KBM Aviation- Survey Pilot Based out of Thunder Bay International Airport, KBM Aviation comprises a fleet of nine piston and turbine fixed-wing aircraft servicing our growing 702/703 and FTU operations. Aerial Survey includes missions such as aerial photography, LiDAR, thermal, Geophysical, and ocular surveys all over Canada and beyond. Pilots work a variable schedule driven by projects and weather that is generally busy in the summer and quieter in the winter. Survey projects vary in length from half day to three-week assignments at locations across Canada and occasionally the USA. Pilots normally fly 300-500 hours per year. Compensation includes: * Base salary $50,000 - $0,000 / year * Flight pay 200/ day, 100/ half-day * Per diem away from base 102/night * RRSP/TFSA matching program * Annual profit share/bonus Accommodations and travel costs provided. The Role

The responsibilities of this position will include, but are not limited to:

  • Working together with the Survey Party Chief in the field

  • Conduct HAZMAT surveys (asbestos, lead, mold) following O.Reg. 278/05, 490/09, etc.

Nature and Scope

General Accountability
The Community Survey Analyst will work closely with the Project Manager and First Nation networks, government, and other stakeholders to help ensure the goals and objectives of the SITAG Indigenous Labour Market Inventory Project are achieved. This position will analyze, translate, and share data collected from these sources to promote evidence-based decision making, as well as assess and inform programs, services, initiatives, and policies. This position will work closely with the SITAG communities to ensure that data collected are accurate, reliable, and timely.

This position will demonstrate good research and analytical skills in using analytical tools and quantitative and qualitative methods to monitor, research, analyze, prepare, and present written and verbal reports on internal, environmental, and strategic topics. This position includes the following broad range of accountabilities:


Specific Accountabilities

Research & Evaluation

  • Collect and manage data collected from various sources
  • Collaborate with other team members to develop and implement strategies for data collection and analysis
  • Provide quantitative data analysis for use in data-based decision making
  • Use appropriate communication methods to present, explain and discuss results of analysis and trends effectively to drive fact-based decision making at all levels within the Institute
  • Recommend new processes and/or procedures to collect data, identify data issues and discrepancies to improve the accuracy of the data
  • Assist in business plan, business case, grant writing, proposals, and other fundraising initiatives as requested

Required Qualifications and Experience: A diploma or certificate in a related field, such as statistics, data analytics, economics or social sciences is required. Minimum of 1 year of experience in survey design and analysis, preferably in a research or policy environment. Understanding of research methods, including qualitative and qualitative approaches to data collection, management, analysis, and reporting is an asset. Proficient in standard MS Office products (Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook). Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex data in a clear and concise manner. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Knowledge of First Nations cultures and organizations would be an asset. Incumbent must have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation as travel is required.

  • Maintain a safe work environment, and awareness of safety issues.
  • Perform a variety of survey-related tasks such as use and/or maintenance of GPS equipment, ongoing survey data collection, and other duties as directed by the Crew Chief.
  • Building a team environment through high-quality communication skills with trades, staff, and clients.


What you bring to the table:


  • A High School Diploma, and an interest in the Geomatics industry.
  • Post-secondary Geomatics education is an asset.
  • Familiarity with the work of a survey crew.
  • Experience working in outdoor bush conditions as well as industrial construction sites.
  • Certification in First Aid, H2S, CSTS, or equivalent.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License.
  • Ability to provide a passing drug and alcohol test result upon request.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Experience with riding ATV and snowmobiles.
