Job Responsibilities
Apply the hierarchy of controls to eliminate hazards and reduce risks throughout the facility
Implement and advise on hazard control programs for the plant.
Proactively apply internal and external safety standards to reduce hazards.
Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and promote sustainable practices within the plant.
Stay informed about legislative changes and recommend necessary actions.
Serve as a local subject matter expert, supporting the development and review of Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Conduct safety evaluations, self-audits, and run site safety committees.
Lead instructor-led training for EHS courses.
Maintain positive relationships with regulatory agencies and industry organizations.
Provide hands-on guidance to managers and supervisors regarding incident reporting and investigations to ensure company standards and processes are met.
Review incidents, complete root cause analyses, and drive corrective actions.
Maintain training records and facilitate safety training sessions.
Implement written EHS programs aligned with jurisdictional requirements.
Ensure monthly safety and environmental inspections are completed and recommend improvements.
Provide internal support for workersu2019 compensation cases. Facility safety contact for work comp claims questions, interfaces with insurance adjusters, medical professionals, and injured workers
Manage the plantu2019s budget for health and safety spending
Facilitate new hire safety training during onboarding
Qualifications
Bacheloru2019s degree in occupational health and safety from an accredited university or college.
Minimum of five years of health, safety, and environmental (HSE) experience in manufacturing or construction.
Excellent organizational and analytical skills to establish priorities and work effectively in a team.
Strong communication (written, verbal, presentation) and interpersonal skills.
Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and SharePoint.
Technical writing skills for creating documents aimed at an adult learning audience.
Commitment to health, safety, and the environment.
Familiarity with safety and environmental legislation

- Active member of Magna Safety Group ensuring compliance with WSIB Work well Audit and practices, communication of Best Practices, attends all meetings
- Arranges H&S / Ergonomics Meetings, notifies members, participates as a Joint Health & Safety member, as well as sets up / records meeting minutes / initiates monthly workplace inspections.
- Sets up / ensures completion of Workplace Inspections for all departments.
- Assist in monitoring contracts for employee PPE including uniforms, safety glasses, earplugs etc.
- Arranges / delivers in house Safety / Environment/Ergonomic training.
- Maintains / updates online SDS, providing hard copy for easy access ensuring compliance and accurate purchasing process has been followed

Foster and maintain a health and safety culture across all levels of the organization by developing clear policies, procedures, and processes that are practical and actionable in day-to-day operations.
Drive a cultural transformation in health and safety, balancing compliance with engagement, and ensuring that both elements are embedded within the organization’s operations.
Develop and communicate HSE policies, procedures, and practices through multiple channels (e.g., documents, emails, collateral), ensuring that internal communications are clear and effective across all levels of the organization.
HSE Country Projects, Systems & Programs (20%)
Lead initiatives, programs, and projects aimed at raising awareness and establishing the highest standards of health and safety across all segments and geographies in Canada.
Work in collaboration with NORAM Health and Safety teams to ensure alignment of global, regional, and country-specific HSE communications and strategies.
Promote consistency in safety initiatives and drive continuous improvement across all business operations and environments.
Team Leadership & Management (20%)
Manage, mentor, and develop a high-performing HSE management team to ensure successful deployment and compliance with safety programs.
Align safety support across all segments and ensure the team is equipped to meet organizational safety objectives.
Collaborate with health and safety professionals across the organization to ensure the sharing of best practices and the consistent implementation of safety programs.
Motivate, engage, and inspire the HSE community across the country, driving passion and enthusiasm for safety within the workforce.
What You'll Need to Succeed:
Post-secondary education in HSE or related field, or equivalent experience.
8+ years managing safety programs in medium to large, multi-site environments.
15+ years total experience in Health and Safety management.
Food safety experience is an asset.
8+ years in progressive leadership or management roles in HSE.
CRSP or equivalent certification is an asset.
Certified COR Auditor is an asset.
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
Strong technical writing and communication skills.
In-depth knowledge of multi-provincial Health and Safety regulations.
Proven ability to lead, engage, and influence senior leaders globally.
Strong project management and problem-solving skills.
Proficiency in English required; bilingual (English/French) is an asset.
