Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

- Must have a valid BC driver's license-class 5 as well as a vehicle to travel between multiple sites in the Lower Mainland.
- Gold Seal certification is considered a strong asset.
- Solid knowledge of BC WorkSafe regulations, policies, guidelines, and standards.
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) and/or Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) are considered assets.

Job Overview
Reporting to the Manager, Safety & Security, the Occupational Health & Safety Officer will work collaboratively with Haisla Nation’s leadership and management teams, employees, contractors and WorkSafe BC to resolve health and safety issues and ensure compliance with applicable legislation and regulations. This role is responsible for effectively handling confidential claims management, claims appeals, and coordination of return to work supports. The Occupational Health & Safety Officer will ensure a coordinated, proactive and culturally appropriate approach to disability management and promote a “safety first” workplace culture across all Haisla Nation departments.

Duties & Responsibilities
Occupational Health & Safety Program Management:
- Develop, coordinate and administer the Haisla Nation Occupational Health & Safety program.
- Develop, audit and update Occupational Health & Safety policies and procedures, stay updated on changes in OH&S legislation to ensure organizational compliance.
- Provide expert advice and support to the management, staff and Occupational Health & Safety committees on all health and safety matters.
- Advise on all matters relating to return work and disability management.
- Plan, schedule and deliver safety education and training and arrange for instructors to meet specialized training needs.
- Maintain accurate training records and course feedback.
- Provide guidance and support on all matters relating to WorkSafe BC including claims submissions, appeals and return to work programs.
- Track and analyze accident/injury, disease, and disability related data to identify trends and recommend proactive preventative strategies.
- Coordinate first aid services such as first aid attendants, supplies and the maintenance of records.
- Recommend improvements to accident and incident reporting procedures.
- Coordinate audiometric, noise level and other Occupational Health & Safety testing, where required.
- Act as an employer representative on Occupational Health & Safety committee(s).
- Ensure regular inspections of workplaces are conducted to comply with WorkSafe BC standards.
- Identify potential hazards and unsafe practices and recommend corrective actions and perform job hazard analyses (JHAs) to identify risks associated with specific tasks.
- Ensure equipment is properly maintained and workers follow safety protocols.
- Investigate workplace accidents, injuries, or near-miss incidents to identify root causes.
- Prepare reports detailing the findings and recommendations for preventive measures.
Administrative Duties:
- Maintain confidentiality and ensure the privacy and security of records.
- Ensure compliance with all federal, provincial, and local safety laws and regulations.
- Liaise with regulatory bodies such as WorkSafeBC regarding safety inspections and regulatory issues.
- Coordinate drills and training for emergency situations (e.g., fire, earthquake, evacuation).
- Work within the Occupational Health & Safety department budget.
- Ensure continued focus on the development and maintenance of best practices.
- Perform other tasks within scope of position as required.
Skills & Qualifications
- Post Secondary Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety or related field or equivalent.
- 3 to 5 years of recent related experience.
- Excellent knowledge of Occupational Health & Safety Regulation, Workers’ Compensation Act, and B.C. Human Rights Code.
- Knowledge and experience in accident investigation techniques, claims management workplace inspections and disability management best practices.
- Strong relationship building skills and the ability to work collaboratively across departments.
- Strong planning, organization and time management skills with ability to be self-directed.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to exercise tact, diplomacy, discretion and adherence to confidentiality requirements.

THE OPPORTUNITY
We are seeking a Construction Safety Officer to join our construction team. This role is located on site in Vancouver and reports to the Principal. The Construction Safety Officer will perform a wide variety of duties including but not limited to:
Conducting daily onsite safety inspections as required by the Health & Safety Program. General responsibilities include ensuring contractors and sub-trades remain in compliance by maintaining their safe work practices to comply with WCB requirements and standards, maintaining all safety records at site, responding to on-site emergencies and communicating with management, completing all incident reporting when communication is required by WCB, conducting safety orientations, and helping the company obtain COR Certification.
Maintaining an organized, clean, and efficient multifamily job site, while ensuring compliance with all safety policies and procedures.
Contributing to a culture of continuous improvement by establishing behavioural guidelines, best practices, and a system of accountability.
QUALIFICATIONS
Experience and Education
CSO Certified
5+ Years working as CSO
COR Certified is an Asset
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
High energy with a positive attitude
Well-developed and adaptable communication and problem-solving skills
Ability to prioritize, multi-task, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Demonstrates solid judgement regarding sensitive information
Ability to work in a team environment as well as independently
Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, and Outlook) in an asset
Familiarity with Autocad, MS Project, and SiteMax is an asset
COMPENSATION RANGE
60,000 - 70,000 per year
