Our client is seeking a knowledgeable and proactive HSE Coordinator to join their team. This role is responsible for implementing and maintaining health and safety programs, coordinating training and compliance activities, managing complex disability and workers' compensation claims, and supporting site-level leadership. The HSE Coordinator will serve as the primary contact for health and safety matters and collaborate with multiple departments to ensure regulatory compliance and continuous improvement. The ideal candidate will bring over 5 years of experience in both health & safety and disability claims management, strong knowledge of Canadian legislation, and experience in civil construction environments.
Your success will be defined by your ability to:
- Provide direct HSE support to site leadership and safety committees
- Coordinate training, orientations, and third-party certifications
- Conduct risk assessments and develop safe work procedures
- Lead investigations of incidents, near misses, and injuries
- Support compliance with OHS inspections and audit preparation
- Implement and monitor health and safety programs and reporting tools
- Manage workers' compensation claims across multiple provinces
- Oversee complex cases including psychological injuries and occupational diseases
- Maintain accurate and confidential records and prepare monthly reports
- Deliver training on absence management and claim procedures
- Conduct case audits and recommend process improvements
- Ensure clear communication with stakeholders regarding claim status and return-to-work planning
- Minimum 5 years of experience in disability claims and health & safety roles
- Post-secondary certification in Occupational Health & Safety (preferred)
- Experience in civil construction, especially directional drilling and aerial placement (preferred)
- Strong understanding of Canadian disability laws and workers' compensation regulations
- CRSP, CSO, or NCSO certification (asset)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and claims systems
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to manage high-stress situations with professionalism
- Familiarity with hoisting, rigging, fall protection, and aerial work activities
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel to sites

About the Role
The HSE Coordinator will be responsible for implementing and maintaining a comprehensive health and safety program that aligns with regulatory requirements and company standards. Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement safety programs in compliance with Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Code, CSA standards, and company standards.
- Develop equipment hazard assessments, safe work practices and task procedures.
- Serve as the companys Competent Safety Officer, ensuring compliance with Part 2 of the Alberta OHS Code.
- Lead investigations into incidents and near-misses, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions.
- Oversee lockout/tagout (LOTO), machine guarding, and energy isolation procedures.
- Manage laser safety protocols in accordance with CSA Z386 and ANSI Z136 standards.
- Ensure safe operation and training for forklifts, scissor lifts, and autonomous mobile robots (AMRs).
- Conduct regular safety audits, inspections, and emergency response drills.
- Maintain safety documentation, including SDSs, training records, and inspection logs.
- Liaise with corporate health & safety management
- Deliver safety orientation and ongoing training to all employees and contractors.
Required Skills & Abilities:
- In-depth knowledge of Alberta OHS Act, Regulation, and Code.
- Familiarity with CSA standards related to automation, lasers, and PME.
- Strong communication and leadership skills to influence safety culture.
- Analytical skills for incident investigation and risk mitigation.
- Proficiency in EHS software, Microsoft Office, and safety reporting.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-tech manufacturing environment.
- Diploma or degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Industrial Engineering, or related field.

Site Safety Officer provides safety guidance and support to all levels of management in the understanding, implementation, audit, and review of Cando’s Safety Management Systems. Roles & Responsibilities
- Lead / Assist with the ongoing development, administration, and revision of the company’s safety management system (SMS); ensure materials are accurate, current, and contain site specific information for each user group
- Perform safety audits independently and in conjunction with site managers; use findings to determine learning and implementation gaps and the best allocation of resources to meet SMS requirements
- Coordinate and participate in regulatory initiatives and business enhancements to the SMS and safety processes; liaise with Federal and Provincial regulators as required

Skills, Knowledge, & Abilities
- Post Secondary education (degree or diploma) in health and safety
- Strong understanding of the elements within legislated Safety Management Systems
- Well versed in the principles of occupational health and safety with a thorough understanding of Occupational Health and Safety Regulations in Ontario
- Understanding of Federal and Provincial legislation with respect to railway operations and safety management systems
- Considerable knowledge of modern principles, practices, and techniques for administering and delivering safety programs and investigating workplace incidents
- Comfortable in the field of public speaking and the ability to train personnel

Key Responsibilities

THE OPPORTUNITY
We are seeking a Construction Safety Officer to join our construction team. This role is located on site in Vancouver and reports to the Principal. The Construction Safety Officer will perform a wide variety of duties including but not limited to:
Conducting daily onsite safety inspections as required by the Health & Safety Program. General responsibilities include ensuring contractors and sub-trades remain in compliance by maintaining their safe work practices to comply with WCB requirements and standards, maintaining all safety records at site, responding to on-site emergencies and communicating with management, completing all incident reporting when communication is required by WCB, conducting safety orientations, and helping the company obtain COR Certification.
Maintaining an organized, clean, and efficient multifamily job site, while ensuring compliance with all safety policies and procedures.
Contributing to a culture of continuous improvement by establishing behavioural guidelines, best practices, and a system of accountability.
QUALIFICATIONS
Experience and Education
CSO Certified
5+ Years working as CSO
COR Certified is an Asset
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
High energy with a positive attitude
Well-developed and adaptable communication and problem-solving skills
Ability to prioritize, multi-task, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Demonstrates solid judgement regarding sensitive information
Ability to work in a team environment as well as independently
Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, and Outlook) in an asset
Familiarity with Autocad, MS Project, and SiteMax is an asset
COMPENSATION RANGE
60,000 - 70,000 per year
