We are currently searching for a Senior Geologist to join our Calgary office. The Exploration Geologist will act as a prospect generator and administrator in specified land base areas, to support exploration project delivery objectives – with a focus on driving approval, planning and execution activities through to completion for the Llanos Basin team.
What you will do:
- Conduct detailed analogue field and data analyses and comparisons to better understand reservoir geology, characteristics and limitations.

Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct geological mapping, prospecting, and trenching activities

How do you fit in?
The Exploration Geologist will act as a prospect generator and administrator in specified land base areas, to support exploration project delivery objectives – with a focus on driving approval, planning and execution activities through to completion for the Llanos Basin team.
What you will do:
- Conduct detailed analogue field and data analyses and comparisons to better understand reservoir geology, characteristics and limitations.
- Correlate and integrate various data types (e.g. well, production, water/fluid) to build and enhance geologic models, in order to illustrate and evaluate subsurface geology and reservoir properties.
- Generate exploration prospect recommendations from determined land base, identify plays and exploration drilling targets, and conceptualize exploration/development plans.
- Create and deliver presentations to management to propose exploration prospects and plans, review risk assessments, cost estimates and economic feasibility, and obtain approvals for priority project implementation.
- Provide planning and geo-steering support to optimize exploration drilling operations, and utilize data outputs to monitor and assess production and reservoir performance.
- Collaborate to ensure successful exploration project management and delivery, with focus on Health, Safety, Environment (HSE), scope, schedule, budget, and QA/QC due diligence.
- Contribute and share ideas and learnings with a multi-disciplinary team.
What you must have/be:
- Minimum of Bachelor of Science in Geology, Geoscience, or Geological Engineering.
- At least 7 to 10 years of progressive technical oil and gas experience within an exploration and production company; candidates with higher experience levels will also be considered.
- Previous experience in conventional reservoirs is preferred.
- Previous international exploration and development experience is an asset.
- Proficiency in data analysis and interpretation, and a proven track record in detailed geological appraisal of exploration prospects.
- Background with industry-standard geological software (e.g. Petrel, Kingdom).
- Strong communication and presentation skills.
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and problem solving abilities for effective collaboration with office and field staff.
- Spanish written and verbal language skills are an asset.
- High attention to detail with a focus on accuracy and efficiency.
- Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team environment.
- Highly motivated and action-oriented, with proven aptitude to effectively manage multiple tasks and changing priorities, often under pressure and within time constraints.
Where you’ll be working:
This position is located in our Corporate Headquarters at 2700 Eighth Ave Place, West Tower in Calgary, Alberta T2P 1G1, Canada.
Parex has an in-office work schedule Monday to Thursday (in support of fostering team integration and cross-functional collaboration), with the option to work remotely from home on Friday.
