About the role

As an Employment Consultant, you’ll be responsible for providing solution focused approach to assisting client find and maintain employment. In this role, you will ensure successful outcomes for clients while working to achieve contract deliverables. You will work with an assigned caseload of clients facing multiple barriers to employment and provide a range of supports to clients and their employers for the purpose of ensuring clients maintain their employment. You will work to develop a positive relationship with the client, encouraging, motivating, and supporting the clients to achieve sustainable employment, and increase independence and self-sufficiency as appropriate.

What you’ll do

  • Positively contribute to monthly individual and team Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) while managing a challenging workload through prioritization and effective time management
  • Develop and maintain relationships with community stakeholders as part of generating and managing client referrals
  • Conduct Assessments to understand and document the client's employment-related strengths, needs, abilities, skills, and other relevant employment-related factors
  • Support the development of an individualized Employment Action Plan to support the client’s journey to securing long-term employment
  • Maintain regular face-to-face contact providing pre-employment assistance through vocational advice, job search training, skill development, work preparation and other activities outlined in the Employment Action Plan, supporting a client’s return to employment
  • Support clients with awareness and navigation, including accessing community resources to improve their job readiness, including facilitating and following up on referrals as appropriate
  • Conduct initial employer on-site visits to ensure the best working conditions for our clients
  • Assist the client and/or employer to resolve issues that may impact the client's ability to maintain employment
  • Identify and arrange for any accommodations and supports necessary for the client to continue employment
  • Coordinate and facilitate required training that will support job retention, including on-the-job training
  • Provide services in a manner that is welcoming, safe and professional and ensures that client privacy is protected
Qualifications

What you bring

  • Demonstrated experience in conducting and interpreting client assessments; coaching and mentoring clients; working with individuals with complex barriers and a broad range of cultural backgrounds
  • Knowledge of the local labour market, community resources, government programs, job search techniques, career development and issues relating to unemployment
  • Excellent documentation and report writing skills, as well as in interviews/assessments, professional resume writing, vocational counselling, and individualized goal setting and planning
  • Solid understanding of confidentiality and other professional codes of conduct
  • Ability to work outside business hours, including in shifts and evenings, when required
  • Strong digital literacy, including MS Office suite
  • Employment conditional on obtaining a criminal record check

Preferred:

  • Post-secondary certificate, degree, or diploma in a relevant field (e.g., career or employment development, vocational rehabilitation, social work, psychology, sociology, human services, counselling, education, or human resources management)
  • Experience in effectively and creatively connecting clients to employers based on mutual needs/benefits
  • Certified Career Development Practitioner (CCDP) certification
  • Bilingual (English and French) a strong asset

Job Summary
Under the direction of the Director of Employment Services, this position is responsible for, the training, supervision and co-ordination of designated work units within the Clubhouse vocational program and supporting Clubhouse members on their pre-vocational plan that included the Transitional Employment Program, in line with the mission, objectives and policies of Coast Foundation and the Employment Services Division.

Hours of Work:
Monday to Friday 08:00 - 16:00 hrs
Wed 10:00 - 18:00 (rotating)

Typical Duties

  1. Supporting the Clubhouse members in developing their participation and goal plans for volunteering as a club member.
  2. Maintain the day-to-day operation of the Clubhouse program under the direction of the program manager.
  3. Ensures the implementation of the program including individual vocational action plans and goal setting.
  4. Supports individualized work readiness skills development through club volunteering that lead to employment.
  5. Consults with clients, therapeutic supports to identify the needs and goals of the individual and support while in the program.
  6. Identifying employment barriers and facilitate the placement of clients in a TEP.
  7. Provides support for Supported Employment placements and employer contact.
  8. Leads client skill development through hands on learning for individuals transiting into a TEP placement.
  9. Supervise and maintain safety of the clients on TEP worksite, following Coast safety policies.
  10. Ensure program supplies and equipment are refreshed for clients to perform their TEP placement.
  11. Used formal and informal assessment practises such as motivational interviewing through a PSR approach to develop individual plans and identifying the clients employment interests.
  12. Provides the support and information necessary to help clients build the self – esteem, confidence and decision-making skills while attending an employment placement.
  13. Assists clients to identify and gain access to community supports such as vocational, educational programs and employment opportunities.
  14. Maintain accurate client records and compile statistical records to support program needs and inform ongoing program development and evaluation.
  15. Performs administrative tasks as assigned.
  16. Build and maintain relationships with various community networks including contractors, employers, and clients.
  17. Network and market the program through on going community contacts and mental health service
  18. Positively address all concerns, incidents or crisis, which affect program mandate.
  19. Complete monthly metrics reports along with basic administrative and record keeping duties such as petty cash, mileage, client records.
  20. Fulfills any other functions/duties, as required, to ensure the safe, healthy and production operation of the Clubhouse and the Employment Unit.
  21. May be asked to direct students, peer clients and volunteers.

Required Qualifications

  • Diploma in Community Social Service or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience or other qualifications determined to be reasonable and relevant to the level of work
  • Recent, related experience in employment/vocational counselling & mental health of two years.
  • Class 5 driver's license and access to a vehicle.
  • Ability to provide/obtain the following upon hire
    • Certificates in First Aid + CPR, WHMIS and FoodSafe
    • Ministry of Justice Criminal Record Clearance

Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Ability to work with people with a mental illness.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.

The Employment Resource Advisor / Junior Employment Consultant provides all Clients with a consistent, professional and welcoming environment to support them in achieving sustainable employment. The Employment Specialist is responsible for delivering a holistic approach to employment services, guiding job seekers through the full continuum of counselling, assessments, case management, and employment engagement. This role is focused on providing wrap-around support, addressing the individual needs of clients to help them succeed both in finding and retaining meaningful employment. The Employment Specialist acts as a guide, connecting clients to the necessary resources, tools, and support systems required for long-term success.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive needs assessments to identify barriers and develop tailored action plans for each client
  • Administer and interpret assessments that measure employability and educational readiness, providing feedback and recommendations.
  • Provide personalized coaching in skills that support successful employment, particularly though not limited to: employment readiness, motivation, job search strategies, resume building, interview techniques, and job placement.
  • Support clients through the preparation of job search tools and skills development, including resume reviews, interview coaching, and mock interviews.
  • Offer appropriate referrals to external agencies and resources as needed. Provides appropriate referrals to outside agencies as required.
  • Maintain regular contact with clients to monitor progress and provide support, adjusting strategies as necessary.
  • Works in partnership with community partners including Ontario Works, to provide collaborative services. Conduct case conferences as needed.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree/diploma in a related field (e.g., Social Services, personnel management, Human Resources) or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 1 to 3 years of experience in employment counselling, recruitment, training, and/or human resource management.
  • Proficiency in both official languages is required
  • Must have a class G license, access to a reliable insured vehicle and have a good driving record

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in working with marginalized populations and understanding of diverse community needs.
  • Certification in Employment Coaching, Human Resources, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with local labor markets and knowledge of employment services and supports available in the community.
  • Strong technical skills and experience with case management software and statistical data tracking.

Our Employment Services program, funded by the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development, empowers individuals to achieve sustainable employment through a comprehensive range of supports, from career planning to job placement and retention.


Position Summary

The Employment/Employer Advisor plays a key role in delivering client-centered services within this performance-based program. This role combines employment counselling, job development, advocacy, assessment, and case management to support clients in entering or re-entering the labour market.

Services are delivered through in-office, community-based, and itinerant models, ensuring accessibility for all participants, and are provided in alignment with agency and funding standards.

Key functions include conducting intake interviews and assessments, developing individualized employment and training goals, and providing targeted interventions such as intensive life stability supports where required to promote job readiness and long-term employment success. The Advisor also engages in job development activities to connect participants with employment opportunities, advocating for clientsparticularly those facing significant barriers to employmentand facilitating successful integration into the labour market.


Key Responsibilities

Client Assessment & Employment Support

  • Conduct personalized one-to-one assessments to identify clients motivation, skills, interests, abilities, and aptitudes using appropriate tools.
  • Provide career counselling, case management, interventions, and referrals to life stabilization supports that align with employment and training goals.
  • Deliver career development services and guidance, including referrals to relevant education and training pathways.
  • Facilitate job search strategies and employment readiness activities tailored to individual client needs.
  • Implement job retention strategies and provide coaching to support employment maintenance and life stability.
  • Plan and deliver employment-related workshops and certification training (e.g., Smart Serve, Basic Food Safety), offering current labour market information and workplace orientation.
  • Provide services at office locations, in the community, or at designated itinerant sites to ensure accessibility and flexibility in service delivery.

Case Management & Documentation

  • Manage a high-volume caseload of clients from diverse backgrounds, maintaining a strong focus on achieving high performance targets set by funders.
  • Conduct regular monitoring and follow-ups to assess progress, promote job retention, and adjust service plans as needed.
  • Maintain timely, complete, and accurate case documentation in compliance with agency procedures and funder standards.
  • Record and track client data and outcomes to support internal evaluation and funder accountability.
  • Monitor and maintain financial client support documentation as required.

Job Development & Community Engagement

  • Build and maintain relationships with employers to secure job opportunities through employer outreach, job matching, job carving, placement, and advocacy for clients.
  • Actively contribute to the promotion and outreach of JHS employment and training programs within the community.
  • Foster and maintain collaborative partnerships with employers, community agencies, and service providers.
  • Make appropriate referrals to community and employment services, ensuring alignment with JHS service standards and values.
  • Support coordination of internal resources and services through effective communication with program staff.
  • Participate in staff meetings, planning sessions, and training activities as required.


Qualifications & Experience

Education & Certifications

  • Post-secondary education in Social Services, Career Development, Human Resources, or a related field.

Experience

  • Experience in employment and general counselling with a strong understanding of pre-employment support strategies, community resources, employment-related legislation, and labour market resources.
  • Proven success working with diverse populations, including youth, newcomers, internationally trained professionals, recipients of OW, EI, and ODSP, the long-term unemployed, and individuals with disabilities.
  • Proficient in case management, goal setting, and motivational interviewing.
  • Experience with EOIS-CaMS and other data management systems is an asset.
  • Valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle may be required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, coupled with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage with clients in a sensitive, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive manner.
  • Proficiency in Windows, Microsoft Office 365, computerized career/job search tools, and online meeting platforms (e.g., Zoomhosting/co-hosting, polls, breakout rooms, annotation mode).
  • Proficiency in social media platforms such as Facebook, X, Instagram, Hootsuite, and Wordpress.
  • Strong self-management and organizational skills for efficient project goal attainment within tight timelines.
  • Ability to work in an environment that requires data collection, meeting deadlines, and achieving high-volume targets.
  • Flexibility and adaptability in supporting team members and service users when and where required.


Working Conditions

  • Fast-paced environment with frequent demands to manage competing priorities.
  • Requires managing a high-volume caseload while maintaining quality service delivery.
  • Travel to community locations and itinerant service sites is required.
  • Interacts with the public, clients, staff, visitors, and staff from other organizations.
  • May be exposed to biological hazards or communicable diseases.
  • Physical activity could include walking, standing, sitting, and lifting.
  • Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and peripherals.
  • Flexible hours, including evenings, as required.
