We are seeking a detail-oriented and technically skilled CAD Drafter with experience in preparing pile foundation drawings, including helical piles, driven piles, and concrete piles. The successful candidate will support our engineering team by producing high-quality construction drawings and technical details that align with geotechnical and structural designs for transmission towers, substations, solar racking systems, and other infrastructure projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare 2D and 3D drawings for pile foundation systems (helical, driven, and concrete piles) using AutoCAD or Civil 3D.
  • Develop foundation layout plans, pile schedules, sections, and detailed connection drawings based on engineering input.
  • Incorporate soil profile information, site grading, and load data into foundation designs.
  • Collaborate closely with structural and geotechnical engineers to ensure drawing accuracy and compliance with project specifications and applicable codes.
  • Revise drawings based on engineering markups, design updates, and client feedback.
  • Maintain drawing standards and ensure drawing packages are complete, accurate, and submitted on time.
  • Assist in the preparation of “Issued for Bidding” (IFB), “Issued for Construction” (IFC), and “As-Built” drawing packages.

Organize and manage drawing files in accordance with company CAD standards

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Diploma or certificate in Civil Engineering Technology, Drafting, or a related field.
  • 2+ years of CAD drafting experience in foundation design, preferably with focus on deep foundations or pile systems.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD is required; experience with Civil 3D, Revit, or other structural design software is an asset.
  • Knowledge of helical pile, driven pile, and cast-in-place concrete pile construction methods.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, geotechnical reports, and structural specifications.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience in utility or energy infrastructure projects is considered an asset.

Preferred Skills (Assets):

  • Experience with drawing foundations for transmission lines, telecom towers, solar projects, or substations.
  • Familiarity with Canadian Foundation Engineering Manual (CFEM) or similar design references.
  • Understanding of pile testing requirements, embedment depth representation, and axial/lateral load considerations in drafting.

The Opportunity
The Senior Engineering Designer requires minimal input/direction/guidance from the Engineer of Record and can lead the design of most projects from inception through total completion. Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Interpretation of topographic information required for design.
  • Direct involvement including the preparation of detailed engineering drawings (primarily using AutoCAD Civil 3D and related applications) for a variety of assigned municipal engineering projects involving roads, storm and sanitary sewers, catchment maps, watermains, stormwater detention systems and related infrastructure.
  • Provide guidance, training and instruction of junior staff and technical support staff as needed to ensure completion of the design objectives.
  • Design of ESC systems and plans.
  • Preparation of alternate designs as necessary.
  • Site and lot grading and earthworks balancing and optimization.
  • Technical analysis of the municipal infrastructure components including sewer design sheets and modelling software.
  • Preparation of quantity take-offs and cost estimates.
  • Preparation of reports, letters, memos and other project correspondence.
  • Compilation of as-built records for design and record drawings.
  • Preparation of contract documents for project tendering and execution of the project design drawings.


Knowledge:
  • Application of municipal engineering design criteria and drawing preparation standards for individual communities, particularly Subdivision & Development Control Bylaws.
  • Application of relevant sections of the Provincial Building Code as it relates to the design of municipal engineering infrastructure on private property.
  • Familiarity with CCDC documents relating to Stipulated Price and Unit Price contracts.
  • Familiarity with overarching federal, provincial, and municipal legislation, codes and bylaws.
  • Knowledgeable and experienced in all aspects of the detailed design of municipal infrastructure for either public or private sector clients.
  • Knowledgeable of technical design issues, constructability, cost, and design approvals.
  • Knowledgeable of tender preparation with limited construction administration experience.


Skills and Qualifications:
  • Minimum 10 years of experience within the civil engineering field barring special exemption granted by combined approval from the Business Group Manager, Manager, People & Culture, and Operations Administrator.
