About the Summer Research Professional Intern Position:

As a summer research professional intern, you have the opportunity to work on complex business problems within a collaborative environment. Summer Research professional interns can expect to work on multiple projects at a time across various practice areas and industries. Responsibilities and work experiences may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Analyzing healthcare data using algorithms and statistical programming in SAS, R, Stata, Python, VBA, and other programs
  • Developing data analyses using statistical methods and analytical tools including econometric estimation of models, survival analysis, and machine learning
  • Analyzing health care data from a variety of sources including administrative claims data, clinical trial data, registries, and medical chart data
  • Conducting a range of health economics analyses such as treatment pattern and outcomes, comparative effectiveness, cost-effectiveness, and budget impact
  • Creating dynamic visualizations to rapidly explore data and models
  • Examining market and industry behavior through targeted research
  • Reviewing and summarizing reports and client documents
  • Participating in meetings with medical experts, clients, and case team members
  • Assisting in the preparation of study reports, manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journal, abstracts and posters for presentation to scientific conferences, and other client deliverables

    Le poste de professionnel(le) de recherche stagiaire (stage d’été) :

    En tant que professionnel(le) de recherche stagiaire, vous aurez l’occasion de travailler sur des problèmes commerciaux complexes dans un environnement collaboratif. Le(la) professionnel(le) de recherche stagiaire travaille en général sur plusieurs projets à la fois, touchant à divers secteurs d’activité de l’entreprise et industries.     The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health is currently seeking a full-time, contract (1-year) Research Analyst to join the Brain, Body, and Perception Research Program. This lab is conducting several clinical neuroscience research studies to understand relationships between brain functioning, brain structure, and behavior, across psychiatric disorders such as Body Dysmorphic Disorder, Anorexia Nervosa, and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder. Reporting to the Research Laboratory Manager, your responsibilities will include: searching electronic research resources; preparing literature reviews; surveys and interviews; setting up data collection procedures; collecting neuroimaging, psychometric, and psychophysical data; data entry; exporting, cleaning, quality control, and preprocessing of data; data analysis; preparing findings for presentations and peer reviewed research papers; and knowledge transfer activities in the community. This role will also include involvement in regulatory submissions including but not limited to initial protocol submissions, protocol amendments, and communication with the Research Ethics Board, liaising with study investigators, assisting in grant submissions, and other administrative duties as assigned. You will support and contribute to a healthy workplace that embraces diversity, encourages teamwork and complies with all applicable regulatory and legislative requirements. This position is located at 250 College Street with some occasional travel to 100 Stokes Street.

    The successful candidate will have a Bachelor's degree with a background in health sciences, life sciences, computer sciences, or engineering, combined with one year of relevant experience.

    • Previous work experience in research is required. Experience with Electronic Data Capture Systems such as REDCap is an asset.
    • You will have proficiency with Microsoft Office, online academic search engines (e.g., PsycINFO, PubMed, MedLine), database software packages
    • You will have experience with Matlab, Python, and/or shell/bash scripting as well as experience conducting basic analyses using statistical packages (e.g. SPSS or R) and data interpretation.
    • Experience with neuroimaging is an asset.
    • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication and organization skills are required.
    • You will possess the ability to effectively handle confidential information and the ability to exercise initiative with good judgment and tact.
    • You will be able to work independently and assume ownership of a research project.
    • The ideal candidate will have the ability to multitask and produce high-quality, accurate work while meeting program deadlines.
    • Experience with knowledge transfer activities is an asset, as is prior presentation and academic writing experience.

    Qualifications
    Education/Experience Required:

    + 5+ years' experience in RWE, HEOR, or related roles within the pharmaceutical industry or consulting, preferably in Canada.
    + Strong knowledge of Canadian healthcare system, HTA processes (CDA, INESSS), and data sources (EMR/EHR, claims data, CIHI, disease registries). The ideal candidate should have expertise in real world evidence, pharmacoeconomic and outcomes research with pertinent experience in the pharmaceutical industry. Experience collaborating with government, academic institutions, data aggregators, disease organizations, is an asset.
    Essential Skills & Abilities:
    + Strong clinical acumen or ability to acquire it quickly, across different therapeutic areas.
    + Effective communication, medical writing, technical, and presentation skills.
    + Strategic thinking, analytical and data interpretation skills to support the development of compelling value propositions addressing public and private payer needs.
    + Strong cross-functional leadership skills and collaborator. Work with field-based Market Access & Government Affairs team, Brand Teams, and global Market Access & HEOR organization to develop strategies and tools to fully leverage value stories with customers.
    + Initiative and Action-driven. Translate RWE & HEOR strategies into actionable and realistic plans to maximize reimbursement opportunities for Abbvie products in a timely manner.
    + Ability to prioritize & project management skills. Ability to manage multiple projects across different therapeutic areas and work well under stress (timelines).
    + High quality standards & rigor; detail oriented.
    + Understanding of public and private drug reimbursement landscape and health technology assessment process and submission requirements in Canada.
    + Understanding of pharmacoeconomic principles / guidelines and methodological developments, as well as experience in development of RWE and economic studies in collaboration with internal (e.g. medical department, global HEOR) and external (e.g. academic, research organizations) experts.
    + Participated in publication process/RWE/data generation projects.
    + Previous experience dealing directly with payers, an asset.
    + Advanced knowledge of English, written and verbal. Advanced knowledge of French an asset.
    + Proficient with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) as well as Outlook.
    + Incumbent is also required to work with databases, such as Payer specific databases (e.g. PharmaStat, RxDynamics, etc.), and clinical trial databases as well as having experience working with Decision modeling (TreeAge) database. Knowledge of Python, R, SAS is an asset

    The Manager Real World Evidence (RWE) and Health Economics & Outcomes Research (HEOR) will serve as the primary HEOR/RWE Subject Matter Expert (SME) and provide scientific and methodological expertise to the market access managers and cross-functional teams. They will drive the development and execution of RWE and HEOR projects to support market access, reimbursement and policy shaping strategies for AbbVie’s portfolio.

    This position reports to the Lead, RWE/HEOR and Pipeline Strategy.

    • Develop and implement Real World Evidence (RWE) and Health Economics & Outcomes Research (HEOR) strategies in partnership with key internal and external stakeholders to demonstrate value and support reimbursement, pricing strategies, clinical guidelines, and health policy decisions related to Abbvie products and therapeutic areas.
    • Develop submissions dossiers for CDA, INESSS and private payers, including the development of budgetary impact analyses and the development/adaptation of economic analyses. This requires to:
      • Liaise with the global market access organization to leverage the global value dossier, market access strategies & payer tools
      • Liaise & collaborate with global health economics organization for the adaptation of economic analyses that support reimbursement strategies and submissions requirements to various payers, in alignment with the Canadian guidelines.
    • Lead the planning and implementation of RWE and HEOR projects, including study design, data analysis, and dissemination of findings.
    • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including Medical Affairs, Market Access, Government Affairs & Policy, Regulatory, and Commercial.
    • Ensure effective communication of RWE and HEOR studies progress and results to relevant audiences (e.g. investigators, brand team, payers, policymakers, etc.).
    • Prepare abstracts/manuscripts  of study results for publication / presentation, as required.
    • Liaise (along with medical personnel when appropriate) with patient/disease registries, consultants, contract research organizations, biostatisticians/epidemiologists, medical experts, health economists on various health economics & outcomes research projects.
    • Build and maintain a network of contacts at Canadian institutions / organizations that collect relevant data for AbbVie RWE/HEOR studies. Build relationships of trust to enable data access and data quality improvement initiatives.
    • Collaborating with clinical research on studies with economic and quality of life endpoints.
    • Leverage AbbVie global RWE expertise and capacity as needed to advance Canadian projects.
    • Playing an active role on Brand Team to identify opportunities to work collaboratively with cross-functional colleagues to deliver on brand objectives.
