Maskwa is looking for a **Civil Engineer** to join our **substation** engineering team in **Calgary** . We offer a dynamic work environment with a highly experienced technical team, where you'll receive guidance, hands-on training, and continuous challenges in all aspects of engineering and design.
**Responsibilities:**
In this role, you'll lead and mentor the substation civil team, review designs for compliance, and collaborate with other disciplines. You'll also prepare key documents like Design Basis Memorandum (DBM), Engineering Design Specification (EDS), cost estimates, material take offs, scopes of work, and create design packages. We'll rely on you to promote safety in all design work.
Your responsibilities will include preparing Issued for Construction (IFC) drawings, writing construction scopes of work, and providing engineering support during construction phases. You'll oversee the preparation of As-Built drawings and project close-out data, support earthworks, foundation, and structural aspects of substation engineering, and offer technical guidance to design teams.
Tracking project progress, providing weekly updates to senior management, and maintaining in-depth knowledge of client and industry standards are also part of your role. Additionally, you'll conduct quality control reviews, develop new tools and processes, and complete cost estimates for bids. In addition to doing technical work, you'll work closely with clients and maintain excellent relationships.

**Qualifications:**
+ Experience in the utilities industries in civil design of high voltage substation facilities.
+ Minimum of 5 years of work experience.
+ B.Sc. in Civil Engineering and registered as an active member with APEGA.

**Your Key Responsibilities**
Land development is a complex endeavor that requires understanding of multiple engineering, urban planning, landscape architecture and construction disciplines. It involves bringing the best ideas from each discipline and weaving them together to create great communities for our clients and for future residents. The details of the plans and designs must be supported by the local municipalities approving authority and working closely with their representatives is instrumental in the efficient advancement of the design and construction process. + Perform civil design using knowledge of relevant software programs.
+ Complete the civil design for infill, greenfield, and brownfield land development, municipal and public space projects, and/or transportation focused projects in support of our Airports, Transit & Rail, or Ports & Marines teams.
+ Lead small to medium scale projects.
+ Review and prepare civil designs for site grading and site servicing including water distribution, sanitary sewers, storm water management, shallow utilities, and erosion control design.
+ Prepare due diligence reports and land reviews providing knowledge on overall servicing for potential land purchases for our client base.
+ Build and foster relationships with clients, municipal, and provincial approving authorities.
+ Provide mentorship, training, and guidance to junior and design technical staff.
+ Contribute and provide guidance in project coordination meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants, clients, and other various project stakeholders.
+ Complete field reviews as necessary during the construction administration phase of own projects
+ Participate in quality assurance and quality control review on own projects and projects of peers.
+ Assist in the development of new standards and processes for the design team.
+ Contribute to the development of proposals and the development of project scope and fees through a design focused lens.
**Your Capabilities and Credentials**
+ Must have a thorough understanding of land development including site grading, sanitary and storm sewer servicing, water servicing, shallow utility coordination, roadway, lot design, as well as a general understanding of stormwater engineering concepts.
+ Experience in the province of British Columbia is strongly preferred.
+ Understanding of the life cycle of land development projects from the land review stage through to permits, servicing agreements, tender, construction and project close-out.
+ Must be a self-motivated individual possessing strong written and verbal communication skills.
+ Take a solution-oriented approach to solving problems.
+ Participates and collaborates in project team setting and able to engage in creative and critical thought.
+ Experience in a flexible work environment, managing multiple projects, clients and deliverables.

**Education and Experience**

The Ontario First Nations Technical Services Corporation (OFNTSC) is a nonprofit organization that provides technical advisory services, training, and capacity development to First Nations communities in Ontario. By offering a wide range of specialized services and expertise, OFNTSC helps to enhance the quality of life, promote self-sufficiency, and foster economic growth within these communities.
The Civil Engineer position assists and advises First Nations in all areas of civil engineering, including studies, design, construction, and project management. Typical projects include water and wastewater infrastructure, roads, drainage, solid waste, housing and buildings, including schools, as well as project management.
These tasks must be executed in alignment with the culture and values of OFNTSC while maintaining strict confidentiality.
Responsibilities:
- Technical knowledge and experience in the project management, design, and construction of civil/municipal infrastructure projects such as roads, bridges, schools, water and sewage treatment plants, distribution/collection systems, and community buildings.
- Review studies and design drawings for compliance with legislation, codes, standards, best practices, and guidelines, and provide advisory services on issues related to capital infrastructure projects.
- Liaise with and advise Tribal Councils, Large First Nations, and Unaffiliated First Nations regarding existing and proposed projects, both capital and operational, and maintenance.
- Assist First Nations with the federal and provincial funding approval process for minor and major capital projects and operations and maintenance projects.
- Provide project management services through monitoring project status, including budget and schedule, and provide advice to First Nations
- Be aware of and apply current regulations and guidelines relevant to facility design and operation and maintenance, and construction, including health and safety.
- Assist with funding applications and the coordination of work once funding is secure.
- Assist First Nations with retaining consultants in a competitive manner once funding is secured through developing design terms of references and assisting with the design consultant selection process.
- Complete other special projects, as may be assigned, including needs analysis, training course development, and presentations at OFNTSC workshops.
- Review all submissions from consultants and contractors, including consultant proposals, designs, construction quotations, and tenders.
- Assist with Conference and workshop-related activities.
- Act as a Liaison between First Nations and government agencies and assist with obtaining various sources of funding.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors Degree in Engineering (Civil or Structural preferred) and registration with Professional Engineers Ontario is required.
- Minimum of five (5) years of P.Eng experience.
- Project Management and/or public works management experience is considered an asset.
- Willing to travel throughout Ontario, and valid drivers license.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong ability and understanding of computer applications and software, including Microsoft Office.
- Knowledge of First Nations aspirations and culture, and experience with First Nations are considered an asset.
Conditions:
- Some out-of-town traveling is required through the province of Ontario.
- Reliable and insured vehicle and Valid Class G Ontario drivers license.

JOB SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the Project Engineer, the Civil Engineer plays a key role in the management, planning, and execution of maintenance and construction projects related to port infrastructure. The incumbent actively contributes to the long-term sustainability of terminal assets by coordinating interventions with internal and external stakeholders at every stage of a project, from design to implementation.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
- Coordinate and supervise multidisciplinary civil engineering projects, from design through execution
- Ensure the planning, monitoring, and delivery of projects within established budgets, timelines, and quality standards
- Work closely with internal clients to assess needs, propose viable technical solutions, and align intervention priorities
- Prepare tender documents, analyze bids, and participate in the selection of consultants and contractors
- Prepare or oversee technical drawings, cost estimates, and technical validations of the work
- Coordinate on-site work, including mobilization, progress monitoring, quality control, and management of unforeseen issues
- Contribute to the development and updating of the infrastructure maintenance strategy and asset management program
- Produce required technical and administrative reports for project monitoring and tracking
- Ensure compliance with occupational health and safety standards (CNESST/ASP) and current environmental regulations
- Perform any other related duties
REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related field
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in managing multidisciplinary construction or infrastructure projects
- Proficiency in MS Office tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) and MS Project
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license
- Valid ASP Construction card
- Being a member in good standing of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ) or working towards it is a significant asset
- Fluency in French is required; however, advanced English is also essential due to the global nature of the company and the need to interact with clients and international partners, as well as to support or collaborate with English-speaking colleagues and stakeholders

About the Role
An opportunity exists for a qualified Civil Engineer to join our clients growing team in Darwin. The successful candidate will contribute to the planning, delivery, and supervision of water treatment, groundwater remediation, and other civil infrastructure projects across the Northern Territory.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with the design, planning, and delivery of civil engineering works in line with project specifications.
- Conduct site inspections, risk assessments, and technical evaluations to support project feasibility and safety.
- Liaise with clients, contractors, consultants, and regulatory bodies to ensure project compliance and quality.
- Support contract administration, including procurement, cost tracking, and reporting.
- Ensure all works comply with WHS requirements and environmental standards.
- Prepare RFIs, technical reports, and documentation to support project delivery.
- Collaborate with internal teams to meet scheduling and resourcing requirements.
- Participate in quality assurance and continuous improvement activities.
Skills and Experience:
- Tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering (or equivalent).
- Minimum 2 3 years' post-graduate experience in civil/infrastructure projects (experience in water treatment or environmental projects highly regarded).
- Knowledge of Australian building standards, construction practices, and environmental regulations.
- Strong communication and documentation skills.
- Proficiency in MS Project or similar project management tools.
- Current White Card and Australian drivers licence.
- Ability to obtain security clearances, if required.
