace a safer and healthier

environment for themselves and THEIR customers

● Travel up to 50%, or 10 days per month, including some evening and

weekend work

● Meet the requirements to obtain a CP-FS certification

Job Description

This position is responsible for providing Food Safety training, coaching and guidance to our retail stores and Specialists on policy implementation and regulatory compliance within Ontario. The performance of the duties must ensure a quality service approach to all employees, customers and suppliers. All responsibilities must be performed in a manner consistent with the Farm Boy Way.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Provide Food Safety training and coaching to retail stores and retail support team on standards, procedures and policy implementation.
  • Organize Food Safety certification exam sessions in all regions to ensure required employees are up to date with regional requirements.
  • Ensure compliance and execution of all food safety standards, procedures and policies within all retail stores to internal and regulatory standards.
  • Provide coaching, training and follow-up, and review corrective action plans for Food Safety, Regulatory and Pest/Sanitation inspections to ensure your assigned stores are in compliance with all aspects of our Food Safety program.
  • Develop, update and maintain standards, logs, documentation and policies.
  • Conduct 3rd party verification audits in assigned facilities as required, ensuring all facilities are audited and follow-up activities are conducted within the required time frames.
  • Report relevant issues and metrics to your manager or retail support teams, and other stakeholders in a timely basis, and elevate issues appropriately.
  • Ensure proper record keeping and reporting/tracking of all retail visits in a timely manner.
  • Partner with other teams to operate as one integrated food safety, quality assurance and regulatory affairs team as agreed upon and assigned.
  • Respond with urgency to inquiries, emergency situations, recalls, etc.
  • Oversee the successful development and implementation within established due dates of objectives as well as other work assignments.
  • Build relationships with retail managers and team to achieve successful outcomes and decision making.
  • Actively contribute to a positive and productive work environment.
  • Be available after regular hours as required.
  • May be requested to undertake other related duties on a periodic basis.
Qualifications

  • Typically requires post-secondary degree in Quality Assurance, Regulatory, Food/Nutrition Science or Food Engineering along with 3-5 years Retail Operations or Food Manufacturing experience or equivalent combination of education, training and work experience.
  • Technical expertise in food safety; knowledge of processes to mitigate food safety and food quality issues; understanding of pest control and sanitation.
  • Understanding of Canadian Food Regulation (Federal, Provincial, Regional).
  • Excellent communication skills both oral and written to effectively communicate requirements and coach employees.
  • Demonstrated ability to initiate program improvements, including writing SOPs, training employees on new and existing programs and managing continuous improvement.
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively with a team.
  • Strong customer-service focus.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours and must have a valid Driver’s License and the ability to travel.
  • Requires significant travel between the GTA and Southwestern Ontario regions.

Work & Sensory Environment:

  • Exposure to eye strain from computer terminals.
  • May be required to perform physical tasks, including standing or walking for extended periods of time.
  • Providing service to several people or departments, working under many simultaneous deadlines.
  • Required to travel extensively between Farm Boy stores, Home Office and/or Central Operations (must be flexible in terms of work schedule and location).
