Job Responsibilities
- Assures quality, courteous customer service is provided to all customers
- Educate customers on menu items, daily features, dining hall events
- Maintains continual cleaning and sanitizing of surrounding work area
- Uses tools and equipment not limited to knives, pots, pans, equipment and appliances
- Organize workplace and schedule production
- Properly store products and maintain product inventory
- Follow recipes using proper portion control, presentation of finished product, and use of convenience foods
- Clear communication with team members, supervisors, and management
- Prepare foods including but not limited to herbs, spices, produce, cheese, grains, seeds, alternative proteins
- Prepare condiments, preserves, and dressings
- Stock and merchandise shelves, cereal and bread bar, salad bar, and coolers
- May wash and sanitize component dishes and utensils
- Record temperatures, label products in accordance with FIFO, complete waste log and cleaning log
- Adhere to all Aramark policies and procedures including occupational health and safety and food safety
- May perform other job duties as required
Qualifications
- Experience in the restaurant/food service industry considered an asset
- Strong customer service skills
- Ability to work independently and as a part of a team
- Must be flexible, as evening and weekend work is required

About The Job
Food Service Worker:
- Portioning and serving meals and beverages within a dining room and/or cafeteria operation.
- Counts, weighs and/or measures ingredients for assigned food preparation area.
- Washing and peeling vegetables and fruit.
- Assembles beverages and food items - tea, coffee, sandwiches, salads, bag lunches, items for Meals on Wheels program.
- Setting up and delivering meal carts.
- Cleaning of food service areas.
This is a Casual opportunity. Casual Employees are not guaranteed hours of work and can range from hours per week on an as-needed basis.
Shifts of work will be days and nights rotating from 06:03 to 14:13, 07:00 to 15:10, 10:30 to 18:40, 10:38 to 18:48, 08:00 to 13:00, 13:00 to 18:00 hours.

WHAT YOU BRING
Education/Experience:
- Preference will be given to applicants with a Food Service Worker Certificate
- Must possess a minimum of two years food service experience relative to an institutional kitchen
- Current Safe Food Handling Certificate (must be kept up to date)
- Experience in large quantity food preparation, preferably in a health care facility
- Previous experience with inventory and cost control in a food service operation
Skills/Abilities:
- Must understand the basics of food preparation, handling and storage
- Understanding of therapeutic diets and menus
- Position involves physically demanding tasks, including lifting and moving hot, heavy items (up to 15 kg) and standing for prolonged periods
- Must have an understanding of Occupational Health and Safety, HACCP
- Must be able to work comfortably in a team environment
- Must have good oral and written communication skills
- Must be able to adequately read and write English
- Demonstrated regular attendance at work
Assets:
- Cafeteria and catering experience would be an asset
Conditions of Employment:
- This position shall be conditional upon a satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) where indicated, to ensure the absence of relevant criminal convictions.
