Who You Are

Mikisew is currently seeking a dedicated and compassionate Director, Technical Services. Reporting to the COO, the Director Technical Services will be responsible for the direction, planning, coordination, and supervision of the Technical Services department. The Department leads programs and activities related to the Mikisew Cree First Nation's housing initiatives municipal operations, preventative maintenance, corrective maintenance, major and minor capital improvements of streets and parking services, transmission of potable water, safe removal of sewage, engineering services and the proper developments of reserve infrastructure and services. Working within the general objectives and directions from the Chief and Council, the Director is expected to play a major role in developing specific objectives and plans, providing direction, accomplishing expectations efficiently and effectively and evaluating the department's operation.



This position is based in Fort Chipewyan, AB



Roles & Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement annual departmental and staff work plans (financial, equipment, material, and human resources) to accomplish department and program service levels (through budgeting) and to monitor and be accountable for resource utilization according to plan.
  • Responsible for the direction and supervision of all department personnel.
  • Assist the CEO and the Chief and Council in establishing annual goals, budgets, and direction for the department.
  • Ensures there is continuity with other department initiatives that target new reserve infrastructure and services and/or business facilities and services construction.
  • Ensures the positive image of the department with membership.
  • The Director has the authority to make requisitions for capital work, fixed assets and operating expenses within approved budgets, policies, and procedures, to manage staff, to enter into and sign contractual agreements for approved projects on behalf of the department and oversee such projects to ensure a net result.
  • Coordinate the efficient and effective execution of both ongoing Housing and Technical Services responsibilities and specific assigned projects.
  • Liaise with other departments, public groups, and the membership to overcome problems, find solutions and plan and execute improvements.
  • Communicate, operate within, and provide input into the broader priorities, direction, and policy of the MCFN.
  • Establish and maintain general policies and procedures for the operations of the Technical Services department.
  • Responsible for the role of Director of Disaster Services as per the Emergency Operations Plan for the community of Fort Chipewyan.
  • Responsible for Facilities Maintenance and the planning organization of preventative maintenance work.
  • Responsible for managing the budget and submitting update reports and cost estimates as may be required by funding organizations including the federal government.
  • Responsible for the organization, planning, implementation administration and evaluation of the MCFN housing programs.
  • Responsible for multi-year capital plans and projects including the identification, planning, development, preparation and submission of plans and cost estimates. Engaging and selecting consultants to provide architectural and engineering services.
  • Tender call reviews and awarding of Tenders.
  • Monitoring work in progress to ensure compliance with plans and specifications and following up accordingly.
  • Resolve technical problems that arise during construction.
  • Establish and maintain a filing system for capital projects including design drawing as-built drawings, inspection reports, feasibility studies, site plans, project evaluations, computer data etc.
  • Utilize a centralized computer system that incorporates programs for capital project management and to ensure that data is entered correctly, processed and recorded.
  • Other duties as assigned.



Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; post-secondary education in engineering, Public Administration, or related field an asset.
  • Extensive experience dealing with federal and provincial government funding and training agencies and authorities.
  • Proven management and organizational skills.
  • Construction project management skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • High degree of interpersonal and public relation skills.
  • Strong resourcing skills and excellent job costing and forecasting skills.
  • Valid Class 5 Drivers License.
  • Knowledge of First Nation culture and traditions is considered an asset.

Other Requirements

  • Excellent analytical skills and strong attention to detail.
  • Valid class five (5) Drivers Licence.
  • Willingness to submit to an oath of confidentiality.
  • Successful Completion of Criminal Record Check.
  • Willing to work flexible schedule.

Job Title: Technical Services Manager

Reporting directly to Skeena’s General Manager, Eskay Creek, the Technical Services Manager will lead the Technical Services team and will be responsible for all on-site Mine Engineering, Surveying, short and medium term Mine Planning, Production Geology and support for Earthworks, QC and Scheduling. This role will work directly with the Mobile Maintenance, Mine Operations and Construction & Engineering teams to plan all mining activities and ensure the overall mining goals of Eskay Creek are met. This role will also oversee the roll-out and management of Fleet Management system and HPGPS mining equipment.

Responsibilities (including but not limited to):

Team Leadership and Development

  • Lead and manage the technical services team, including mining engineers, geologists, surveyors, mine dispatch, quality control, placement planners and other technical professionals, to ensure high performance, collaboration, and continuous development.
  • Provide training and guidance to contractors that work within the Technical Services department.

  • Act as a designate statutory mine manager from time to time in the General Manager’s absence.

Mining Technology and Systems

  • Lead the implementation and management of Mining Technologies including Fleet Dispatch system, site wireless network and HPGPS Equipment.

Mine Planning and Forecasting

  • Oversee short and medium-term mine planning activities, including preparation of quarterly cost forecasts during the construction period and annual budgets once in operations.

  • Collaborate with corporate technical services team to support long-term mine planning activities, including preparation of life of mine plans.

  • Track compliance with the approved mine plan and ensure deviations are reviewed, approved, and documented appropriately.

  • Utilize advanced modeling software to perform mine planning activities including open pit mine design, production scheduling, and operational performance optimization.

  • Develop and maintain short- and mid-term plans that support selective mining strategies to maximize ore recovery and minimize dilution.

Regulatory and Compliance Oversight

  • Ensure and audit site compliance with HSRC, Permit and EGBC requirements for mine planning, geotechnical requirements and dump planning.

Operational Coordination and Execution

  • Efficiently coordinate all mine, dump, bulk earthworks fills, drill and blast, and other technical planning required to support the Eskay Creek revitalization project.

  • Oversee the successful execution of a detailed grade control and ore handling and stockpiling plan.

  • Act as the on-site key contact for managing all Earthworks engineering, Quality Control and file management.

  • Overall ownership of Skeena site survey team, file management, site survey control and as-built records.

  • Collaborate with Operations and Project Controls to maintain and present daily, weekly and monthly reports to senior leadership.

  • Provide direct technical support, planning and guidance to site operations teams, including troubleshooting complex mining issues, material balance, mass haul and implementing best practices.

Environmental and Geological Management

  • Efficiently coordinate the Eskay Creek ML/ARD program including all sample collection, sample testing, geological modeling, field characterization, and in alignment with all relevant permit conditions.

  • Develop and maintain accurate survey, geological, and geotechnical databases to support decision-making processes. Ensure technical data integrity and governance.

Assay Laboratory Oversight

  • Act as the site leader for the Assay Lab and ensure business priorities are accurately met between different testing requirements.

Performance Monitoring and Cost Control

  • Develop, monitor and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) and budget performance to identify opportunities for process optimization and cost reduction.

Strategic and Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Collaborate with the Skeena Corporate Technical Services and Resource Geology teams to drive long term goals and ensure the overall mine plan is followed.

  • Collaborate with senior leadership to develop and implement technical strategies aligned with business goals, ensuring that technology initiatives support the company's objectives. 

Vendor and Partner Management

  • Evaluate and manage relationships with external vendors, service providers, and technology partners, ensuring cost-effective procurement of IT solutions and services.

The Ideal Candidate
Education / Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering, Geology, or a related field
  • Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC)

  • Mine Supervisor or Shiftboss certification (considered an asset)

Experience / Skills

  • 12+ years of progressive experience in the mining industry, including technical and leadership roles
  • Strong foundation in mine planning, geology, geotechnical engineering, survey, and reconciliation
  • Proven experience leading multi-disciplinary technical teams
  • Background in open-pit operations
  • Proficient in Deswik or similar mine planning software
  • In-depth understanding of mine scheduling, design, and reconciliation processes
  • Knowledgeable in geotechnical monitoring and stability assessments for pit walls and major placement structures
  • Demonstrated experience in selective mining techniques, including ore-waste discrimination with multiple grade bins, dig line optimization with HPGPS systems, and grade control integration to minimize dilution and maximize ore recovery.
  • Solid understanding of regulatory frameworks and technical reporting standards (e.g., NI 43-101)
  • Demonstrated leadership and team development abilities
  • Excellent project management, organizational, and communication skills
  • Strong decision-making and problem-solving capabilities
  • Collaborative approach, with experience working across operations, engineering, and executive teams
  • Experience in remote or fly-in/fly-out (FIFO) environments
  • Familiarity with sustainability practices in mining

Work Location & Conditions

This is a site-based camp job at Eskay Creek Mine site. This position involves working at a remote mine site on a 15 days on/13 days off rotation.

The Eskay Creek Revitalization Project is located within the Coast Mountains of Northwestern British Columbia and Tahltan Territory. Ground transportation will be provided from local communities to the Eskay Creek Site facilities. For those applicants located elsewhere in western Canada, flight transportation from major urban centers will be provided to the Terrace or Smithers airports, from which shuttles will provide transportation to the Eskay Creek Camp facilities. Travel time and expenses are subject to Skeena’s Travel Policy.

There will be exposure to extreme temperatures in all seasons including working outdoors in snow, mud, ice, and water conditions, walking to and from different locations on uneven ground, prolonged periods of standing and physically handling/lifting/moving heavy objects.

Compensation

The expected salary range for this position is CA$160,000- CA$200,000 , in line with the competitive job market for such roles carried out in British Columbia.   • Strategic Collaboration: Work closely with the Services Team, Product Managers, and Marketing to identify market opportunities, provide technical and application support, and develop joint strategies for market penetration.
  • Customer Engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with mill managers, maintenance teams, and engineers to understand their wear challenges and deliver tailored solutions.
  • Business Development: Identify prospects and existing customers’ needs that align with the company’s service capabilities. Develop strategies and messaging for new customer acquisition and existing customer expansion within the pulp and paper industry.
  • Maintain an Opportunity Pipeline: Track all activities within Dynamics CRM to ensure a healthy and transparent opportunity pipeline.
  • Technical Support: Provide technical, design, and product support to customers, addressing wear-related queries and assisting with proposals and quotations.
  • Market Intelligence: Monitor competitor activities and pricing, providing timely feedback to inform strategic decisions and pricing strategies.
  • Business Planning: Develop and implement objectives, strategies, and business plans to achieve growth targets within the pulp and paper sector.
  • Cross-Regional Collaboration: Maintain contact and cooperation with other regions to share best practices and drive continuous improvement in technical and commercial approaches.
  • Performance Accountability: Ensure the achievement of sales volumes, revenue targets, and enhanced gross profit margins for the Wear Services business.
  • Administration:
    • Support the development of a Services Growth Strategic Plan specific to the pulp and paper market.
    • Identify and effectively communicate critical business issues, supporting their resolution.
    • Represent the company at pulp and paper industry events, trade shows, conferences, and training workshops.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • 5–10 years of relevant industrial sales experience in wear services, ideally within Pulp & Paper or related heavy industries

What You Bring

  • 15+ years of experience in environmental consulting in British Columbia, including 5+ years in senior leadership .
  • A bachelor’s or master’s degree in environmental science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • A professional designation (e.g., P.Eng., P.Geo., R.P.Bio.) is required; CSAP designation or business education is a strong asset.
  • Proven expertise in site assessment, remediation, and environmental regulatory frameworks.
  • Exceptional leadership, team building, and communication skills — with a track record of empowering others and leading change.
  • Strong business acumen , including experience in budgeting, forecasting, and strategic planning.

Summary:
Monitor, review, revise, and prepare Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Good Manufacturing
Practices (GMP) Forms, Work Instructions (WIu2019s), technical documents ensuring they reflect current Good Manufacturing Practices, Operationu2019s procedures, and efficient work activities.
Essential Functions:
o Review, revise and prepare SOPs, GMP Forms, and WIu2019s for compliance with current Good
Manufacturing Practices and to reflect current work activities in Operations departments.
o Ensure SOPs, Forms, and WIu2019s for Operations departments are of sufficient detail for
technical content, accuracy, clarity, completeness, and flow.
o In particular, SOPs/Forms/WIu2019s/Technical documents in response to Periodic Reviews,
Deviation Reports (DRs), comments/audits by clients and regulatory agencies, change
controls (CCu2019s), new/modified equipment, facility changes, committee findings, and general
changes in procedures.
o Ensure SOPs/Forms/WIu2019s are regularly reviewed and kept up to date with proper approvals.
u25aa Track status of in-process SOPs, Forms, and WIu2019s training, and other activities.
u25aa Prepare technical documents for validation activities, Periodic Reviews and elemental assessments.
u25aa Support data collection for cleaning validation and other validation programs
u25aa Scan, electronically store, photocopy, distribute, file and archive validation document and manages
offsite document archival
u25aa Assist with the preparation of training materials for SOP training, related training, and SOP
summaries as required.
u25aa Routinely supervise training records of all Technical Operations personnel to ensure they remain
aligned with training curriculums.
u25aa Work closely with Compliance Department to ensure SOPs/Forms/WIu2019s are reviewed and revised
appropriately and training is provided.
u25aa Assist with preparation of metrics, technical projects, data compilation, data verification as required.
u25aa Maintain a safe working environment and report potential hazards.
u25aa Perform alternating or rotating shifts (as required)
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Minimum College/Technical School diploma in Chemistry, Engineering or relevant technical field.
BSc in Chemistry, Engineering or Pharmacy is an asset.
Experience:
Minimum 3 years pharmaceutical experience, preferably in a Manufacturing environment.
Experience with Good Manufacturing Practices and Standard Operating Procedures.
Equivalency:
Equivalent combinations of education, training, and meaningful work experience may be considered.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Strong written and oral communication skills. Detail oriented and organized, with a high degree of accuracy and thoroughness. Good understanding of drug packaging and manufacturing processes. Strong technical writing and oral presentation skills. Ability to recommend improvements relating to pharmaceutical packaging, equipment, processes and systems. Works independently with minimal need for supervision.
Works autonomously under general direction to meet project and team objectives. Established quality, regulatory, and production approach including an appreciation for client service and the contract manufacturing industry. Well experienced in MS Word/Excel/PowerPoint. Proficiency with the English Language.
Standards and Expectations:
Follow all Environmental Health & Safety Policies and Procedures. Work with fellow team members, modelling positive team principles and meet project and departmental objectives. Carry out all duties within strict compliance with Patheon quality systems Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP). Maintain workspace in a clean and orderly fashion. Effectively engage in and carry out to departmental systems to maintain a smooth and efficient workflow (visual management, scheduling systems, etc.). Be client and patient conscious at all times. Understand Key Performance Indicators and strive to improve the performance of the team by identifying areas for system improvements and engage in problem solving. Model positive thinking and is open to change, motivating the team to adapt to shifts in priorities and new ways of working. Proactively identify areas for improvement in the execution of procedures. Communicate risks to timelines in a proactive manner.
Consistently strives to improve skills and knowledge in related field.
Physical Requirements:
Light physical effort and fatigue. Walks, sits or stands for limited periods. May require occasional equipment operation including keyboard equipment. Lifts light items for limited duration. Typically located in a comfortable indoor area. There may be exposure to mild physical discomfort from factors such as dust, fumes or odours, temperature acutes, loud noise, strong drafts, or bright lights. Use of Personal Protective equipment may be required and may include any of the following: safety glasses, safety shoes, lab coat, gloves, hair net, beard cover, safety apron, respirator occasionally.

**Job Overview:**

* Lead effective commercialization of new products through plant trial validations

**The Recipe for Success:**

* Completion of college diploma in Food Science or a related field
* Minimum 5 years experience in a as a Quality Assurance, Product Developer, Baker, or Pastry Chef
* Previous experience working within the Food Manufacturing industry
* Good understanding of GMP, HACCP, GFSI (BRC, SQF) and Food Allergens
* Strong problem solving and decision-making skills
* Comprehensive understanding of commercial bakery ingredients, production processes and equipment capability
* Have good working knowledge of word, excel, power point and outlook
* Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize task, delegate and follow up
* Ability to lead, work independently, and in a team environment

ABOUT THIS CAREER OPPORTUNITY

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Technical Services Technician - High Voltage to join our technical services team. In this role, you will be responsible for conducting thorough testing of various electrical equipment and relays, ensuring their proper functionality and adherence to industry standards. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in electrical testing, proficiency in diagnostic tools, and a commitment to maintaining the reliability and efficiency of our technical systems in the Greater Toronto Area and throughout Ontario.

Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Perform comprehensive testing of electrical equipment, including transformers, circuit breakers, switches, and other related components.
  • Troubleshoot and problem solve independently, while seeking advice when necessary.
  • Utilize testing equipment and diagnostic tools to identify and troubleshoot issues promptly.
  • Conduct routine inspections to assess the condition and performance of equipment.
  • Test and calibrate protective relays to ensure they operate within specified parameters.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to develop and implement relay testing plans.
  • Analyze test results and recommend adjustments or replacements as necessary.
  • Conduct diagnostic analysis on electrical systems to identify potential problems and areas for improvement.
  • Interpret test data and collaborate with engineers to develop effective solutions.
  • Develop and follow testing protocols and procedures in compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  • Stay updated on advancements in testing methodologies and implement best practices.
  • Maintain accurate records of all equipment and relay tests, including detailed test procedures and results.
  • Generate comprehensive reports summarizing findings, recommendations, and any necessary corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with maintenance and engineering teams to coordinate equipment testing schedules and priorities.
  • Provide technical support during equipment installations, modifications, and upgrades.
