Job Title: Gas Technician

About the Role:

Responsibilities of a Gas/Maintenance Technician is to service, inspect and repair all boilers installed for clients. Makes recommendations for boiler spare parts. Tests, samples and repairs water, chemical and water treatment equipment. Covers 24 hr. on call on a rotation basis. Offers support by phone and email to customers. Reports to Assistant Manager for all administrative requirements, and Field Supervisor for field work activities.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Travels to customer locations assigned and identifies boiler and water treatment equipment failures/problems. Repairs, services or replaces all items as deemed necessary and appropriate. (uses wrenches, hand tools, combustion analyzers, multimeters, etc.)
  • Performs regular inspections on boilers and water treatment equipment as outlined in the Inspection Report Form. (uses wrenches, hand tools, combustion analyzers, multimeters, etc.)
  • Troubleshoots boiler and water treatment control panel problems and all associated wiring and parts deficiencies and repair or replace anything where necessary. (uses multimeter and simulator)
  • Take water samples from customers Miura steam systems for analysis.
  • Perform basic water treatment testing of the boiler water program and report conditions to clients.
  • Communicates with customers (by phone, email or in person) to solve their complaints.
  • Assesses and identifies all scale and corrosion related problems regarding the boiler.
  • Assesses and evaluates steam and hot water distribution systems such that safe and appropriate recommendations and evaluations can be made.
  • Maintains parts inventory in stock room and in vans. Informs company representative when parts may need to be ordered for warehouse stock.
  • Performs the start up of boilers, water treatment equipment and other equipment for new or retrofit installations and monitors operations to ensure that the Miura equipment working appropriately and that any problems are resolved.
  • Ensure adherence to all COMPANY policies and practices including but not limited to; Health and Safety, HR and any additional that are applicable in your role.
  • Maintain required administrative duties. (time sheets, cyber security, work orders, emails, milage tracking, expenses, quotes, etc.)
  • Responsible for the care and organization of company tools and equipment
  • Countermeasure – Complete countermeasures if required
  • Collecting Customer Information – Visit customers, collect information
  • Business Growth – Recommend replacing parts and promote monitoring equipment, chemical and maintenance contract to achieve Preventative Maintenance
  • Other duties and responsibilities as required.


Requirements:

  • Proven field service experience
  • Technical degree or certification
  • TSSA G1 Gas license for Ontario (Must Have)
  • Ability to troubleshoot, test, and service technical equipment
  • English literacy
  • Ability to work flexible shifts and to adapt to changing work schedules
  • Familiarity with mobile tools and applications
  • Physical Activities — performing physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials.
  • Handling and Moving Objects — Using hands and arms in handling, installing, positioning, and moving materials, and manipulating things.

Position Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled and mobile HVAC Technician to support a portfolio of commercial and mixed-use properties across the Greater Vancouver Area. The ideal candidate will hold a valid 313A Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Systems Mechanic license , along with a Gas Fitter A or B license , and have strong experience maintaining HVAC systems across multiple sites.

This is a mobile field role requiring travel between sites to perform service, maintenance, and emergency response for HVAC and gas systems in a timely and professional manner.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Travel to assigned properties to perform inspection, diagnosis, maintenance, and repair of HVAC and gas-fired systems, including rooftop units, boilers, chillers, split systems, and building controls.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance as scheduled, identifying and correcting potential system issues before failure.
  • Respond to service requests and emergencies promptly, minimizing system downtime and ensuring tenant comfort.
  • Complete all work in compliance with local codes, safety standards, and company policies.
  • Maintain accurate service logs, time records, and documentation using mobile work order systems (CMMS).
  • Liaise with site-based property teams and report findings or recommendations to management.
  • Participate in rotating on-call schedule for after-hours and weekend coverage.
  • Support building audits, energy optimization, and capital planning initiatives across the portfolio.


Qualifications:

  • Valid Ontario 313A HVAC/Refrigeration license .
  • Valid Ontario Gas Fitter 1 or 2 license .
  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in commercial HVAC service and maintenance.
  • Proven ability to work independently in the field and manage multiple service locations.
  • Proficiency in diagnosing HVAC/R and gas equipment issues; ability to interpret wiring diagrams and service manuals.
  • Experience with Building Automation Systems (BAS) and CMMS tools preferred.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and customer service skills.
  • Valid Ontario driver's license with a clean driving record.

Location: Ottawa

Reports To: Facilities Manager / Regional Operations Supervisor

Salary: $110,000 annually

Position Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled and mobile HVAC Technician to support a portfolio of commercial and mixed-use properties across the Greater Ottawa Area. The ideal candidate will hold a valid 313A Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Systems Mechanic license , along with a Gas Fitter A or B license , and have strong experience maintaining HVAC systems across multiple sites.

This is a mobile field role requiring travel between sites to perform service, maintenance, and emergency response for HVAC and gas systems in a timely and professional manner.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Travel to assigned properties to perform inspection, diagnosis, maintenance, and repair of HVAC and gas-fired systems, including rooftop units, boilers, chillers, split systems, and building controls.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance as scheduled, identifying and correcting potential system issues before failure.
  • Respond to service requests and emergencies promptly, minimizing system downtime and ensuring tenant comfort.
  • Complete all work in compliance with local codes, safety standards, and company policies.
  • Maintain accurate service logs, time records, and documentation using mobile work order systems (CMMS).
  • Liaise with site-based property teams and report findings or recommendations to management.
  • Participate in rotating on-call schedule for after-hours and weekend coverage.
  • Support building audits, energy optimization, and capital planning initiatives across the portfolio.


Qualifications:

  • Valid Ontario 313A HVAC/Refrigeration license .
  • Valid Ontario Gas Fitter 1 or 2 license .
  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in commercial HVAC service and maintenance.
  • Proven ability to work independently in the field and manage multiple service locations.
  • Proficiency in diagnosing HVAC/R and gas equipment issues; ability to interpret wiring diagrams and service manuals.
  • Experience with Building Automation Systems (BAS) and CMMS tools preferred.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and customer service skills.
  • Valid Ontario driver's license with a clean driving record.

  • Maintains a close alliance and dialogue with the assigned Sales Account Managers to ensure that all customer needs are properly serviced. Contact with other departments or external contacts to clarify, obtain and furnish information.

Qualifications

Education and Experience: High school diploma or GED plus additional specialized courses or Associates Degree in related field. Customer Service/Sales experience in-house or similar environment with knowledge of departmental function, procedures, terminology and interrelationships preferred. Experience in Salesforce, Industrial Safety commodities and/or, Rental Equipment products and services preferred.

Other Required Skills, Knowledge or Abilities: Excellent PC skills with proficiency in MS Office programs and ability to quickly learn new software such as Salesforce, RentalMan. Comprehensive, specialized knowledge of company services & applications. Proficiency with order entry / customer service applications, word processing, spreadsheet software. Ability to maintain spreadsheets and modify formats in order to complete assignments.

Effective problem solving and interpersonal skills needed in order to effectively communicate and resolve customer issues.

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.

Specific Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs maintenance, repair, cleaning and sensor change-outs on various types of equipment which may include fixed and portable gas monitoring systems, Returns monitoring equipment to active status within established time frame.
  • Performs routine calibration procedures on portable and fixed gas monitors.
  • Completes all documentation associated with service in a timely and accurate manner and obtains signature from customer if necessary so that proper invoicing and documentation can be provided to customer. This includes all inspection and repair documents, job cost billable expenses and time sheets.
  • Maintains work area and other areas in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Learns to conduct detailed visual inspections and system functional tests of various systems and equipment for the purpose of reporting any deficiencies and corrective action recommendations to customer. Learns to assess the repair needed and to quote the customer price and delivery for repair or replacement.
  • Assists others in facility including stocking shelves with clean, tested and ready to use equipment and pulling, staging and loading customer orders onto trucks for delivery. Maintains work area and other areas in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Performs additional duties after training

Qualifications

Education: High School diploma or GED. Associates degree, technical or military training strongly preferred.

Experience: At least one (1) year of field experience in fire protection, petrochemical, oil refinery or related industry.

Required Licenses or Specific Training: Must have a valid driver’s license from province of residence and valid proof of vehicle insurance. Must possess good driving record and be insurable for Total Safety vehicle insurance while driving company truck. Forklift experience preferred. Must be willing travel to customers site and available for travel for short and long-term out-of-town and/or offshore projects.

Other Required Skills, Knowledge or Abilities: Demonstrated ability to operate electronic safety equipment and understand production platform shutdowns performed through fire and gas detection systems.

Ability to operate and maintain, reassemble and test electronic safety equipment in accordance with manufacturers’ specifications.

Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose assigned equipment problems and take corrective action within policy and procedure limitations.

Knowledge of all regulatory standards pertaining to assigned responsibilities; i.e., Province and OH&S regulations, etc.

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Proficiency in the care and use of all site specific, facility and customer required Personal Protection Equipment (PPE). Trained in Respiratory Protection and fully certified to wear respiratory breathing equipment (Fit Tested).

Must demonstrate ability to work in a team environment and willingness to assume additional or new responsibilities readily.

Interpersonal Communications: Ability to read, write and comprehend English (operational, process, safety and quality instructions.) Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Second language is a plus. Ability to speak effectively after groups of customers or employees of organization preferred. Contacts with immediate associates and immediate supervisor for instructions, training and guidance. Daily customer contact.
