Your New Role:

This is an exciting opportunity for a Certified Safety Manager to join a growing and innovative team in the electrical construction industry. The successful candidate will work closely with the Site Superintendent to ensure that all safety policies, procedures, and WorkSafeBC regulations are followed on-site. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about promoting a culture of safety and is ready to take ownership of health and safety practices on a busy construction site.


The Certified Safety Manager will ensure that all workers on-site receive proper orientation and are trained and competent to perform their tasks. They will provide safety and protective equipment to workers as required and enforce all safety rules, regulations, policies, and procedures through direct supervision. Frequent site inspections will be conducted to identify and document any unsafe work practices or conditions, and corrective actions will be taken promptly.


All incidents, accidents, and near-misses must be documented in a timely and accurate manner. The manager will deliver regular safety talks and maintain records in accordance with company policy. They will also recognize and document positive safety performance among workers and ensure compliance with the Prime Contractor’s emergency response plan.


The manager will attend all job site safety committee meetings, post meeting minutes, and submit them along with the monthly safety report. They will ensure that subcontractors actively participate in the site safety committee. Additionally, they will prepare monthly summary reports detailing incidents, first aid statistics, and other relevant safety data for management review. The manager will support the enforcement of the non-compliance policy and assist in addressing safety violations in line with disciplinary procedures. They will also maintain records of all site-specific safe work procedures for both internal teams and subcontractors.


What You'll Need to Succeed:

Candidates must hold a valid CSO or NCSO certification and have a minimum of three years of field safety experience in a construction environment. You must also have valid COR certification, along with a valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle. Previous experience working with WorkBC is a must. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of WorkSafeBC Occupational Health and Safety Regulations. They should be comfortable working with digital safety tools such as iPads and the Salus App. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential, along with a proven ability to lead by example and foster a culture of safety on-site.

Position Summary

As a project-based position based in Prince Rupert, the Safety Coordinator is responsible for providing on-site direction on the company’s Health and Safety programs to ensure compliance with Client, CTNCA, and legislative Health and Safety requirements to achieve the corporate goal of zero incidents.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates and administers an effective health and safety program and provides advice and guidance to the Project Team on Health & Safety issues and topics
  • Understands and applies H&S requirements and processes to project work processes
  • Performs general administrative and recordkeeping functions and procedures including: reviewing sub-contractors’ safety programs; maintaining inventory for all hazardous products, first aid and personal protective equipment used on site; reporting and tracking incidents & near misses, and maintaining and filing confidential information
  • Creates clear and timely “Flash Reports” and participates in detailed, fact-based incident investigations and management
  • Implements client and IDL Health and Safety Programs under the coaching of the H&S Manager
  • Participates in project safety meetings
  • Provides safety material for daily Tool Box meetings and able to lead Tool Box and Safety meetings
  • Engages in the development and enhancement of Safe Work Practices and Job Hazard Assessments
  • Acquires basic knowledge of site safety program, emergency response, fire control systems and personal protective equipment and is able to convey these to project team members & contractors
  • Conducts facility inspections and safety audits on a regular basis to monitor safe work practices and procedures, prepares inspection reports and ensures corrective action is taken when deficiencies are identified
  • Collaborates with the Project Manager and Safety Manager to ensure health and safety programs meet legislative compliance

Qualifications

  • 3+ years’ experience in a full-time Health and Safety role
  • Industrial Construction industry experience is preferred
  • Accreditation as a National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) or Construction Safety Officer (CSO)
  • Related post-secondary Health & Safety degrees, diplomas and certification are an asset
  • Confident in taking take action and able to adhere to timelines
  • Outstanding communication skills and confident interacting with key contacts in verbal, written and electronic form
  • Outstanding verbal, written and electronic communication skills and confidence when interacting with key project and company personnel
  • Able to take action and adhere to strict timelines
  • Cooperative and supportive team player
  • Strong computer expertise including experience with MS Word and Excel

Safety Specialist

Our client is searching for a Safety Specialist to join their team. This role will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining safety programs and policies in alignment with government regulations and company standards. A successful candidate will foster a strong safety culture by providing training, conducting inspections, and leading incident investigations.

Your success will be defined by your ability to:

  • Develop, implement, and maintain safety policies and procedures
  • Conduct regular safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments
  • Lead incident and near miss investigations and provide detailed reports
  • Coordinate and deliver safety training programs for all employees
  • Maintain accurate records of safety incidents, training, and inspections
  • Ensure compliance with Occupational Health and Safety legislation and industry regulations
  • Act as a key point of contact for all safety-related matters within the company
  • Promote a proactive safety culture across all departments
Your strengths include:
  • Post-Secondary education in Occupational Health and Safety or a related field
  • 2+ years of experience in a safety focused role, preferably in manufacturing, construction, or industrial settings
  • Strong knowledge of local and federal OH&S regulations
  • Valid safety certifications such as COR, First Aid, WHIMIS, etc. are an asset
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to lead training sessions and engage with employees at all levels
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Safety Management systems
